Ah, sorry forgot to mention that. Cable barrel end was snugly in its cradle/trigger.

Hmm, Catch 22 and Moby Dick* are two of my favourite books.

I agree about On The Road – didn’t get far in that one. Also the highly acclaimed Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom – so wet and cheesy. Hi Fidelity? – I just wanted to slap him out of his self pity.

*I’m a bit obsessed with MD. I’ve read it around a dozen times and have several copies, one of which I keep by the bed and read a random chapter every now and again.

Road then up to some local dh trails at Watchwood plantation. Plenty of riders getting in before the mud reappears.

Frosty, solid and grippy – so nice. I put the gravel bike to the test and have been very much enjoying some pumping and jumping, honing my technique.

A bit of XC and a chunk of road to get to local downhill trails for berms and (small) jumps. Such a versatile bike and perfect for my lockdown needs.

I get the feeling that so many Republican senators really want to go that way, the only things stopping them is if Trump runs again (increasingly unlikely) and incurring the wrath of their constituents. Mitch McConnell above all.

The tide seems to be turning away from Trump. The impending split between old school GOP and populist Trumpism can at last give these senators and their voters an alternative that they can see as remaining loyal to their party.

Saying that, if they are not convinced that Trump has turned toxic enough to reach tipping point,  the safer option for GOP Senators (especially any 2024 hopefuls) will be to vote not guilty in the impeachment trial, knowing that the following vote to ban him from running again will easily pass, as it only requires a straight majority.

Thread reminds me of this lovely local community Facebook post:

Former President Donald Trump’s campaign paid more than $2.7 million to individuals and firms that organized the Jan. 6 rally that led to violent rioters storming the U.S. Capitol, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

This seems pretty big news in the context of the impending impeachment trial. Of course there will be denial of any knowledge but it’ll be interesting to see where it is judged that the buck should have stopped. The “I didn’t know that was going on” defence can only take you so far.

Owwwww. Brave soldier. Fast healing vibes. Hope it doesn’t affect your livlihood, and more importantly, your riding, for too long.

Another bank cuts ties with Trump and his businesses, this time a Florida one.

Get the feeling these banks know there is a big evation/laundering investigation coming up and are distancing themselves as much as possible?

    I was thinking you meant

    £1, £2, £4, …

    that would be some saving!

Ha, sorry, I can see how you’d think that. Just did a quick calculation. Week 40 would see £549Billion debited from my account. I’d probably stop at that point

    Plum here.

I have some money in a couple of funds built around certain sectors and it is fine, with instant revaluations when you log in. The fees are pretty much the same as elsewhere.

As above, it can ‘smart save’ but also I’ve signed up to a couple of different methods:

1: it rounds up any transaction to the whole pound and adds that total to savings – around a fiver a week for me.

2 – the 52 week challange: saves £1 on week one, £2 on week 2 etc for fifty two weeks. That’s £1378 at the end. I’m on week 20. You can easily stop any time if your account is straining towards the final weeks.

This may not apply to your watch, but the early coaxial chronograph movement 3313a (approx 2003) had some reported issues with not resetting properly.

Anyone who sends their 3313a watch for an Omega service got their movement upgraded to the more reliable version included in the price.

I inherited a rolex (probably 50 years old). Its only going to be used for special occasions,so the question is does it get damaged by letting it fully ‘discharge’?

I’m no expert, but would have thought that not to be an issue at all. Most collectors will leave their watches not in use fully run down, in fact there are arguments that using a winder box thing can be detrimental in the long term due to parts wearing over time.

I’d rather have springs relaxed and parts not moving, as long as it’s in a decent environment.

OP, It was late last night and I thought you had a chronograph (more expensive to service) hence my previous reply. Reading it again, I think you have a chronometer? In which case the official Omega service price is £450 for a general full service.

    It’s gone up a lot. A service I had done in 2008 was £290, now it’s £630 – that’s service of a mechanical chronograph (non precious metal)

How do they break? Never had that issue. I do dislike the straps getting in the way though. I thought I’d solve it by replacing the Thule straps with flexible Voile ones. Easier to secure the wheel, nice flash of colour on the car, still get in the way!

I went through Shimano and Crank Bros before settling on Time Atac. I love them. They engage easily (although not with as firm a click as Shimano) and there is a good amount of float and some lateral placement adjustment, which means I can easily get into the ideal position.

Surprisingly the grip when unclipped is pretty good (Five Ten Kestrel shoes)

Such a lovely morning. Road and XC to some local DH trails, which I’m pleased to report have been significantly extended with plenty of new features.

Nice to encounter a deer as well as around ten peacocks too.

I have a Sherpa (Mk2) and a Pipedream gravel bike. When you see them side by side, you realise how much longer and slacker the Sherpa is (not words you’ll often hear in relation to a Sherpa) and they feel so different in terms of handling, height, position etc. The Pipedream, although fun off road, makes the Sherpa feel like an Enduro beast.

I do a healthy mixture of road and off road on my gravel bike, i suppose if you’re much more off-road then it might work.

Having moved to a new house and wanting to install a woodburner for occasional weekend use, this puts a spanner in the works.

Looking at alternatives, has anyone used a bioethanol fire?

You may remember when this happened to me at a Morrisons car park. Car insurance paid for the write off. I got a few grand on top of that for whiplash. It was treated the exact same as a small bump. Crazy.

Was there yesterday. The ride out was in virginal crisp snow, but by lunchtime it was quickly melting, with streams of meltwater running down the trails. Looking at the overnight temperatures, you’ll have a choice between lines of jagged ice or sheet ice.

there is no need for them unless you live somewhere with wild animals that pose a threat to your life. in those situations they are very useful

Do you mean dogs in general?

and why are the called trail dogs? do people have specific dogs for a specific use?

According to you, to prevent bear attacks
