You need more ‘bits’ though – too many empty shelves…

Conversley, with Direct Line myself and they offered a 320d to replace my ageing Mondeo having been rear ended by a drunk driver. I specifically raised the question with them about the scam above and they said no problem, no one’s going to court! They have their own ‘internal’ legal services and repair operations. All arranged via Sixt and I never had a single problem with it.

Some policies specifically mention a small class of replacement car, some like for like.

We had exactly the same – our insurance had a ‘deal’ with Enterprise. Enterprise took the OH through paperwork with the “Oh your car is a 4×4 then you’ll want similar I guess?”. Paperwork not read, just sign here and here etc…told her she was entitled to this.

Charged a Korean 4×4 out at vastly inflated cost having just got the OH to sign that she has to go to court and defend the cost should the other party’s insurers demand it.

They did dispute of course – Calls and letters started arriving from our insurers, stress mounting up..OH told insurers to do one as no way was she going to court. Our insurers settled for the ‘regular’ price of the daily hire for that type of car the next day!

Never been near Enterprise since. Its a scam, same as many other parts of the car insurance industry.

Same stuff as otherjonv up there was mentioning.

nickjb – its more the latter in that we have the content, just needs someone to make it pretty!

From what most of you guys are saying – do companies no longer use PPT for presentations – have we been left behind?! If it were done in Adobe, I assume it could still be used as a presentation but would we need expensive software internally to be able to do that and perhaps modify the files?

    Ok, thought I’d report back!

Had a great day of it, managed the Leo sayer bit, albeit keeping to the weaker beers! Beagle, wondered why you were recommending a cricket session but get it now! next time!

The Castle was a dissappointment, only 5 draught beers now and three of them were Robinsons! Gullivers opposite was one to forget! The Angel had some great beers, spoiled only by the fat lass ecigging the place into a fog! Marble Arch beers were as good as ever. We ‘stumbled’ across the Wheatsheaf in the NQ, the pub that time forgot…

Gutted that we missed the Union tap room but enough others that we missed to warrant a repeat soon! Briton’s, City Arms and Crown and Kettle all worth a visit.

Like the look of the union tap room! Will give that a try.

Sauze d’Oux end of Jan then Saalbach for the Feb HT, looking forward to it!!

Anyone know if there are other decent resorts within say an hours drive of Sauze, we’ll have a car and like to see as many places as possible.

Thanks Hohum – helpful. Battery reviews are the only doubt remaining, lots of negative comments about but also some saying battery rubbish at first but sort of learns to adapt to the user if that makes sense

Halifax does for me – up to £10k worth of bikes anyway. Just been through the same – painful! Buildings and contents, 10k of bikes incl accidental damage, few other specified items, plus legal cover for £420. Excess is high at £350

Handset prices are 415 for the Oppo and I think 539 for the Pixel.

Don’t tend to game on the phone so not worried so much about that aspect. To be honest I’d never heard of Oppo before I saw them in John Lewis the other day. Same company as OnePlus apparently.

Will check out the Pixel 6 to see what that’s all about!

Neff 20 year old stuff – only replaced because it was looking tired and ‘unfashionable’ – too much so for the new kitchen.

Replaced with ‘new’ Neff, ovens fine if your taste includes logos falling off straight away and hugely expensive warming drawers failing. Dishwasher is absolute junk – looks pretty with its timer projected onto the floor but has unique feature of not washing stuff very well.

Customer service – great if you want to pay 50% of the purchase price for an engineer to come out. Particularly great if you enjoy being patronised by a passive agressive **** at Neff HQ. NEVER getting a penny of my cash again.

Now this is my fault for going to a well known purveyor of “never look like they do on the posters” burgers and having to q outside.

Staff chatting with elderly couple at front of q and all seemed reassuringly sensible in that they want to carry on wearing masks inside such places and staff also want this to continue. Enter gobshite painter and decorator to the conversation (uninvited) and apparently “no one” will wear a mask after the 19th as Boris says we don’t have to anynore! “He’s got the numbers innit, so he should know”.

