As per above posters, clamp the top tube ftw

Nice ride in the Peaks today. First proper test of new forks and wheels – very happy!

Strava says I’m the fastest person of the year 😆

For me, if the ride is long enough to need a drink, it also needs a backpack (with water, snacks and emergency bits).

My current frame has bottle mounts, but I’ve never used them.

Superstar nano x for me. Superb grip, and pins/bushes/bearings all replaceable. Only after years of abuse will some pin threads on the pedals get knackered and I’ll eventually get more of the same.

Probably obvious but just checking – have you tried adjusting the middle clamping part so that it sits further back (allen bolts underneath) so that it situates the bike further back on the rack?

Five Ten is the most popular, and for good reason.

I’ve also had Ion Raid shoes which actually lasted longer than the five tens, albiet with less grip and a stiffer sole.

Also, new kids on the block Ride Concepts would be worth a look.

    @bluearsedfly

Pre Adidas Five tens I’m a 44, but the newer ones 44 was too small (hence returning them and getting the Vaudes instead)

I haven’t ridden with the Vaudes yet, but the 45 (with some medium thickness socks) have plenty of toe room, but no unwanted movement.

Poc Tectal works fine. Nice big central vent.

Feeling queasy at the off-centre suggestion above.

Normally size 44/9.5 but got the 45 and they are a perfect fit.

Maybe have a look to see if stem is short enough and fork offset long enough.

In my 30s I made the leap from back office manager in a City investment bank to retrain as a cabinet maker. Better on every level. Except money. Still no regrets though.

Parnis looks good. I like that stealth bezel look, epitomised by the (somewhat pricier) Rolex Yachtmaster 42

Unfortunately I’m not available, but love the idea of a rideable (under my own steam) trail up to Hope Cross. Also it opens up possibilities for my kids; we could cycle up Roman Rd together then take separate trails down to the bottom.

Big gratitude to all you diggers!

If you don’t ask .. (but don’t take the piss)

I’ve started making offers of modest reductions. Two rejections and a tenner off some used Haglöfs snowboarding trousers so far.

My sister has been going for a “dook” in the sea in north Aberdeenshire daily for the best part of a year.  Says it has been the best thing ever physically and socially.

Just remembered, the stitching came undone on three of the four Slayer pads so I had to break out the needle to botch a repair. Fine since then

I bought Large in both knees and elbows but the Elbow ones were too tight so I swapped for XL.

Both have stayed pretty much the same for a year now. So no, they haven’t loosened up to any significant degree.

Superb pads though, so much so that I never wear my Ixis Flow knee pads, the current pad-du-jour

My old Freerider Pros fit at 9.5

My Kestrel Boas fit at 9.5

These Freerider Pros are too small at 9.5.

Should have listened to STW :(

I also thought that your ‘I didn’t give offence’ was oddly phrased. Words came out of your mouth which offended someone, so you did whether you wanted to or not.

Maybe ‘no offence was intended’ would be more diplomatic if/when you’re summoned for a chat.

Anyway, best of luck. I can see both sides but it really shouldn’t become a big thing if both parties just acknowledge the other’s perspective and move on.

Regarding compensation, if you’re thinking that it may be owed as it could have been a fatal incident, I’m afraid that doesn’t count for much.

STW may or may not remember my thread from last year where I missed death by about two inches due to negligence on the part of a supermarket. I’ve learned that near misses count for nothing unless you can proove a resulting trauma (thankfully it turns out I’m quite resilient on that front).

Unless officially traumatised, you only get money for actual injury and out of pocket expenses.

I invested in a plus setup, convinced by what I’d read that it would be the best ride ever (2.8 Minions)

There were some good traits; cushy and forgiving over rocks and roots, and confident cornering.

However, maybe it’s just me but I couldn’t find ideal tyre pressures* to suit all terrain. My riding involves a fair bit of covering non-technical terrain in order to get to the technical stuff, and the higher rolling resistance, lack of accelleration and more ‘muted’ ride far outweighed any gains for me.

Strava confirms that me on 29×2.3 is always faster than me on 27.5×2.8, and returning to 29″ also felt more fun and poppy, so the plus setup got sold pretty sharpish.

    * I’m a simple soul who likes to set and forget. Agonizing over perfect pressures on a trial and error basis is not in my nature. Maybe that was my downfall.

Back when the only starter options were corn on the cob, prawn cocktail or a glass of orange juice on a doily, I opted for the corn on the cob. I ate the corn, then I ate the cob (I was around 8 years old)

I Couldn’t get on with Speedos for fit, so got some Swedish style goggles, Socket Rockets. Micro adjustable so a great fit

My only universal issue is fogging, even with anti fog goggles after several swims

@nicko74 I have a well used, but functional and solid Seamaster clasp, micro adjustments etc. if you need it. I’m out of the country at the moment, but can check suitability etc when I get back.

Currently admiring the Rolex specimens available here 😂

Is it the “2” that’s the new improved version?

Cheap originals in the link for those with tiny feet.

If it helps anyone, by the time I managed to squeeze my 9.5 Five Tens into the XL size, I was too exhausted to cycle.
