What is fantastic though is the debut album by W.H Lung – Incidental Music. If you like 10 minute electronic epics with an 80s sting.

Thanks for that – really enjoying it

Had the Bestwood jump trails all to myself, so I could session the berms/jumps without embarrassment:

First time up at Hemlock trails and there’s some great riding there.

It was an early start, so I’m glad I was awake enough to remember the bike was on the roof!

    It keeps me fit

It keeps me in better shape

    I arrive at work energised

    It saves on fuel

    It prevents pollution

There’s a certain spot where I whizz along on some singletrack, able to see the queue of traffic I would be sitting in

I can hone my MTB skills to an extent

It tunes you into seasonal changes

It’s a good example to my tech-addicted kids

It has inspired at least one colleague to start an occasional bike commute

Just to state the obvious, as well as the boost dropouts, you’ll also need a boost fork.

I’m 6’1″ and the 19″ Sherpa with 35mm stem is perfect for me.

I have one bike, a hardtail, for all duties, and have one set of wheels with MTB tyres (29 x 2.3) and one set with commuting tyres (700c Vittoria Voyagers)

You are right that the 60psi skinny tyres are a hell of a lot faster on tarmac and in general the hardtail works really well.

If you plan to have two sets of wheels for the bike, just make sure that they can swap over while still having the brakes and gears work with minimal adjustment, otherwise it becomes a PITA.

You could also make your way up to Hope Cross (up the Beast, ride that if you can!!) Then right at Hope Cross and down Potato Alley. Rocky and fun.

You can start in the Ladybower area and find your way up a tricky climb (Cutthroat ridge?) To Whinstone Lee Tor. Then after taking in the amazing view, you have a choice of descents; to the left is longer and less technical but flowy, fast and fun. To the right is more technical and steep and a right blast.

Not a very good description, but hopefully helpful.

Anyone know if a 591 is workable with the Evil frame/linkage design?

    (Also Stanton FS frames actually)

They are good socks (I bought a load in the Jan sale) so bought another two pairs then added a jacket for £25

Bugger, just fell into their trap

Lovely spring morning. Pines was busy, so we went off piste a fair bit. Took a tumble hitting a hidden stump coming down a steep bank and my bike landed like this:

I now have a bit of a shiner and a tear in my five tens. Lovely ride overall though.

No gloves!? That’s mental. And probably illegal.

TBH I can’t remember the last time I rode without gloves. Maybe I’ll give it a go tomorrow.

I’ll throw Suunto into the mix. Solidly built and they’ve really sorted out their app capabilities recently. Mine is the Spartan Sport Wrist HR

Latest is a tape measure showing 29inches!

Not that revealing I’m afraid; the same picture also shows 27.5″.

At least we know it won’t be 26″

    Yes, the FS.

I’m guessing that the ST review will be a while, and I’m getting a bit impatient. I thought I’d try here and alsoThe Stanton Owners Group on Facebook, but so far they haven’t yet let me in!

Any feedback from people who have one yet please?

Also, does that small gap between downtube and shock allow for the clamp of a Thule 591?

Out of curiosity, was it nicked from inside house/shed etc: or off the street?

From a shed, according to the text.

Interesting. I test fitted my 26″ wheels in there which have 2.3″ tyres and it looked a bit snug. I’ve got a yari fork.

Fair enough. Fork was Fox 32 RL and tyre was Minion DHF. Turns out I preferred the 29×2.3 anyway so that setup didn’t last long.

My forks are 120mm and non boost, so 650b+ is out and I’m looking at 2.3 tyre max

Ive run 27.5 x 2.8 with no problems on my non boost 120mm 29er forks.

My second winter of R4+ and really liking it. A good bar light. If I was to buy a helmet light it would be more of a spotlight and with integrated battery.

A loop from Great Longstone could be a good one. About 18km and nothing too technical

    great Longstone

Although it may be a bit tame rereading the op

I currently have my Hope R4+ on the front, which has a slow very bright/quite alternating flash.

On the rear, technically it’s five. Tye central light on’throb’ and the straps in a rotating windmill mode.

Same happened at the weekend for me with my Suunto watch. My ride on Sunday hasn’t uploaded to Strava. All subsequent rides have.
It’s a shame, as Sunday’s ride was my daughter’s first time on a red route and she was keen to see the Revive video.

I’ve found Vittoria Voyager Hyper to be great – very low rolling resistance, only one puncture in around 2000 miles and fine on the tamer off road stuff.

I do tend to commute on my MTB tyres in winter though, as I feel safer on frost and slimy leaf matter.

Further to my earlier post where I posted ads on Facebook and Singletrack classifieds at the same time, Singletrack is the clear winner, with a buyer on day one.

MTB Bay on Facebook seems pretty active. I’ve bought and sold stuff on there before pretty easily.

I’ve just put an ad for winter boots on these classifieds and a duplicate on MTB Bay – so will soon see which place shifts them more effectively.

I have two High Roller 2s in the shed 29×2.3 going free if you can collect in Nottingham.

I like my Ikon in the dry, but obviously it has limitations when the weather turns soggy. An Ardent has noticably more grip IME, but HR2 will be a big step up in grip (and rolling resistance, but it’s difficult to get the best of both worlds)

    Two excellent replies, thanks.

I was unaware of relive.cc and have just created a video of the ride in about two minutes. Problem solved.

Also, some good info on Suunto platforms. I hope they will eventually consolidate the best of both worlds.

I suspected that my wrist HR was iffy, as there are times where it says 62bpm and I’m gasping at at least 150bpm. Presumably that means that my average and minimum HRs may be a bit optimistically low.

    Thanks again

Nice ride from Hope up Roman Road/Beast etc.

Had a first for me; an MTB burn!
At the end of the ‘Alpine Descent’ from Whinstone Lee Tor, I let my rear disc touch my leg, only for it to scald off a layer of skin! Obviously too heavy on the coward levers

Time Atac pedals, bought having read some recommendations on STW. Just great, and no sore knee like I got with Shimano and Crank Bros.
Paired with the superb Five Ten Kestrel shoes, I’m a happy pedaller at last!

A minor thing – if you like to lean your bike upright against things using the rear tyre method, the MH gets in the way. You can still do it but it bends the MH a bit.
