How do you “unexpectedly” have one of those in your living room?

Of course, money talks so if you want to splash out there are numerous hospitality options that are obtainable. Talking nearer 200 a head though (including IME pretty ordinary meal – did get to meet Phil Neal though, which was quite exciting for me being a Liverpool fan and very old!).

Odd that someone would compare that to Prestcott! That punch was the only decent thing Prestcott did in his entire political career! The only thing he had to be ashamed of was not following up with a right cross. Why should he have had to stand there and take an egg in the face from the local village idiot? Don’t remember him ‘checking’ for back-up – just an instinctive reaction to being attacked.

The vid above was of course entirely different…

mugboo – that’s pretty much what we got (we had the front done as well) apart from the exterior colour. Our front was £1050 fitted. That included the knocker with spy hole. We didn’t get the four hook locks, just the two. If you have need / use for a chain then you need to order that as well for obvious reasons. We didn’t because I forgot and with small kids its one thing that I miss.

The chrome door furniture seems high quality to me but its early days. Its certainly not B&Q “chrome”!!

How worried / concerned are you about degree of security? We went the Rockdoor vault route recently and it was a grand fitted. Its a lot of money but we went for the pay once principle…

If that fits your budget I’d recommend verysecuredoors.co.uk

Seems to be a one man outfit but he fits Rockdoors all day every day and was the most reliable tradesman I’ve used in years. Based in Derby but will travel.

Rabble – had to use them for the first time in almost ten years last week. Hated every minute of it. Made sure I read ALL the rules though to avoid that type of thing. I hope I last at least another ten years…

I went to my local Vauxhall dealer and the salesman used to work for AC – he hated it and left. He was pretty awful mind – all cheap suit, jargon and pushiness.

look at RGB direct. They have a 40″ Samsung in their sale that gets good reviews. Can’t remember the model but I had a good look at it before I went for a Sony a few months ago.

Uhmmm, all seemed a bit dis-jointed to me last night. Maybe just the first date of the tour thing. Still damn good though. Worth the trip from Cheshire!

rudebwoy – assume you are a locksmith? Am I being naive in believing the blurb…

“Ultimate Series Rockdoors feature Secured by Design anti bump, anti pick and anti drill cylinders. In addition, Zinc cylinder guard protectors (which are fitted as standard on all Rockdoor Ultimate Series doors) provide a layer of security to the locking barrel ensuring it can’t be snapped by burglars.”

Can’t help on that one but can confirm that the doors I had done today appear top notch! Bloody heavy!

Your budget I guess is what will determine your choice! I was directed towards doors less than half the price I paid by one company. I then watched the Youtube videos of the Rockdoors being smashed in and how they compared to a standard composite door – decision made. The vids also show how long it takes the Fire Service to break one in – nearly two minutes with an angle grinder! Admittedly that has downsides as you’re buggered if you ‘need’ to get in – fire inside or something. I was focused on keeping scrotes out though.

EDIT: Rockdoors do three quality ranges btw. I went for the Ultimates.

I doubt it’d be a clincher either way. There’s a lot of buyers out there that like the idea of having their own do’er upper opportunity. I’d forget the value bit and make it work for you. You say that you’ll be there for a few more years…your split function idea seems cheap and will give you some added quality of life.

Having only glanced at many of the replies (the driving heroes were getting too hormonal for me) one thing to bear in mind is what’s recommended by the manufacturer. We have a Seat and it clearly states in the handbook that the owner should replace all 4 tyres with winters rather than two (FWD car). I have no interest in arguing the merits of either options – just something the OP (remember him?) might like to consider.

Neil Kirkby has been appointed Group Chief Executive with immediate effect. Neil joined the company and its board in April 2003 as Group Finance Director and in November 2008 became Group Managing Director. As a member of the board and as a leading member of the senior management team, Neil has made a substantial contribution to the company’s success and in preparing Enterprise for the next stages of its development.

Head office – to this bloke

There’s a guy fitting Rockdoors for us right now. Not cheap but recommended by the local window / door company. I’d have no hesitation in recommending him at verysecuredoors.co.uk He fits only Rockdoors.

He returns calls, is quick, competitively priced and basically does everything he says he will do. I wish I could say the same for the numerous other tradesmen I’ve been trying to deal with in the last 3 months…

Pretty sure Rockdoor have some wood looking options as well.

You could miss out much of Charity by turning right onto the footpath before you fork up to the tarmac grind (uphill skate). Depends on your views re fp riding.

I was paying 80 per month – competent but no interest in what I was doing and can’t say he was at all proactive in saving me money. Now pay piece meal – 75 for end of year, 25 for each VAT return etc. Local accountant – no more proactive than the last one but way cheaper.

A guarantor worked for us when our ‘supposedly’ credit checked tenant did a runner without paying the rent. It was his mother who was less keen on an appointment at the local magistrate’s court than he was! We relied on the agent to credit check him – all was fine. He had no job, abused neighbours, brought in a burd to live there and ending up doing 8 years at HM pleasure. I’m still not sure who was scummier, him or the agent…

Thanks all, anyone have any opinions on Rock Door? One guy tells me they are the best, another says no better than any other. Thinking of the French doors here rather than normal front/back door.

[quoteYep – ended up in the front row upstairs (so seated). Looked like mayhem downstairs and it was f’ing loud, even by their standards, in such a small venue….[/quote]

It was mayhem, but damn good! Considering Mr Johnson had his lung drained earlier that day – he did all right for an old fella…

I ‘could’ have a Rothan for sale toinght – seems like I’ve been let down by the guy who wanted it earlier this week. Anybody interested can look at my for sale ad and drop me a line.

I agree that this landlord is an idiot, but without being too rude, you seem the type of tenant that blokes like this thrive on! I’m sure that you will get the vast majority of your money back but you need to take a more responsible attitude – I’d have walked if I was told to “live with” anything, let alone electrical issues. Has he got a safety certificate for the flat?

I’m no expert but I would imagine that anybody inheriting would have to honour your existing contract unless there are specific clauses which contradict that. Seems like an ideal time to extend for another year with a new contract though as it seems both of you want you to stay. That’s what I’d do in your shoes.

Glasgowdan is right – be bloody minded and get digging. I used an axe to get through the roots. Plenty of swearing and a cold drink to hand and it’ll be fine.

I had this recently – we have 6 x 50W halogens in a room and the dimmer went bang. Bloke in B&Q (I know, I know) suggested that the spike when a halogen goes could exceed the rating of the dimmer. The replacement that I’d already selected from the shelf was rated below the 6 x 50W! I changed it for a 400W rated version but said B&Q sage suggested getting eco halogen bulbs with lower ratings to maximise the chances of the dimmer surviving the next time a bulb goes pop. I have no idea if any of this is true but sounded plausible to me…
