This is refreshing to get such a consensus for once, bar an idiot or two, but is this because its a child rather than an adult? Would anyones’ view have changed had it been the OP on his bike and getting nipped?

I suspect that we’d be hearing more MTFU comments, when this discussion has really highlighted the need for control rather than any particular outcome.

For me, both dogs, kick in the balls (or slats). In those circumstances you simply wouldn’t be thinking “I wonder if Fido will think this is a game” when I despatch its nuts into the sea.

    Uhmmm, the Claymores REALLY appeal.

However, does anybody know for sure whether or not the ultrasonic things will work through a window? Or indeed whether they can be set to ‘on’ all the time and not rely on a sensor?

Signs won’t work, its one obnoxious owner. Caught an old hag letting her dog crap on my flower bed once and ‘had words’. Her response was “well build an effing wall then”.

I suspect its her or her husband so a sign won’t cut it. I hate the idea of cctv but may have to resort. Assume fines will come into play if evidence can be produced?

Yeah thought about a camera but it pointing out into the front of the neighbours opposite might annoy them. Not even sure of the legality. Obviously it would be pointed at the lawn but even so.

Also, they could just crap further round the side of the house. Lawn is not deep but is quite long.

A steaming pile of dog crap. The owner of the mutt yet to be identified after allowing its furry friend to shit there for the past three years.

One day I’ll see it happen and engage the appropriate (and disproportionate) revenge plan.

New thread soon to be started on ultrasonics…

Pedalcover has been entirely new for old until now but it seems people have been taking the proverbial, not entirely surprising I guess as there seems to be an entitlement culture when it comes to insurance.

Hiscox are Barclays’ agent but they were pricy.

I’ve renewed with Pedalcover as they explained the rationale behind the changes and you can’t really disagree with the thinking behind it. Honest customers bearing the brunt of the scum that use insurance policies as cash machines. My words – not theirs!!

Pedalcover claim to pay out if needed in cash rather than the Wheelie route, which can be a pain I hear. I think Pedalcover remain new for old for bikes under 1500 quid

Although if you can prove bits (upgrades) are newer then they would cover full cost on those i.e brand new Pikes on a 2005 bike would get 50% for the frame and 100% for the fork.

    Ok thanks for the replies.

It was late when I posted so didn’t explain myself fully. There’s a selfish element here.

Its a two year lease deal on a supposdely new car. We’re handing the car back a week or so earlier than the end of the two year deal (due to holiday rather than design).

We have done 11k in the period we’ve had the car but have no vested interest in servicing more regularly. With the oil service not due for 7000 miles my question really related to the “inspection” element.

Firstly, is that the same thing as the oil service? Answers so far seem to confirm that it is. Just using different termninology to differentiate between the fixed and variable options?

Secondly, if the requirement is every two years can we argue that this should relate to two years of ownership (lease in this case)? We had to wait for the car to arrive from the factory so it should have been with us pretty quickly – the countdown we have suggests 5 weeks before we took possesion of the car.

There’s no specific reference to this in the docs of course…

Just as way of an update

Found a good deal on a VW Tiguan at 1300 down and 226 a month for 2 years. 2.0TDI 150SE Nav.

Surprised just how nice these motors are!

All I can say after trawling the showrooms is that the industry must be doing pretty well. Ignored in most show rooms including the local VW place. Now ordering from 150 miles away with free delivery..

Seat dealer was by far the most welcoming, the Ateca is nice but too spendy.

The glass adhesive stuff is really surprisingly good. Maybe a bit too fixed for this purpose though?

Enterprise being “excellent” is something id have to disagree with. We had a different but shocking experience with them and a rental supplied whilst our car was off the road!! Caused stress and nearly a court date as they tried to rip off the other drivers insurance for our costs. Doubling the usual hire charge to try and fleece them..

Theyre all shite and right up there with estate agents!!

Unlike one or two on here – you have my sympathy, you’ve essentially been mugged for £200.

I had an issue with Europcar whereby they added £100 valet charge to my cc after declaring that there would be no charges when I dropped it off. This valet charge was due to sand in the boot – bucket and spade type residue rather than a ton bag from Wickes!

Chargeback via Santander intially met with the same repsonse that you have received – they say no so we can’t be arsed. Go back as advised above and insist. FO would be the follow up I think if they dig their heels in.

Remember, most people will simply give up at first refusal so keep at them.

Same situation with me, just had Pedal cover renewel through and the price remains good. HOWEVER, they have changed the new for old part of the bikes (over 1500 quid) cover to say that they will reduce the payout by 50% for any bike over ten years old.

This screws me as some of my bikes are that old. They may not be worth much if I sell but would be a fortune to replace.

Time to look elsewhere for me.

DrP – recent? Where from please?

Jamba – do you mean retail prices will be similar or lease costs – they don’t always seem to match! We’re pretty stuck for having to replace in August.

The merc looks great but out of budget still. Can’t say that I can see any xc60 deals at 3+ and 250pm on the What Car link? All seem much pricier than that?

johndoh – where was the xc60 from please?

