I have it in my will that I get burnt in a box with none of this funeral rubbish. Small family event when scattering my ashes. Having been to a fair few funerals, I view the curtains closing and the coffin sinking as the pinnacle of torture for those left behind.

OK…I’ll bite – how exactly was it “taken off somebody”? We’ve had the good news – now the juicy bits please!

DrP – if you don’t mind me asking how much did that store cost and where from please (assuming you are happy with it!!). The make myself options appeals but I know it will never happen…

Could you not sell the land to developers and let them take the risk? With the cash that is generated you might be able to buy a house that you might not otherwise be able to afford? Or, work with a developer to build a few affordable homes and use the profit to do the same. It might be easier to get permission for the affordable stuff rather than a single house for yourself.

Useful thread this one. I have to confess that I wouldn’t have expected paracetamol to be this dangerous unless a bucket load had been swallowed.

Yep – in what was Dreams. If they use the whole thing it should be a pretty big store. They are fitting it out now. I would imagine it being quite a risky undertaking for Peak Cyclesport to take over all that extra space – will be another big shop. They needed some more workshop space though!

I agree with the general principles of what others are saying but the fact that my youngest had stabilisers was key to getting her on the bike at all. As soon as she was on and joining in with her mates around the local fields she then wanted rid of them as her mates had progressed without them – peer pressure! That wouldn’t have happened without stabilisers – not all kids of cyclists will naturally love cycling.

I think some of the abuse that you have received is due to shock as you appear otherwise to be a fairly normal rational character…and on here that makes you stand out from the crowd a little! It did sound a bit like you wanted to get more runners from them but you have said that this isn’t the case.

However, the upshot is that they have supplied you with goods to perform a function even though effectively they ended up being free of charge. I don’t think contractually there is any requirement to charge a certain amount for a certain thing? Unless they have T&Cs that explicitly state that a refund ends their contract and you have that in writing (a receipt for example) then I suspect there remains a duty of care on their part – should you wish to pursue your oily carpet for example. Them letting you keep the drawers was probably a cost saving excercise as someone else pointed out.

I agree with you in that there is more to this than originally met the eye although from a general point of view than the drawer runners. If it had collapsed and your kid hurt for instance…how would a refund have exonerated them from their responsibilities to sell safe products for example.

EDIT – of course IANAL – thoughts rather than facts…

c’mon then Molgrips – spill the beans, what did you manage to get? I’d like one of their Goretex jackets in XL if anyone sees one and wouldn’t mind posting…

You’re all wrong! It needs to be kept inside your heads not “acted” out by luvvvies. Worst thing about Pratchett books were the covers, I used to try desperately not to look at them! And as for the bloody tv stuff…

I’ve spent the last few years trying to build a business and grants of various kinds are why its still viable. However, schemes like these just seem to keep the ‘unemployable’ in well paid ‘consultancy’ roles. You see the same old faces popping up from scheme to scheme and rarely are they capable of moving a business forward.

Spend your time looking for grants that allow you to do what you think your business needs rather than what someone else thinks. There are some good options out there.

I don’t believe that you can get 4 wheeled drive and an auto box, if that has any impact. Or at least it seemed that way when I looked.

deadly – under the May 16 rule that was confirmed above, you might get a little more than 3m if you doing stuff in the next 12-15 months (you need to check as I was just looking at detached)

Thanks all, its more an issue of the individual elements within a bill that I had a query about rather than the need to go to the flat rate. Some receipts break them down, some don’t.

Vauxhalls can be very tempting as you can get a lot of metal for your money. I had a timing chain issue with a Vectra that failed (was deemed to need replacement rather than catastrophically failing) just outside of warranty and the main dealer (and Vauxhall UK) were completely shite. Obstructively so, not just doing nothing but putting hurdles in the way to getting me back on the road. I px’ed it and will never go near another.

I have it, diagnosed about 6-7 (maybe longer) years ago after suffering from severe hip pain i.e. painful to walk let alone do anything more active. I suffer more when I don’t exercise (as is the case now!) and can find it difficult / embarrassing to actually get on and off the bike.

