Thegeneralist, I’m an ex local now living in Edinburgh. Haven’t ridden up that way in almost 3 years so wanted to see what the new fav trails are. We are there last week in July.

Frogstomp, Lochnagar was also recommended by a knowledgeable friend so that’s also on the list. The day after the bigish ride we hit master blaster and heartbreak ridge 👍

what else a watch will offer that I can really use?
If you want to train in heart rate zones all but the most basic watches will alert you if you are outside your target zone. If you aren’t using the zones what is it you want an HRM to do?

I was meaning I am happy to use my phone to advise of the zone I am in and to track progress etc therefore not sure what else having a watch would add above and beyond what I get from my phone and a HRM?

About £100ish I guess for something decent.

I’m more inclined to do the chest strap paired to my phone to keep it simple as I’m struggling to see what else a watch will offer that I can really use?

Add more sealant and pump it up really hard +/- 50 psi, leave it for a while and every so often rotate the wheel and give it a shake but like everyone has said so far go ride it.
I did have an Ardent TR as well and while it sealed fine enough to begin with after 1.5 days in the Scottish highlands the walls were weeping due to being worn out. Also the bead was trashed completely and it was almost weeping 360deg. I replaced it and won’t buy again, just get a High Roller II and be done with it!

Northwind, thinking of trying to ride the DH red on the monday after the race. Can you remember what sort of time they opened the gondola on the Monday you did this?

Thinking of heading up for the Sunday and then riding the DH red on the Monday. Only concern is it’ll still be mobbed with other riders having the same idea. Anyone any experience of this?

Will be camping in Fort Bill most likely at the “Wild Camp”

Hoping for a bit of decent weather but that brings with its own downside….midgies!!!

postierich, your Saturday ride (4th) was there a lot of road work on that ride? I’m all about the downs so as long as they are good I can live with a bit of road work and some nasty climbing. We are staying at the hostel so ending there works good for us. Are your 1st set of pictures from that ride?

postierich, of what you have ridden what routes would you recommend as you have the most up to date idea of the conditions of the trails? Thanks.

Bruneep, myself and a group of mates are heading there next weekend as well. Will be staying at the hostle Friday to Monday. What routes are you planning? I’ll be in a subaru and riding a Bronson so pop on over if you see us!

Honestly the funniest thread I have read in a while, from start to finish.

Nach, the question is how many dead cats do you get to 250kg???

Its exceptionally easy. There are 2 screws in the phone beside the charger socket. Remove them, remove the screen with the suckers, replace the screen and re-secure the screws. If you are remotely handy with this type of thing then its a doddle! I got a screen off ebay, just went for the most popular one at the best price, job done. Also plenty of vids on YouTube on how to do it.

So those Gustin look good and a crazy number of choices, when they come up. What are they like? Worth the hassle?

In a similar situation. Looking for a weeks riding in the last week of February. Would have gone back to Ciclo but unless they get another booking they won’t be running that week. Will be going on my own so looking for recommendations of places where being Johnny no mates won’t be an issue?

I felt the Zee was a bit on or off to be honest. Very easy to lock up the rear. That was coming from Formula The One and in the Alps. Masses of power but they didn’t really suit me. Changed back to Formula once I got home but have kept them as my back up brake set as they still do an amazing job for the price.

Mine is doing the same but its over 2 years old now, probably drops about 1cm 🙁

Will sending it away for a service fix the problem or is it now going to be permanently like this? I don’t mind if it doesn’t but don’t want to waste time and effort on trying to fix something that isn’t fixable.

I have a set of the Nextie 650B MTB carbon rims and cant fault them really. Also have a set of 26″ Light Bicycle MTB rims and they have the same build quality. Can’t comment on the road side of things but if at least gives you an idea of quality between the 2 companies. I would happily buy from either again.

I came from a Blur LTC2 to the Bronson and can say its a definite evolutionary step but not revolutionary from the Blur. I feel it sits in the middle of the road with its attributes, climbs and descends well and is comfortable for all day riding. It doesn’t truly excel in any area but also doesn’t do anything badly. With the current Enduro specific bikes coming out I’m not sure how it would do against them. It would hold its own but would it be king, doubtful.

I got mine as frame warranty for the Blur but would I put my own hard earned cash down for one, probably not purchased at UK prices but maybe from the US although I would like to see a few of the newer bikes before I decided.

If your using fabric conditioner, when washing your clothes and tea towels, then this can reduce the absorbency of your tea towels, so maybe your misses is onto something 😉 Personally always wash tea towels and other household cleaning products on their own without fabric conditioner. There will still be some fabric conditioner residue left in the machine I bet though.

What bike you riding it on? Hardtail perfect and up to 140mm full susser would be fine. Anything more and you’ll just steam roller it all. Be prepared to crank it a fair bit to keep the speed up as it feels like you are either climbing or traversing, no major downhill type sections I felt.

If I was passing I might pop in again but though it a fine enough blue/red but defo not a red.

Spa, it will rain at some point during the weekend, almost guaranteed. It is a truly amazing old school track though.
Monza, almost guaranteed sunshine for the entire weekend. Another classical old school track but perhaps without excitement of Eau Rouge etc. Although you can jump the fence and get onto the old track with the banking at night.

2 fantastic tracks but I would probably pick Monza because I prefer the sun!

Torihada, jambalaya and mixmaster, thanks for the info. Would normally go guided with TA or TWR but we are travelling Tuesday to Tuesday and they all offer a Saturday to Saturday service. Still we will hire a guide for 1-2 days and use him for the more secret trails. Just wondering what the other more well known trails there are? Also quite fancy a day in Tignes so thats another day gone.

ChrisE – quality troll comment. People go to the Alps to experience things we can’t in the UK.

Unsure of where to go, intially thinking about Les Gets/Morzine but now thinking more Les Arcs as we prefer out on the mountrain riding with bike park/marked trails to complement this. Does this sound like the right move to the Alps hardcore?

Can anyone supply any trail maps in the back country around Les Arcs?