For reference, current deal was 2k down and 175pm over 2 years. Would like something for simialr money but offers seems scarce. Audi A4 1.4TSI seems to be the exception at the moment coming in at around 200pm

jamba – hoping that calling tomorrow and paying up what we owe will avert the fine and nasty involvement with hire car company. We do want to pay up just couldn’t initially work out how to do it. Never been though a set of toll booth before with zero humans working…although this is France.

thanks for the replies – the car is a rental on local plates. We’ve been told locally to call and explain but as Edukator says, we may have to pay for the whole motorway!!

Had visions of 200 EURO fines or worse!!

    Thanks – back it goes.

To confirm, the “right” one will be a direct replacement for the HH? Just plug it in type of thing. I don’t know anything about ports and IP address changing…

OK, seems that I have the second of the two that Drac has shown on the images above.

Does this mean that I still need the HH?

If I send it back and exchange it for the first picture, will that act as a single solution? That is to say a direct replacement for the BT HH?

What is the point of the one that I have bought?

    Sorry – follow up question!

Now that the Netgear router has arrived – is this all we need to replace the BT Homehub? Or do we need an additional modem? The BT hub had a separate socket to attach the cable to the BT master switch but that doesn’t seem to exist on the Netgear?

Is anybody using the BT Smarthub? PC advisor gave it the highest ranking even over the external antenane models? Would be free if we re-contracted. Does it offer any more than HH5, this reviews suggests its better but no detail as to why?

caher – I did try that and you are correct, things do improve. But it now needs this several times a day! Something else going on…

uhmmm, can’t see it being neighbours as all sides are single OAPs without a great deal of need for wifi.

Are Sky equivalent hubs liekly to perform any better as considering getting rid of BT anyway? To be fair – the BT hub has performed well until now, perhaps its just knackered.

To the OP. I experienced something simialr on holiday in Norfolk a few years back. However, I was the parent of the children at the focus of attention of someone else’s camera.

Broad daylight in this case, but similar in that it was fair ground / carnival type environment. When watching my kids on the bouncy castle the young guy running the thing suddenly went ape at a middle aged guy near me. Turns out he had no kids / grand kids on the castle and had been back three times to take pictures.

All hell broke loose and the guy ran. I tracked him down at the end of the promenade and invited him to hand over the camera. It was rammed full of images of kids on the castle, the beach and on fair ground rides, no other “scenery” shots at all. It was disturbing to see photos of my kids on this guy’s camera.

I took it back to the bouncy castle and showed other parents (the guy was following demanding his camera back). To be honest, I thought the guy was going to be lynched as the owner of the castle had showed up by this time (his kids were also on the camera). Sense prevailed and the police were called (the camera owner was being ‘detained’ at this time). As the OP stated, and which came as a surprise to me, this guy had not broken any laws (very different to your scenario in that ALL the photos were of young kids). The police officer explained that he really had to just return the camera as was and shouldn’t delete anything. I guess to reassure us, he deleted everything anyway which helped defuse things a little.

The police officer suggested that an excuse for a home visit would be made to see what was going on back at the home of this guy but we never found out whether or not it was followed up. However, later that week and coincidentally, we bumped into friends of this guy’s family. They were conducting maintenance on the property we were staying in and knocked to let us know that they weren’t ‘perverts’ if they happen to appear at the window! We returned an off the cuff remark about ‘it wouldn’t be the first time this week’ and their faces dropped!

They instantly knew it would be this guy!! They apologised profusely and promised to take his camera away from him. Turns out he had mental health issues and had ‘form’ for inappropriate behaviour with children. They were genuinely fearful that this guy would end up dead as he seemed incapable of changing this behaviour.

I feel for you with your experience but I agree with others that offering to show the images on your screen might have helped. However, I can also imagine the types that you describe and maybe it was impossible to reason with them. Not sure what the point of this post is, merely sharing an episode from a parents’ viewpoint. The only thing that is certain is that peadophiles and bottom feeding Mail readers are all too common, although I suspect that the ratio is heavily weighted toward the latter…

Give her a list of things to do that would actually be helpful, cooking meals, shopping etc. Then take her to see the nipper when it works for you. Give and take but keep her involved and feeling like she’s contributing.

Asked similar myself a wweek or two ago. I ended up with a Weber Spirit S320, which is pretty impressive to be fair. I started however, with a budget close to yours…

Landmann Triton 4 was a leading contender, before I went all Santa Cruz…

Open to correction here pretty sure the Polaris sale had some Beargreases on offer at crazy low prices. By crazy I mean still damned expensive but 50% or more off the madness price.

EDIT – having followed the link above I assume the ones I saw were a higher model, is there a Bear something else?

otherjonv, I meant I couldn’t find discussion on good vs bad options. The bitchfests I found quite quickly!!

I know I want a gas bbq, just some reassurance that the models I’m looking at are good options would be nice.

Perhaps someone could reply under a new login to avoid being outed as the owner of less than 3 michelin bbq stars?