The eye condition that you mention is I think iritis (uvitis sp?). I’ve had that three or four times and if you get it you need to get seen at an eye clinic pronto. Last episode led to next to zero vision in one eye within three days of ‘getting that feeling’! It is very treatable as long as it gets seen to early.

I am now having fortnightly Humira injections (get to stab myself) and still take sulphasalazine, methotexate etc. For me it has been transformational (the Humira bit) and I now take anti-inflams rarely. There are strict NICE guidelines that must be met before you will get Humira as it is expensive. You almost have to degenerate to a certain level before they will prescribe it. However, it works for me and I consider myself lucky to be getting it although I was persistent and bloody minded and never stopped chasing for it. I had regular NHS physio for years including acupuncture and all of that helped. Never underestimate the ‘self-help’ element i.e. keep up the stretches etc esp if you are a desk jockey like me!

EDIT – biggest pain for me has been the monthly blood tests as its very difficult to get convenient appointments. My GP has been less than helpful and has until recently refused to issue more than one blood form at a time. That seems to be changing and getting a few at a time means that I can just pop into the hospital at a time that fits in with work and am out again in 5 minutes.

I’ve had two from them including my current car. First one mysteriously did 30 miles between the time I put a deposit down for it and the day I picked it up and spontaneously developed a ding in the alloy (they didn’t offer test drives in those days). I only spotted that when I had crawled to the nearest petrol station to top up the fumes they had given me. Initially they didn’t want to know and denied moving it anywhere other than the on-site garage. Informing them that I was about to park it across their entrance got a more helpful response and a wheel change. Interestingly, the wreck that I was part exing was on a low loader and being driven off site before I completed the paperwork for the new car – it would have been humorous to change my mind at that time! The car I bought had 15k miles on the clock and was about 18 months old. It was ex hire and brought in from N Ireland so had a plate ‘history’. I didn’t care about the origin as I was aware that Motorpoint did lots of that at the time but the fact that the car has gone beyond its service interval caused me problems with Ford, who said the warranty was void. I had to get an after market warranty agreed by Motorpoint instead.

The more recent purchase was a lot better – they have grown as a business since my first purchase. Quite a smooth transaction and an easy way to part ex something that wasn’t in the best of health. They still try and suggest that you need their ‘buyers’ pack – forget the exact name but costs 99 quid and is phrased to suggest it includes some kind of registration fee. It is not necessary or compulsory.

If you keep your wits about you and don’t mind ex-fleet / hire cars etc then it is a good and well priced place to buy. If you fancy something top end it becomes a complete bargain – there were some BMW 6 series on there recently for peanuts.

This is timely – I’ve just spent an hour or so pushing beemers up the street (with the owners’ permission!). One parked up on the verge and 20 mins later rolled down the hill for 80 yards and re-positioned itself in a bush! Were it not for the small tree behind the bush, my neighbour would have had a draughty living room tonight!

Alarm went off and passenger window opened itself – very strange! Interesting to hear about the discs cooling idea further up this thread.

Thanks everyone – Glad that they work well! I like the idea of having the extra wifi bit.

Supplementary question – if the Humax is next to the PS3 – can I just swap the ethernet cable between the two? I play wirelessly online on the PS3 but it seems to freeze quite often which I am putting down to the wifi.

If this happened how the OP says it happened (and that is all we have to make a judgement) then the bloke with the dog should pay up for the damaged gear and any other losses the OP suffers. Shit happens is typical dog owner rubbish. OP said it was a shared walking and cycling path not a bloody dog walking alley. How the hell was he expected to see a dog running out from behind another bike in the dark?

I’d recommend the Belle Mare Plage as a great hotel. 5 star but laid back at the same time. Air Mauritius planes were a tad creaky for my liking though… I’m a golfer for which Mauritius caters well, I’d struggle there for ten days if not as beaches are tolerated rather than enjoyed for me.
