A tenner recorded delivery and return it via courier to their UK office. No longer your problem. Its the least that I’d do if I’d bailed 2 hours into a new job, what ever the reasons for so doing.

Its miminal effort and cost on your part or is there something else to this story that makes you feel aggrieved about the way you have been treated…and perhaps deserve a little “compo”?

The City can be a good place to get a premium hotel at good weekend rates. Also great ‘wandering’ around there without the crowds and South bank is easily accesible

Size of sim was main concern I guess – both current phone and iphone that I want state nano so that bit should be fine I guess.

    Thanks all

I stopped recently in Saalbach to collect a guy’s ski after he wiped out. Picked it up, danced gracefully down to him…then slipped on ice and took him and his three mates out! he did see the funny side as we were all hurtling downhill in a cartoonish bundle of arms and poles.

Foxes cookies, the big ones, the ones that have choc chips and then half covered in more chocolate – otherwise known as this morning’s breakfast, with a pint of milk…

@JonEdwards – I was in Sauze/Sestriere a few weeks back, just about skiable but locals were suggesting even the snow cannons might get switched off because there wasn’t enough water to feed them anymore.
Runs down into Sauze were cannon created strips between green fields. Sestriere was a little better.

Unless there has been significant snowfall in last three weeks (I haven’t checked), I’d chose somewhere else. We drove to 3 Vallees 3 days out of 5 from Sauze, which tells you all you need to know about conditions in MW.

3 families headed to Austria via Munich – all with different opinions on what the entry requirements are!!

Anybody taken this route recently or transited through Germany?

Two kids over 12, both double vaxxed (2nd dose in early Feb). Two adults both boosted.

My view is that we just need entry forms completed and evidence of the above vaccinations – then get our hire car and bugger off to the border. Others are saying PCR tests as the kids don’t have boosters (it asks for full vaccination).

    Any help appreciated

WCAs description of the dole office could have been me many years ago. They are simply not geared up (or remotely clever enough) to deal with professional people. When I explained that I would be opting to start a Masters rather than working at Ladbrokes, the woman looked at me and said “you can’t keep drifting you know”…

Just back from Italy (pretty crap snow and high winds) which included driving to Val Thorens 3 times (amazing piste conditions and really quiet). 3 out of 9 now positive!

stevie750 – thanks! Not what I wanted to hear but useful to know where the best snow is. Did you get up to Sestriere?

Can we start to see a few more photos being posted here from people actually out in the mountains!

I’m a week away now and getting a bit excited.

Still keen to hear from anyone with knowledge of Sauze d’oulx as above…

Anyone know Sauze d’oulx really well?

Looking for tips on ski hire shops and alternative resorts that are driveable.

For the shop we would rather pay a little more and have access to good quality kit than the ‘supermarket’ package holiday rental places.

For the resorts, I’m thinking 2 things: –

    1. Completely out of Milky Way. I know Sestriere etc are there but if the snow is bad in Sauze (it may be looking at the forecast) the links will be slow and busy.
    2. Is it easier to drive to the far reaches of the Milky Way lift system rather than ski from Sauze?

Any other local tips welcome on bars / food etc. We’re headed out end of Jan.

    Thanks

A post like this isusually followed with a mix of people with simialr experiences and others that say witty things like “if they made better products they wouldn’t need such great service”.

I’m in the first camp – great company

Sharps are no different to double glazing salesmen. Hammonds is another option but again they do the same “it should be this but if you sign today” bollox. You need a joiner on a day rate and buy the materials yourself

geomickb – book one more than two hours before your flight as ideally you don’t want to be going through security whilst still awaiting the result. The tests are done in the halls outside. I had mine done at Manchester and the test centre was on the arrivals level. The person conducting the lft said that the drive through option at the airport had been closed because of hugh queues! I got my results in the check in queue but with an lft you pretty much see the results before you leave the tent…

Q: I have VF router and TP mesh. I never put the router into any other mode (modem mode) – will I be losing speed?

Test drove the 2l (I think) petrol auto about 2 years ago. Nice to sit in but horrible to drive with a terrible auto box. Mate has the 2l diesel and likes it.

Let’s use that to SEGWAY into the next part of the meeting! We’re sat on our bloody arses around a sodding table – where are the damn Segways?!!

The use of the word ‘wee’ by any non-Scots. Three year olds needing a pish is OK though.

2021 bottom of the range MBP. Only issue I’ve experienced is seemingly poorer wifi performance than my previous 2015 MBP. No idea why but side by side, the old one manages to connect and maintain stronger wifi signal.

I posted up here about fibre going in our street 2-3 weeks ago. Spoke with engineers today who said they were testing it before it being accepted by (I think they said) Openreach. They reckoned another week or two and it should be live.

Do you have to turn the wifi on your router off? Is there a performance adavantage on the mesh network by doing that?

    OK thanks all.

I can get the LFT (cheaper test) on the way out to save cash.

Pre-book 2 day PCR for return.

Straight from the govt website. *All* travellers vaxxed or not and travelling from any country need a PCR test 48 hours before returning to the UK.

    —-
From 4am on Tuesday 7 December anyone aged 12 and over must show a negative PCR or lateral flow test result before travelling to England from abroad. You must take the test in the 2 days before you travel to England.

Sorry – can’t do quotes! Isn’t the above contradictory? First sentence states PCR. Next sentence says PCR OR LFT?

Sorry – more complicated than I thought.

Flying Manc to Poland via Amsterdam. Amsterdam is just vacc cert – that’s all fine.

    Poland the same.

However, I was under the impression that it was the UK that has decreed that we all need to be PCR tested before we fly out anywhere? Now there are advantages to knowing the result before boarding but wondered if it were compulsory to have negative result before boarding plane? I think it is true that this test (either 3 hour or 48 hour) will suffice as the entry test back into the UK.

I also need to pre-book the day 2 test.

I like her! Seems like a proper human being to me although the recent stories about the aussie journalist and spotify suggest that she ‘might’ be heading up her own rectum a tad. Still rather listen to Metallica but really don’t ger why she irritates people.

Menu bars have been discontinued on these new MBPs, not sure where the equivalent button would be!

Apologies, one more question. We’ve just had fibre cables laid in the street and will switch over when available – will the systems that I have mentioned be OK for this i.e. will they allow me to use the full speed of the new connection? Guessing here – but maybe 300mbs

nealc – that’s a good find thanks! Guess the business park still has low occupancy as it seems to be their generic office spaces. 15 quid for the dates I need! 5 minute longer walk to save £50…

I’m booked for this trip but will try this in December

crazylegs – thought about using Wilmslow long stay car park and training in. Only one direct train an hour and I’d be stuffed if the car park were full when I got there! No pre-booking. I don’t know anywhere well enough to be comfortable leaving in the street. I would have to get a cab back as I don’t land until after 10.30. Do you know if East Didsbury tram car park allows long stay? That would be a future option.

scaled – next year maybe, just took a lease on an industrial unit in Wythenshawe! Tram could be my future.

Funky, I tend to agree but these trips are after many many Zooms! At some point you have to meet people to make progress and in our case, see things working! I am well past the age of finding airports or air travel exciting…

They managed to get it to boot in store – at which time they determined it was the battery. Diagnostics suggested everything else was fine.

And yes, £199 for a battery! It had been ragged for 5.5 years though. Was pushing 1000 cycles on the readout…they suggested that that was a lot.
