I fell for the same story as stumpy01. New to London, van parked up near Embankment tube. Excess from a studio fit out was the line this time! USA hi-fi mag showing them at over $2k a pair. I paid £400

They even drove me home to install them. Worse was I had just spent my first pay cheque on a stereo set-up with nice Mission speakers and I still fell for it. A bit of digging when I came to my senses and all was revealed. These things were rife all over London.

The mistake these guys made was giving me a receipt with a number and address on it! Lots of voicemails left before calling Brixton CID. One final call before I went to the copshop and explained where I was going – phoned picked up straight away.

They hadn’t figured on someone being so bloody minded so I got a full refund, even got the afternoon off work to take them back as my boss was just as angry as I was. The warehouse was out Mitchum way and stacked to the roof with these speakers. About 10 vans parked up as well.

The funny part was the pair of chavs that sold me the speakers turned up whilst I was there. Pointed them out to their ‘boss’ and they denied everything…before out came the receipt! Turns out that they had passed on £200 and trousered the other £200!!

Left to the sound of screaming in the warehouse and some very choice language. Still feel like a pillock though 15 years later…

I would think you’re safe but I would have made a point of mentioning it were I selling it. It may be buyer beware but honesty goes a long way. A simple “you need to be aware of this here fold” would have avoided this…IMO of course.

Duly reported. As no damage, they could not take it further from a Road Traffic Act perspective but did do a check on the plate. Registered to a local business – wouldn’t tell us which!! No outstanding matters of interest to the police.

They said they are happy to get calls like this and it was the right thing to do to report it. They also said her card was marked and if anything else like this happened, the failure to stop had been noted.

And of course “if we subsequently notice any damage then please do get back to us – here is the incident number”.

    Thanks for the responses.

There’s a crossing like this a few yards away from the entrance to our kids’ primary school. The head put a chain across the school car park entrance (just before the zig zags to the crossing start) to stop the lazy arsed parents from blocking up the car park (where two families of wheelchair bound kids need space to unload). Result has been said lazy arsed parents merely parking right across the entrance of the car park stopping anyone from getting in and out.

Last week, a Fiat Panda was parked bang in the middle of the zig zags and when challenged the dozy bint just said “oh, I’m allowed to park here” whilst pointing to a home made “visitor” sign on her dash board!! She did it for three mornings running before collective disapproval made her rethink (she was actually a visitor to the school rather than a parent).

Out of interest, how did they get your bike off you? Did they drag you off it? I assume you were riding rather than pushing or climbing in through a window to ride the Great Hall or such like…?

Exact same issue as the OP 2 or 3 weeks ago. I had snagged my cable quite hard and it obviously hurt the connector. I was glad enough knowing there is somewhere to send them back to pay to get fixed, however, 2 days later and back with new lead and no charge.

I have two Hope lights and will buy more when / if they ever die. I also have a set of Hoops and a set of brakes.

Other experiences in the bike sector: –

Trek – cracked Liquid frame, replaced without argument
Hayes – Part for the bleed kit sent from the US foc, their UK distributor wasn’t interested!!

There seems to me to be a disproportionately high level of customer service in the bike market or perhaps I just read the horror stories and avoid those companies…

I invested £400 in a set of Kumhos this winter, now working out at £133 per day of effective use!! I find them a bit squishy in normal conditions over the normal tyres but it is a nice feeling knowing that you won’t get stuck.

The big problem with winter tyres is however, that few people have them and therefore its very easy to get stuck behind muppets that refuse to accept that normal tyres, snow and hills are not a good combination.

If the tests for EPO were unsophisticated in LA’s days, then chances are the whole peloton was up to no good. He caned the lot of them. He was also on death’s door and riddled with cancer. My hat is off to the guy. His worst crime…Sheryl Crow.

Look at EcoDeck – wood plastic composite material. Forget all that nonsense about yearly maintenance…

What would ‘free’ heroin (not legalised but as a treatment option) give that methodone doesn’t? Is the ‘high’ higher with the real stuff?

Stoner – thanks for those links, was thinking of something like that. My only concern would be paper building up around the valve? May not be an issue – will investigate.

