Bedmaker – I looked at that model as well, it was my preferred choice and I think I emailed you about it ages ago as I’d seen your photo in another thread! Yes it is the S10-40. We were told by an installer that the wall hung version wouldn’t be suitable for our situation. I was told many things – very few of them true!

I now need to get building / buying wood stores…

hooli – perfectly possible to use the rear flue (or indeed top) exit on the stove and straight to an outside wall. They can “make” a chimney for you! Can also be done indoors – straight up through the roof space although that seems a bit of an arse to me.

True enough but it doesn’t struggle to heat the room! Setting it back was all part of the look that we wanted and its always going to be a secondary heat source.

Is that the bloke from retro bike? I used him for a full service but not forks. He didn’t seem that much cheaper than mojo or others for that.

Not a representative sample but I have heard of two horror stories from owners – both major engine failures with Land Rover wanting nothing to do with it anymore (both just out of warranty – like yours will be…).

I’d be looking at xc90s (Edit: As would him above!)

Scale? Surely that would require a very small stove?

There was no uneven wear on this car and the summers were still in good nick. If 3.5mm is a “lot” in terms of tracking I certainly never noticed any pulling to one side or the other. Just have to trust him I guess.

Thanks – assuming the conference centre will charge. I will take another look at the Malmaisson – used it before and it was very busy and loud. That was the bar at the front though – they may have quieter areas I guess.

    Any other suggestions anyone?

I have long term pain via arthritis. Happy to do the drugs but even they have limits. Tried acupuncture for pain in the chest wall and much to my surprise, it was very effective. Done on NHS via hospital physio dept.

With a name like twinw4ll, I guess he knows his stuff but in my recent experience the so called “professionals” are as inept as the advice on here…or worse. If you get the right stove, you could get away with a glass hearth if that took your fancy. Easier to take with you and leaves the new occupier with more options.

Flat road, daylight, lights on, reflective gear – all this adds up to the fact that his eyesight “might not” be up to driving. If you got his details I’d report it. You might be saving him as much as other road users.

I’m not sure I agree with the so called “defensive” riding position. It will reduce potential for being clipped by careless drivers but will wind up the aggressive idiots even more. Not a nice choice though so continue to do what your were doing and ride where you are most comfortable.

I play both and remain talentless at both. The only contradiction I see is that on a sunny day I’d like to be doing both. There is a huge difference now in the way that golf can be accessed in this country. 30 years ago when I started we were treated like scum at most clubs, now I see the complete opposite with juniors and non-members being encouraged at the majority of courses. Snobs can still find homes (both north and south of the border) but there are plenty of options for us that like to drink in a bar without wearing a tie!

One of the great things about golf is that we can play at the same venues as the pros (many of the venues at least). Doubt I’ll ever have a kick around at Anfield but have played played Royal Birkdale, Turnberry, Belfry etc.

http://www.kbsa.org.uk/ You could try that lot to see if they recognise the label codes. Or Paula Rosa/Manhatten kitchens or Symphony. Wates would tend to use one of the big suppliers I’d imagine. How old is the house? I know we inherited a house ‘manual’ with all kinds of technical detail on appliances / kitchens / alarms etc. Do you have one stashed away somewhere?

Ah, having now seen a second youtube clip, I see where you’re coming from. Rubberised flue guide then infilled to account for bends. I wonder how spendy that process is?

dickyboy – just looked that up. Not sure that would solve my problem as my existing chimney is sound, its just unsuitable for a 6″ flue liner. Actually, from the previous posts, not sure I have a problem as such. If I want the stove that I have chosen, I either leave it unlined or get the restrictions taken out effectively ‘straightening’ the existing chimney (then dropping a liner straight down).

you’ve looked in all your cupboards, under the cutlery tray within the kitchen? Most suppliers put labels on all their carcasses.

sharkbait – You are right in that they are precast – by design in other words rather than a defect and preventing rain sounds feasible. It might not ‘narrow’ – it might be that the precast sections are simply offset to create that shape – you can see it in the 2nd photo where the circular hole to the sky is partially blocked.
In effect it creates a bend that a liner would have to go around. The precast box sections may still be 7″ but to get a 6″ liner to bend sufficiently in such a limited ‘vertical’ distance seems unlikely.

Totalshell. As I understand it, a liner would heat up much quicker than a wider chimney thereby giving greater efficiency and all together less faff when lighting. Also restricts any nastiness regarding creosote formation (although I will attempt to burn the right things and not burn overnight).

Mrmonkfinger – DIY is limited to the first photo – everything else will be “expert” led. That said, some of the fitters that I have around have been shameful (suggestions of reg avoidance including one recommended strongly on here!!)

mrmonkfinger – the constrictions are narrowings within the chimney construct, which seem to give approx 45 degree bends. I think their purpose is to increase draw.

So perhaps I’m not going to die if I leave it unlined. The ultimate for me would be to get it lined with a 6″ flue liner that was flexible enough to be able to manoeuvre around the constrictions. Not sure if such liner exists though. I have a small section of standard liner and although classed as ‘flexible’, it doesn’t bend that much.

The only thing I can confirm is that every installer tells me something different. I’d look at the regs and make your own decision then tell them what you want fitted and how. Any doubts, speak to building control rather than the fitter. I have two more installers due out on Monday to give quotes – I hope one of them gives me some confidence…

Bigsurfer – did you ever consider putting the glass hearth on carpet? Just spoke to a guy who reckoned that it would be unsafe, not due to heat but because the hearth and stove would slip! Seems hard to believe that a 98Kg stove would move that easily?

Trail rat – yeah the catalogue’s cover has the top exit shown as well. I guess the brochures are international but the pictures suggest a thin glass hearth direct onto a wooden floor. I guess its artistic licence.

Surfer, that kind of look is what I prefer – I want the morso S10-40. What (if you don’t mind me asking) flooring is yours placed on? And what depth of hearth? We will have carpet laid but I’m confused as to whether I’ll get away with 12mm of slate/glass or whether I need the full depth of hearth.

surfer – that’s what I thought. I have another installer booked for Monday to take a look. Did you have to buy flue pipe with an access door or did the fitter just fabricate one? I’d quite like the sweeping to be done externally as well.

kcal – 6M x 4M x 2m (ish) ceilings. We have central heating as well but I’d obviously turn that down/off downstairs in the evenings.

Sharkbait – room is 6×4 ish (a little over) and I have an irrational desire for an Austroflamm Chester Compact stove! We have double doors into a dining room and one into the hall.

Pants and windows open doesn’t sound too bad…

Those advocating noise retaliation, its not going to help the neighbour’s kid is it! Its not the kid’s fault. Just talk to the bloke and stop being so utterly pathetic.
