Decomposing cellulose/plastic mixed with cardboard box and historical and child made ornaments triggering memories of a house you once lived in? Yum!

I have a colleague trying it out as a special. He really seems to enjoy it but acknowledges that if its not for him he doesn’t have to commit. His background is theatre so the unusual hours are actually not much different!

For there to be any actual security benefit you need light to be going in the other direction to illuminate the burglar in action not in silhouette.      lighting from the house out for the benefit of a camera is only going to be of use AFTER the fact.

Parent like an economist/manager with incentives and nudging?    Positive reinforcement always works better.   Let them make some mistakes.

Dont rule out mental health. It’s a massive issue for young people.

Why ban school friends without supervision?  That shows lack of trust?

Youth theatre?   I’m biased but I’ve seen it turn surly weans into focused organised leaders and team members too. The families notice too.

The South City Way in Glasgow is being built Utrecht Style.   It’s not even finished yet and already there is a huge increase in use since July.  Convoys of 10 bikes, every 10 minutes.  2 years ago it would be about half that.    10 years ago it was only a few.

TJ is right.   I discovered that scooters cost more to run than a transit van.

12 miles is electric bike territory and weirdly in winter more comfy than a scooter.

I used to use a 300watt kitchen skirting board fan heater in a Transit to preheat in winter.

My Battery degradation on 5 days a week heavy usage, 330amp hour shimano steps has only become apparent after 3 years.   Even then its only down 20 percent. I reckon it could well last longer  (24-6 mile round trips with tools and panniers)

A New replacement battery for my model is £300 which I’m just about to order.  A MTB would be daft.  get a decent tourer with mudguards.

More than 50% of european imported palm oil is in biofuels to help hit our fossil fuel reduction targets.    If it wasn’t palm oil it would be another type of vegetable oil, and it may well be the most efficient way to produce it.        UK Forest monoculture is slowly becoming more diversified, I reckon developing countries are going through the same process.    It is the developed world that is in control though.  We are irresponsible self righteous hyper-mobile NIMBYS in Skoda octavias living too far away from where we work.  1% of us are taking the piss out of the rest.

None suitable for 4 people under sail.  I think they are an expensive, draggy, compromise.  Like an unrestricted ebike all the disadvantages with none of the benefits!  If the wind drops, they are a hellish row back home.   Unless you tote about an outboard with you.

If you want to actually sail forwards Gull dinghies are lovely wee things.  You could probably get one adult and 2 small kids onboard and even camp if you were adventurous.   older ones going cheap on gumtree and the like.

I’d get some taster lessons at local sailing club and hire something at your destination?

Accounting in wave or quickbooks, does what nick suggests and quickbooks does returns too.

Mortgages are not impossible.   Even me as a sub £20000PA  freelancer could get one.

Public Liability Insurance?  Car Insurance suitable for business?

Have you costed in Training as well?  Faff Time?  Insurance?  Storage?

I have been down this path and nothing beats an Electric Bicycle especially on a budget.

    15 miles is easy.

Govanhill come pretty close too for environmental activism which gets cancelled out if you have to commute for hours.

Germans have a long memory from the days of hyper inflation when between getting paid and getting to the shops the prices had risen.  They also don’t like being in debt and value their privacy.

The COLREGS are often referred to as the rules of the road.

“Driving the boat” can apply, especially in high performance sailing.  You are more likely to “Take the Helm” while cruising.

They need to take a credit card number for confirmation or await a deposit.     All reputable agent sites do that anyway.

Much more useful. Create a bubble around you but don’t be a dick.  Always let someone else get to the accident first.  Applies to all vehicles.

Workies waterproof hi viz Bomber jacket,  Cheap as chips workies waterproof trousers and wellies prepped fireman style are the best and easiest to get on and off.

Dont cycle too fast, and even better with an electric bike.

Ryobi.  Battery can be replaced in the future.   Good for dog hair and large items.  Not so good for micro size dust but you have a decent mains vacuum for that stuff.      My Sister has a battery dyson.  Pretty crap in comparison and well overpriced for the performance.

Are they charging hotel/bed and breakfast or digs style rates?

If its grubby and they are charging £100 a night then moan, if it’s super cheap then you have to assess the overall picture.  It might be that’s all you’ll get at that price.

Most airBNB people are in it for the cash ,unlike me I let my flat for theatre people, and charge bargain basement price for 5 star cleanliness and facilities but know that the flat is not fancy/workshop biased and make no secret to my guests.

Travellers selling stuff.  might be stolen, might not, might be distracting you.   Happens in service stations on motorways quite a lot.   Most likely to result in a bait and switch where you end up with a box of generator parts.

    Please consider mental health aspects.

I had a similar school experience and in retrospect I think I suffered from mild depression at times.   I went to an anti bully meeting once to find two of the main offenders taking part.

Parents  (Teachers!) often pushed me to do stuff, which could be annoying…sometimes it would be great.  Having lots of friends is also not the be all and end all.   Scouts and sailing is where is I found real pals.

Join a Lunchtime club and avoid them.   40 years later stalk them on facebook and see how fat and old they have become.

Read cyclecraft, do some training.  Much more useful than a camera in that you will be unlikely to need one. As with cars the only people that have many near misses are people with cameras.

Easier to reverse and judge distance than a car due to superior mirrors and the tail swing.

No point in parking in cities.    Need to live in a quiet street if parking at home and you dont have a drive.

Keep left hand turns wide and avoid the  street furniture.

A well maintained Henry with a bag is great.    Some folk don’t use the bag then the filter gets wrecked.

A lightweight Oreck with a bag is great.  No mess, no fuss, user serviceable spares,   My folks have one that lasted 30 years, and mind lasted about 20.

got a used one from eBay for £50 and it looks like it will last another 20 easily.

dysons are colourful waste electrical equipment with a huge carbon footprint. They need banned.

Kirkliston?  That’s easy ebike range.  And an off road route all the way to city pretty much.

motorscooter is expensive and a faff.

I had a new scooter once and costs equalled a used pug 206.