Showerman – converted mill. Many issues with the build and yes the plumbing is all part of the original work. This was ten years ago now though. This was part of the snagging but never got fixed. Developer was a crook and builders got sold. The service charge does not cover stuff inside the flats. We do know who bought the builder out and they do have responsibility but I am guessing that the legal costs / time will be big! Would rather just fix it if a solution is possible.

A question for an actual owner – curiosity led rather than antagonistic…

If your Staffy did have a hissy fit, would you be able to stop him / her if it decided to attack another dog / kid etc? The rhetoric would suggest nothing can be done apart from shooting them – what’s the reality?

Seeing the behaviour of some of those dogs altered my perspective a little on ‘fighting’ breeds, I didn’t realise any of them could be ‘cuddly’!!

Still don’t really get it though – there are plenty of other ‘cuddly’ breeds, why such interest in something that could kill if it’s having a ‘bad moment’ (as Italian football managers like to say). The guilt that the scouse family has to live with was entirely avoidable.

As for the humans on show….

I was there for a few weeks in 1991 – no hint of troubles then. Kathmandu, Pokhara, Annapurna Circuit (part of) and Chitwan. We went just before the trekking ‘season’ started so quite wet and lots of leeches!

Saw about half a dozen other tourists in the mountains. All locals were friendly and helpful although they post some police / ranger types in very odd places – literally jump out from behind a hut or tree and demand to see your trekking permit! Not sure if permits are still required to be in the mountains.

Some ‘interesting’ transport arrangements – they had a safety initiative with the buses meaning every man and his goat had to get off the top of the bus to walk across the check point, only to then climb on the roof again 20 yards down the road!

What I’ve seen of Kathmandu on the telly since looks like its “developed” a lot since we were there. Tuk tuks were the height of sophistication then!

“The worst genital injuries ever seen” by the surgeon (on a child or adult) and some on here think that package of punishment is adequate…

As for the OP’s tendency to shake, why the hell make an issue of that?! He has every right to express his anger. I hope philc is right in that this girl ‘might’ forget, I have my doubts.

I’m guessing he’s looking at solitary.

I have dishwasher ‘issues’ at the moment and all 3 (4th one due tomorrow – bloody Hotpoint!) engineers have stated that the first thing a dishwasher does when started is to try and empty any water that may still be in there. A pump does this, so you may be right. Mine had glass (broken) in it. However, that was just the beginning of my problems…

No one has come out of this with any credit so far tbh. I agree that Wiggle is unlikely to have any responsibility and if they sort something out for the guy then they will be the moral victors (in much the same way that companies like Oakley and Hope go out of their way to help people even if there is no legal obligation to do so).

Whatever way you look at it, Wiggle should have arrived at a conclusion by now.

Having this in the public domain isn’t going to help though. Through my rose tinted (Oakley) goggles, it would be great to see Wiggle respond to this telling the OP exactly why he has no recourse, but then help him anyway…

I did some work in UAE a few years ago and a few local clients got the hump because our company didn’t have a permanent presence out there (whilst trying to establish a technical facility). There seems to be a “I want to see you NOW” approach, which is not entirely unreasonable.

In your case, they may not have thought it through. Could you not arrange other meetings / sales visits whilst you are there?

The bus company will probably ignore you, if it was serious bad driving then contact police (seeing as you have a witness).

Is the recommendation the product code 304 on that link? What does it mean by “can be operated either inside or outside the door”? DOes that mean you choose to fit inside or outside OR that they fit in such a way as to allow unlocking from either side?

Also, flatfish – you mention another manufacturer? Is that of equal quality or a ‘better’ manufacturer?

    Thanks

Thanks again for the tips above, used this as an excuse to but the Dremmel I’ve always wanted! Cut out the offending section of the strip and used the solid block to form as edge idea! Still ‘in progress’ but should sort it.

He’d look an arse giving you a bad reference after renting to you for 9 years! At the other end of the scale, I recently gave a telephone reference for a previous tenant (who was Ok but not perfect). I was simply asked “are they OK”, I replied yes and that was it.

Not very reassuring for landlords but I doubt you’ll have a problem. If he wants you out, a good reference will also ease that transition.

They can be serviced as well so will last forever. Make sure you choose the right size, they are not a one size fits all type affair. Plenty of other makes with similar qualities tho. Human Scale make some obscenely comfortable chairs.