I tried explaining that that wasn’t what Boris said but no chance he’s listening – no masks for him anywhere from Monday!! Can I blame the bloke for being thick, probably not. Can I blame the Government, absolutely and all because they chose “irreversible” as their latest slogan.

I fear for my DPD one…turned up, rummaged in the back of the van for 5 minutes and then declared “he was just tidying up” and drove off!!

Its been a long time but there was a really good gravel route thorugh the forests to the east (I think) of the loch. I took the MTB but memory serves that the tracks were pretty wild in places but not technical. Stuff to do en route as well like bird hides that you can access etc. Sorry I can’t give more detail but all I remember was having a really nice day out!

Have you spoken with neighbours? They might be thinking the exact same thing. Share cost of replacement panels…

Thanks all. Some of these options like Direct Line won’t even cover my bikes, I like to cover them for accidental damage and stuff and they are 2k plus. The legal assistance stuff is also shite when you check the small print – I assumed most legal eventualities were included but very limited.

Looks like I’m going to be £500 lighter soon…

Thanks all for the advice! The guard and centre splitter (is this ‘just’ a centre splitter or can it be position where you like on the guard?) seem best for us. No way our guy is staying in the boot without guards!! Hopefully he will get more used to it given time…

Wasn’t sure whether it was safer for the mutt if tied – probably no difference, just wanted to know what others are doing. The TransK9 cages look pretty nice actually although they seem solid sided which might get hot

I think I like the look of the guard and splitter over a crate but do you still tie the mutt to anything or give him free rein to move around? Ours is more likely to stare through the bars whining for hours rather than settle and sleep!

I’d suggest that England line up over achieved against a team due to appear in the Test Final. Lords, partcularly as a first test in a series, doesn’t seem to get England great results at the best of times.

I wouldn’t listen to a word Root says about entertaining – he’s become an ECB robot, can’t remember the last time he said something that someone else had written down for him.

Wouldn’t the host be insured for this type of thing? I’d certainly not ‘let it go’. You don’t have to be a RuleNo1 about it but that’s not a cheap property! You had one night out of four with the services promised, I’d be suggesting a 75% refund (as the host or the guest!).

Not quite sure why people see Air BnB as a special case – its (mostly) people that have second / multiple properties renting them out for profit.

First of mine – maybe a dozen in a fast moving queue. Second, no queue at all. I find the fact that your queue wasn’t moving to be the weirdest part of that – perhaps an incident of some kind inside the venue?

For our last one I used What Car leasing listings on their website – then contacted dealers. Ended up at Volvo and an xc60, test drove, happy, negotiate to find out that local dealer couldn’t match Volvo UK prices for leases! We got there in the end but they had to do some wrangling at their end to confirm the advertised prices from Volvo UK.

The end of lease thing seems less cowboy like now. Previous car was extended on a very flexible basis, down to a named day rather than month and at the same price as original lease agreed. The guy inspecting actually explained that it is usually cheaper to let them repair any damage afterwards (wheels scuffs and the like) and showed the price list (you get it with lease docs). All up front and transparent – also gives detail on what paint work is wear and tear and what needs reparing.

TiRed – apologies, I couldn’t quite understand what your anti-TNF point was.

I’m on Humira (brand name I think rather than drug) – are you saying that the vaccination is less effective for me? I’m no longer taking methotrexate.

    Thanks

We have a similar thing nearby where a golf course was built but the established footpath remained. There are now signs stating quite clearly that walkers have to give priority to golfers “because its a private golf course”.

I find this type of arrogance really irritating, and I play golf! A sign saying beware of golfers fair enough.

I’ve got a new hard tail frame to build up and am seriously tempted to sell my full suss while demand is high. The dilemma is that I will want to replace it at some point and that could be 18 months away!

Is ebay still the best place?

Hot Ice as above, estimate that is 27 years old or therebouts. Simple but still more comfy than modern day packs.

Karrimor S60-82, the pack with the removable side pockets. Bought for a caving trip to Turkey in 1989, bit mouldy now but functions as it should. Bought when Cotswold was called Cotswold Camping in a tiny shop in Reading. They gave me a cardboard 10% card during their opening weekend, still have that as well but I imagine blank faces if I try and present that in their modern guise!
