Having just gone (still going) through this I can share ball parks figs with you.

We moved away from knocking through kitchen and utility and extending both out into garden as costs for building works seemed to have sky rocketed recently.

Kitchen units 4.5k (that was discounted via a contact)
Appliances 4k (all Neff so cheaper is available)
    Rip out and re-fit 1.6k
Electrics will be about 2k but includes other stuff in the house
plastering 1k – again other rooms being done as well.
    flooring 1k (just Karndean)
Silestone worktops with integrated sink 4k

Other bits and bobs bring it up to around 20k.

This is for U shaped one side of kitchen and 2.5m run of tall cabinets the other side. Plus 2.2m run of base units and 1.2m of tall in the utility

I can see the whole library – apart from 22 songs that wouldn’t for some reason move across from itunes.

That article helped – thanks. Using the refresh button allowed me to access download options!

Thanks – idiot me was looking at the “Music” app on the phone, which I assume is a Samsung app?

Having found all my songs I’m not getting an option to “download”- only the following options

    Start Instant Mix
    Play Next
    Add to queue
    Add to play list
    Go to artist
    Go to ALbum
    Delete
    Shop for this artist

Anybody seen these hipster bars with table tennis tables in? Seemed really geeky to me then two hours and several beers later it all made sense! Good humoured carnage with four tables in close proximity!

On the “laws” bit – do you have to serve diaginally like proper tennis or anywhere as long as it bounces both sides?

Thanks all – some clarity now. Appreciate the advice.

Muddy bum – the idea was to have all cables arriving at a single point and straight into the switch. The switch will be in the same wall cupboard as the consumer unit – easy access. Access points then dotted around as needed but all connecting cables hidden in walls.

Cougar – as you may have guessed, this isn’t my field and I’m struggling to understand fully what I need (want!). It may be that if the switch remains accesible then I can just have cable runs to that point and plug them into the switch as and when I need them?

My thinking was that I need to plug the router into the switch, the NAS drive into the switch, one laptop in each office (we both work from home, I will be in a garden office soon so would like hard wired connection). That’s 4/8 accounted for.

Then one for TV and one for console (6/8). One in kitchen (wireless would probably suffice here but new kitchen going in anyway – 7/8). One in each bedroom and I’m up to 11/8!! A networked printer – 12/8.

If I want a cctv installed at any time etc etc

My thought process may be flawed?

Thanks all. I think I’ll return the 8 port and get a 16!! Odd that double the number of ports on a switch equates to four times the price!

Building a new house would have been simpler…

Any idea ball park price for one of them securo glide doors – single garage and fitted?

Is this likely to be largely “plug and play” for a non IT bod like me? Or am I biting off more than than I can chew?

Point taken on the cabling – cat 5e it is!

Do any NAs drives come with HD or do I have to buy the HDs in addition to the unit?

I have considered cloud and its the monthly on-going costs that put me off. I do make use of the Google free limits for photo back ups etc but a pay once solution appeals.

br – in all seriousness, this scheme is a very positive way of wealthy people reducing their tax burden. There is still an element of risk – albeit not for the full investment but the scheme allows (or provides a greater chance) for start ups to get to where they need to be to succeed. It creates jobs.

We’re still in business because of it. The alternative is that wealthy people sit on their cash or hide it.

Curious – its an HMRC letter stating that they confirm that the business qualifies – subject to no porkies being told. A couple of lines – no more detail than that. You might want (as mentioned above) some commitment from the company to say that they won’t deliberately balls that up by operating outside of the parameters – my investors didn’t ask anything more than sight of the letter.

I’ve been through this but from the “other side” i.e. it was my business that was SEIS (and therefore EIS) qualified. You friend should be able to provide an advanced assurance that his business meets the criteria.

I think the business is allowed £150k of investment via this route and then another £1M in follow on EIS. An invidual is allowed to invest £100k – not sure if that is yearly or every X many years.

HMRC were helpful on the telephone but adminstratively slow and prone to “losing” stuff.

