I am lucky enough to have been given £1000 for my 40th. My house is paid for (well just getting built)but paid for .My car is ok and i got 2 ATB, the missus has got me a tasty watch ,im at a loss what to buy. I dont want bike parts or upgrades i fancy something that will last for years, I might buy a couple of ounces of gold and keep for when the price goes up. We got some artwork so i’m not after a Banksy or owt ?? any suggestions ?

    Sucks to be you!

I’m a watch addict. I’d buy another watch…something you won’t lose money on, and may even make a bit.

Found a similar thing the other day, unusually for me, I bought a couple of blazers/jackets to wear with jeans for smarter casual occasions when jeans and a shirt is not enough and a suit is overkill. Really struggled to find anything decent that didn’t look cheap and nasty. Finally found what I was looking for in a Jeff Banks shop. Might be woth looking if there’s one near you.

I’ve also found Debenhams to be pretty good for things like this, reasonable (well known) designers, and a more classic range than the more fashion victim retailers.

Edited to Add: Binners beat me to it!! :-)

From the horses mouth as it were.

@Brant – Any news as to when 456 Evo 18″‘s will be back in stock? I want one.

    Cheers

Used them for years for Motorsport parts and have bought a lot of stuff for my push bikes recently and they’ve always been excellent.

16″ for sure. Chuckable fun. I’m 6ft and toying with the idea of an Evo frame and I’d go 18″ without doubt, so 16 for you.

Bought my last MTB frame with the intention of building it up slowly, got impatient looking at it sat in the garage after a couple of weeks, and spanked the credit card on components. I could afford to do it, and just used the credit card to spread the payment.

As long as you can afford it, and have a plan and the ability to pay it back responsibly then you shouldn’t deprive yourself of things you want. Life is very short.

I’m there with a group of 12 from the 31st May to the 4th June. Weather permitting will see Superbikes and Supersports. :D

Will be rooting for GM…it’s got to happen for him soon.

Innertube! It looks fine neatly wrapped around and cable tied at each end.

Unless you’re doing massive tail whips (!), you’ll never see it when you’re on the bike, and it’ll protect your chainstays better than most things.

Once you have received your new contract and are happy with it, I would suggest having a chat with your old Boss advising them that you have received an offer and are considering it.

It is more courteous for one, rather than slapping down your notice and could lead to a counter offer being proposed. Chances are, you are leaving anyway, but do it right and do not burn bridges. Those contacts could serve you well some day.

As someone who has worked in HR and the reruitment industry for 20 years, and as someone who employs people, this is the way forward, and what I would advise. You are essentially giving your current employer the option to try and keep you, which they will appreciate, rather than just telling them you’re off. If you really don’t want to stay, thank them for any counter offer they may make, and proceed with your written notice.

Thanks for all the help folks, Merlin have just relieved me of a few quid but I have a nice set of 2013 Rev Air RLT’s on route. :D

I’ll sell the Sektors when I’ve swapped them over, or if i do find a spring I’ll probably end up building another bike. :)

@Superdan – tried TF, but no Firm springs, and not likely to be any anytime soon :( think X-Firm will be too much.

@Chakaping – It’s an Evil Sovereign hardtail, so for the type of riding I’m going to do, prob don’t need much more.

    Endura Humvee’s.
    Fantastic kit.

    ^^This

Wouldn’t buy anything else..absolutely bombproof, last forever. Thick, strong, triple stitched, good pockets, harder materials in wear areas.

Cheers Steel, there’s no shortage of U-Turn springs around, jut not sure if they’re backwards comaptible. I have spoken to Loco about my issue, and it wasn’t mentioned as an option, so maybe not??

I am hovering over the button on a pair of solo air sektors at the moment…

I will give it some thought, and let you know if I’m interested…don’t want to waste anyones time.

    Thanks again.

If you can’t install a ground anchor, get a big bucket and fill it with concrete. Before it dries bury an old U-Lock (or 2!) in it, so that the ‘U’ sticks out of the concrete, let it dry. Get a bl**dy big chain and chain it through the U-Lock and the bikes. Will make it a right PITA to drag the bikes and the concrete away.

We have the same problem. Although some people do ask you which is nice, but kinda worse, becasue you then can’t say ‘no’, otherwise you look like a tight****.
Then they seem to think they have your ongoing permission, and use it every day, and never buy their own.

I wouldn’t really care if they occasionally pitched in and bought some stuff.

@cbmotorsport – if you were not at fault I would not sign something admitting you were – full stop. If your insurer wishes to settle that is up to them. The insurance industry has created this problem for themselves by not disputing claims.

Agreed, but the papers to sign are for and on behalf of the company I work for, not me as an individual, so if I don’t sign it as a Director, the MD or fleet manager will, so makes no odds.

What would happen if you contacted the police and made a complaint about suspected fraud?

I think I know the answer – SFA as the police would just tell you they weren’t interested.

If you hit your old TV with a hammer to get a new one through your insurance policy then that is fraud pure and simple. If the insurance company found out they would pursue you for it and probably try and prosecute. Yet these whiplash claims which essentially amount to fraud as well go uncontested.

Yes, wrongly claiming loss or damage or theft through your household policy would likely end in prosecution, and rightly so. I guess whiplash is so hard to contest. What happened to people having to prove they had an injury, as opposed to insurance companies having to prove they don’t??

I smacked mine but I don’t suppose that will be a popular choice on here

You’re probably right, but it never did me any harm as the cliche goes, and was only used in extreme circumstances.

If it’s possible and you can reason with him, try to encourage him to make the right decisions himself, rewards work well. If he’s acting up, give him the option to continue to misbehave and get no attention, or behave and get a reward. After a while you may find that simply asking them to make the right decision about his behaviour may have a positive effect.

I did have a number of calls and texts following the accident from people offering to handle my personal injury claim, I told them I was fine it was fraud and to p*** off, and not call me again. I guess I’m just more moral than most.

I just think something needs to be done, and someone needs to be made an example of. They should pursue 1 in 10 or something at least, and make people think twice about it.

the idea of a hobby is sometimes better than having the hobby, plus once i’m happy with my proficiency at something i tend to get bored and want to learn/start something new.

This is very true. I tend to throw myself into something, and lose interest a bit when the challenge goes off. This has been true with most things except MTB’ing and Motorsport.
