    Ordered one, its taken 13 days from dispatch to me getting the card through the door advising I has customs charges to pay – £18.62 in my case. Best to factor this into your costs as well.

    Its still at the post office so cant comment on quality or how it rides yet.

    It does seem a bit OTT to me the level of destruction they have gone for*

    Still I’m going to try to maybe improve on some of the tails in the woods come the spring or summer. Won’t be building any massive wood features mainly due to my lack of wood butcher skills!!!

    *Fully aware that building these type of trail features is illegal on FC land etc etc etc

    Was out at Kingshill/Gairnhill woods at the back of Bieldside/Cults yesterday and noticed the Forestry commission had been at work. Someone had a few ladder drops and nice features in part of the woods which have now either been bulldozered or chain-sawed in half 🙁 I hope it wasn’t anyone’s handy work on here?

    Once the FC have moved on I would be game for attempting to make a more natural trail route as its a decent close location perhaps to a few of us? That is if the FC aren’t clearing it to let Stewart Milne put an estate on it??!!??

    Suspected as much to be honest. Aberdeen never really stands up to the water very well. Has it been raining since 2013??????

    Any recommendations of where is holding up well in Aberdeen with all this water? Nice MTB single track if possible please.

    They are offering 10% off everything so surely no need for a code?

    Always ask “All ok” while passing riders who look down or are repairing.

    Had 2 instances recently, snapped chain (no chain tool!!!) and guy just cycled past me no acknowledgement of my existence. Poor form IMHO. 2nd one, trashed my rear hanger and was pushing on the road and a guy in a car turned around and stopped to ask if i wanted a lift, top bloke 🙂

    My issue njee20 is that you aren’t taking my v-light comment in context. Of course there are lighter wheels out there but for this application, in this material and with a decent stiffness and reliability (I also have a set of Flow EX’s with Hope hubs and these are comparably if not as stiff) 1,560g is v-light. Maybe we should meet in the middle and just call them light 😉

    I would counter your comment and say that a 1,400g wheel set is exceptionally light and you make compromises with that build that most normal people aren’t prepared to make (cost and durability/reliability mainly). Especially if you are riding out in the middle of nowhere doing AM riding and wanting to make best endeavors to ensure you make it home on your bike i.e your build is a borderline XC race/marathon and not AM.

    For njee20 benefit,

    Weights = 1,495 plus 1,612 = 3,109g for full wheelset inc tyres

    therefore 3,109 – (2 x 770) = 1,569 g for wheelset without tyres

    Build weight:
    Rims x 2 = 780g
    Hubs front and back = 323g
    Spokes = 318g
    Nipples = 62g

    Total weight = 1,483g

    Total individual weight is 1,483g not including rim tape, valves and sealant so I would say my numbers are tying up pretty well to be honest. Or am I missing something?

    So you are comparing a Carbon AM rim with a XC aluminium rims weight so you can call another rim not light? Then say they aren’t comparable in application. Bit of a confused message going out there I’d say 😉 There is only 100g difference between them anyway. A fair comparison would be the Arch but then its 950g for a pair but that doesn’t work for your argument does it? Lets please keep this to comparing apples with apples.

    Show me an all mountain carbon build which is lighter and not twice the price and I will buy them. This thread, I believe, is about Carbon rims and in the carbon world these are a very light build. The OP ones he mentions are 1,700g which is over 200g heavier.

    njee20, apologies – I misquoted my own for sale post!!!

    Weight without tyres is actually 1,560g and with tyres its 3,100g. Still v-light.

    I have a set of 26″ New All Mountain light bicycles for sale, built up weight including 2.35″ Hand Dampf is a rather tasty 1,560g. See link below if interested:

    Any updates of these wide/narrow chain rings now we are in the depths of winter?

    The thing is I don’t want to start dicking round with them myself. Plus a service is professionally done and verified with an invoice or really the buyer is just trusting I haven’t opened them up and made a mess of things.

    Next question, what do people think the going rate for a 2nd hand 2013 Fox 34 Talas 160mm kashima with CTD. I’d say it’s in very good condition and is probably 15months old?

    Skindog, where about in Aberdeen did the guy in Alpine bikes mention? I’m always game for hearing about new trails around Aberdeen.

    Quick update on my new version 26″ 33mm wide AM rims. Just returned from a weeks riding in Spain with Ciclo Montana and had zero issues with my rims. Still straight and in great shape. Nice and light and saved me a lot of effort on the ups. If you are thinking about getting these rims then just go for it I say!

    I have to agree with back2basics on his assessment of Glenlivet.
    If you have more than 120mm upfront then you are over biked for these trails. My impression was there is quite a bit of climbing but you never actually felt like you were going downhill, it was all climbing or traversing. What pushed me over the edge was the cycle back to the car park from the “6km of downhill singletrack” it was a very normal uphill single track through the woods which I almost found boring and just wanted to be back at the car asap.

    The trails have been built very well and I think will stand the test of time but overall the designer of these trails has really dropped the ball on this one. In the most mountainous part of the UK he has managed to make it feel like its just one big uphill climb with a bit of traversing to pay you back. Overall disappointing considering the effort that has gone into it.

    I would maybe contemplate doing this trail again if I was on my way to Laggan or up to Nevis Range but never on its own and I live in Aberdeen (1.5hrs away).

    What I would say though though is if I was a family guy with kids then I would love to take the family up here and let them learn the basics and have a fun day out in the hills.

    “Too good to be true, I guess.”

    I know who would have ever expected a good product at a decent price in the bike industry these days.

    Ordered a set of the new AM build rims a few months back. Lead time before despatch was about 2 weeks and then it took another 7-10 days for them to be delivered. Under declared so no nasty tax bill when they arrived, think there was still a £20 admin type fee though. Wheels built up nicely, only been out a few times on them but liking them so far. Overall great experience with Light-bicycles and the communication was good. Would recommend then highly.

    Done this twice with Blurs as well over about 3 years. Did it last time about a year ago. Shipping cost was £65 and I put a slightly lower, but not stupid price, on the shipping info and paid about £110 in taxes etc. what is important to know is the box the bike comes it comes in is under the maximum size that USPS accept and mine went priority international which takes about 6-10 days. So all your brother would have to do is take it down to his local USPS, fill in the customs paperwork and then pay them some dollars. In a little over a week you have your bike, easy!!!

    One thing to note though if you are getting this through the SC sale web site you now need to have a US addressed credit card to pay with.

    Any other questions just let me know.