Its only eligible for full ordinary shares so no special treatment allowed.

Another “thought I was alone” member for this particular affliction. Seeds inside of peppers – yuck!! Not too keen on looking too closely at strawberries either…

I asked the very same recently. Should be in my history. I went with “The Garden Office .co .uk”
We having ours installed in May. Spendy but VAT through the business as its an office. Lots of recommendations for Dunster but I found them awful on the customer service front and insulation is poor. Trust Pilot reviews were enough to kill them as an option.

Garden Office has a showroom in Bucks which was a trek for us but they give you £200 off if you view in person. They include site visit, ground prep and installation in their costs, although install is a chunk more if you are 100 miles+ from their factory.

For those with tickets for London or Manc – are you trying for a refund or would you “accept” Axl as a stand in? I was hoping for Lzzy Hale! Can’t see them keeping Axl on for the summer anyway.

I went a week or so ago. Only did the first loop. There are closures during the week that would ruin it for me, due to forestry work. The claim in the notice is that all open at weekends but we fould the best descent (after the fire road up from the moors loop) taped off.

I hadn’t been for a while either and I found some the the descents towards the end more challenging than I had remember – lots of small drop offs into worn landings which made things difficult for my ability. Everybody else seemed to be flying them so I assume I’m just crap!

Still nice though and much more fun than the Marin that we did the day before.

Thanks all – I don’t want to do it myself as I will balls it up. Just wanted to know if an independent could do it or has to be (officially) BT. If its a fixed price I’m less concerned.

I’m going through this at the moment although specifically for a garden office. Dunster House got good mentions on here but take a look at Trust Pilot before you press go with them! Their sales technique was awful and run via a call centre focussed on commission rather than helping!

I’m using “The Garden Office .co .uk” Not cheap but very good to deal with and are honest as to what they do best e.g. if you have a local spark, they encourage that rather than upsell their own expensive option. They focus on the structures.

I only have access to appointments and repeats. The repeat bit means I don’t have to keep clogging up their reception so is a win all round. Haven’t used the appointment but took a look and very few were available!

I would welcome access to my history – not sure if it means greater security risks?

Well it seems the retention team can at least make a decision. Asked for the PAC, was politely dealt with and asked why. Upshot, new Samsung S6 for nowt and £23 a month for unlimited mins and texts and 6G of data. They even came up with the extra data option themselves rather than the 2G package I asked for.

No choice – seems to be the only network that reaches my house – and I live in surburbia!!

EDIT – a question on that aspect. I’m on an old 3G phone, will swapping to a 4g phone change that scenario i.e. does 4G use the same mast network or could coverage be better than 3G in the same location?

Thanks all. Really helpful. Haven’t bought a new phone in years and this is jogging the memory as to why I went SIM only in the first place!

I’ll keep plugging away at Vodaphone!

Interesting idea about the SIM switch. What ‘good budget phones’ can you suggest.

thanks – the S6 is only 22 a month which is the only reason that I’m considering contract again. Been SIM only for years but the iphone 3S is a little long in the tooth!

I sat in a scout in the showroom and was very impressed – didn’t drive it though. Not sure if they do various spec levels of it but this one had all the bells and whistles. Nearly 30k though as I remember.

Have you thought of leasing direct from Skoda or do you do too many miles. They have some cracking offers on 2 year leases (plus longer terms if you need that). Excess mileage is only 7.2p a mile, which seems good if you do go over the limit.

Do you not find that your undercarriage gets soaked with the slots in those Selle saddles? Or are there inserts that fill the void like some of the old specialised saddles?

I got a Sony HX90 recently for a little over your budget – enjoying it. Others have enthused about the Rx100(?) Mk1 which can be had for a little over budget as well. Big thread on it at the moment

Jambo – for some reason the BR rate has been applied. It should have been noticed, it wasn’t. Just seekign clarification on the impending implications of doom! It seems that time will be allowed – this is good! The interest element not understood yet.

The person concerned isn’t known for attention to detail. That might change now!
