Update is that Vx has agreed to pay half the cost of the timing chain replacement. Yet to get to the bottom of the auto box problem but fuel rail error code is coming up.

might be tempted with two step version – wouldn’t much fancy climbing at 160mm

br – I can get 33mpg on long runs but my working patterns have changed so its mostly used around town – looking at low 20s!!

There are ‘known’ faults all over this car (with this particular engine) but my local dealer didn’t want to know – there was even a Watchdog tv campaign about certain issues – still denied by Vx. The tensioner is not a service item, the car has been serviced according to the book.

Because of the god awful racket that it is making and numerous examples of it happening to others with the same symptoms…some of which ended up with a pile of nuts and bolts rather than an engine!

Its a 2.2 direct petrol auto. I can live with the awful fuel economy as it doesn’t do many miles anymore, it just keeps falling apart.

the warning light and timing chain issues are different – they can’t fix the warning light because they can’t (or refuse) to run the car in case the chain lets go (new engine time!).

The symptoms that i have for the warning light are shuddering and loss of power during and after kick down on the auto box. Light goes out after re-starting the engine – repeat – repeat etc

I already had problems with the auto box as it got stuck in first every time I went up a really steep hill. Had to use the manual over ride to get out of first – went into Vauxhall twice and because no error codes, they refused to accept that there was a problem.

Searching around and its a ‘common’ fault. Even What Car Used car guide says they can break on this engine! obviously didn’t know that before I bought it.

How do you play these games on a PC? Is there a controller type device or do you use a mouse and keyboard?

Some loving, caring parental responses thus far! How much of an effort do you make in terms of getting her into ‘clubs’ and activities out of school – with other kids rather than just the family?

uhmmm, better look and I have the same label. Mine are coil too and I’m not unhappy with that. Steel steerer though.

Right, mine have arrived. Has a couple of “10s” scribbled on the box but there is an “04” stamped underneath the crown. Guess that’s what year they are…

Yeah, it was the Pike Race. Can’t see any mention of them after 2005! Sold as 2010 forks…will wait for the box to arrive!

devs – what price did you pay if you don’t mind me asking – I seem to be paying 20 quid more than I expected for the Pikes?

These are red, assuming I get them – they went out of stock as soon as I ordered. The blurb says all aftermarket and boxed but I can’t see any pics of them in Google searches for 2010 Pikes.

O2 will unlock your phone free if you are on contract with them. I did it once before and all you do is fill in an online form and they send a text when its done. However, I just got a text saying they can’t do it with my current model – haven’t found out why yet!

kilo – don’t be confused. I apologise, neither incident was, the fact that either could have resulted in a RTA with injury/death to multiple parties is by-the-by.

Thread was about ‘people’ if you care to check, point being that dicks ride bikes as well as drive cars…

The pic makes it look a lot easier than it is IMO, its not desperate by any means but just a little ‘out of context’ for what precedes it. Took me by surprise on my first visit!

Was out in the car with the family yesterday – two roadies came flying out of a side turning without stopping – apparently I was supposed to swerve into the middle of the road to avoid them. Later the same trip on a steep downhill through a village, I stopped to let cars coming the other way through a constriction in the road, not really expecting two mtbers to come hurtling past on my outside causing the cars coming the other way to jam on the anchors…

    Drivers eh?

Allegro – puke colour, front wing held on with gaffer tape and crossed fingers
Xantia – ex works car, loved it despite the rep, flooded road was deeper than I thought, insurance paid out more than it cost me two years previous
Nissan Micra, old style, one hand on the steering wheel the other holding an oil can…
escort estate TD, 160k on the clock when I got it, awful
    Mondeo
    Company Mondeo
Vectra estate, huge boot – very useful for storing the trim as it falls off…

Surely their repairs are guaranteed for 3 months? Whatever they did, didn’t work – I’d at least query it.

I’ll differ – IMO kids get enough exposure to this kind of stuff already. 12 is too young. Blood splattered killings, offensive language and gangster rappa wannabes online. 18 may be on the protective side but not for 12 year olds.

Fair points and it does trouble me to go to man made stuff when in the Lakes but I am constrained to nights as I’ll be with the family. Possibly less chance of getting lost on the NF trail!! Never done the whole thing before either.

Black Combe is noted though as I could ride from the door. I\ll look at the BT website – thanks

Just an update for anyone interested…

I had pretty much given up and was about to buy the xbox when I sent Sony a link to the thread complaining about the issue on their own forum. An about turn later and a new (refurbed) machine has arrived free of charge!

Got an email about that but thought it was later in the month? Bit cheeky asking to upgrade the OS after having bought a year of Mobile Me!!

Not a package but went for a long weekend. Wasn’t much choice of flights in those days so remember landing at silly o’clock. Stayed in a small apartment run by a guy used to people turning up in the small hours! Late rooms I think.

We hired a car and drove to some waterfalls and the Blue Lagoon which I wanted to hate but actually quite enjoyed. Think the general cost of things is lower now than then!

If I went again I’d spend a week and just drive all over the place. Great landscape.

EDIT – just seen the other thread!

Who mentioned inch of its life? There were some great berms and other features that aren’t enjoyable anymore (IMO). I’d say the vast majority of downhill corners have lost their flow. Its the flow that I think made the Monkey stand out as a great fun trail and worth a decent drive to get to. If I were local I’d still be grateful to have it on my doorstep but as I said, not worth a drive anymore.

Was on the Monkey yesterday – brake bumps have ruined most of it now. Inevitable with that level of traffic but I wouldn’t travel again to ride there. Shame as I’m very impressed with the trail and the sheer volume of work those guys put in to build it. Has the money run out now or is there a budget for on-going repairs?

Anyone had experience of MS customer service? Sony let me down (dead console after 18 months – widely thought to be caused by a firmware update from Sony), are MS any better?
