What exactly was your wife doing when the car was being moved? Surely she’d have noticed a bump? If she didn’t notice and the driver didn’t notice then perhaps someone is pulling a fast one? Prepare for the whiplash claim to follow…

I play golf and wouldn’t have a second thought about waiting for as long as it took to clear the path. Last thing I want as a golfer is to see a ball that I just hit going anywhere near anybody else!

This guy is obviously a dick.

The only thing to bare in mind is that if you see a golfer hunched over his ball on a tee and about to swing, he may not be aware of you. You do tend to focus on the ball rather than anything else and if a cyclist appears during that process there’s not a great hope of stopping the swing!

In your case, that didn’t happen so I re-iterate the dick bit! In any case, playing partners should keep an eye out and warntheir mates. Dicks everywhere but particular hatred of golfers on here! Personally, I play golf to relax not pick arguments with other users of the space.

We were told (by the BCA agent collecting the car) not to bother with repairs as they will do them cheaper than a private garage anyway. Also as mentioned above, they repair it then its their problem – they could still reject a private repair.

It might be part of the document mentioned above but we quoted somehting like 45 quid to refurb an alloy or 160 for a single panel repair etc.

Its not the wild west it once was…

re Cham. I got back 12 days ago (and promptly went straight to Austria!).

Agree with Digby’s comments. Not sure if you are driving (or hiring a car) but we had a mixed group – 2 in a car and 4 using the buses. There were times, especially morning where the buses were infrequent and rammed – much swearing involved. I’d used them years ago and don’t recall issues but it seriously impacted their holiday.

First two days were also bad weather and the info in resort was poor in terms of what was and wasn’t open. The car gave the flexibility to drive elsewhere if for say GM had closures.

The only time we queued was at the telecabin in Flegere – its old and slow. If you intend going up that side (I would) then try and go up at Brevente and use the cable car to gain access to the Flegere side. If using buses you don’t have to worry about which side you end up on! IMO Flegere has nicer runs but Brevente probably has better options for you as a newb (more blue stuff I think).

Apres wise, we didn’t seem to find much in the town apart from the awful Swedish cover band destroying all kinds of classics in the Chambre Neuf (sp). Bighorn Bistro good for food. Intersport in the centre of town was a let down in terms of hiring gear – no interest at all. “What do you expect, they’re all s*it hire boots” was a particular fav from the staff! Use a small independent, the rest of our group did and got top service

Slash next week and ZZ Top’s 50th year gig at Wembley in June! Jimmy Barnes supporting so should be a good night.

Maybe Whiskey Myers if I can be arsed to book it…

Off to Chamonix Sunday! Anybody been out there this season that can report on the queues after the gondola burnt down in the summer? Everything moving OK?

A Klein Mantra! Or the “Ejector” as it became known, probably more me than the bike!

As much as it scared the crap out of me I still have fond memories of it – never ridden a plusher bike over flatish stuff, pointed down over lumpy stuff and we rarely made the bottom together…

What the hell training programs do VW dealers get!? So many examples of real attitude issues – I drive a Mondeo soley because of the lying clown at our VW showroom.

CFH – business rather than anything ‘clandestine’!!

The ability to be heard and not overly ‘overheard’ would be nice. The former because my hearing isn’t great, the latter because its investment related and I don’t want to be competing with Sandra and Derek shrieking about last night’s best ever drink til they puked night out…

crankman – I always enjoyed Le Tour. Not too challenging but some really good stuff to play around in. Interested to hear about lift queues at Grand montet what with the gondola having burnt down, I’m off there after you get back. Can you post up here?

longmover – if you have paid and they have supplied you with a frame – what do you think is going to happen? If they are as bad as they sound they’ll just ignore you. You might want to return that frame if its the wrong colour.

Golden Lion used to be a favourite…28 years ago! It served proper Theakstons. There was another with arched cellars but can’t find it on a search anymore so probably gone. Good place to go to uni, really enjoyed living in Lancaster.
EDIT – the cellars bar was the Merchants

Avoiding child support or divorce payments..? Sorry..its the way you phrased the question!

Any half decent lawyer / accountant will be asking the right questions so its hard to claim poverty by paying a low salary. Unless it was thought about at onset and structured accordingly, the tax / obligation will be paid / due at some time!

Last point is a good one, if your receptionsists receive regular deliveries then they should know the driver. Could cast some light, unless he/she is currently riding your bike!

What does inst influencers mean? Walking up there earlier this week it seems as if Charity Lane is pretty smooth these days? Has a lot been washed out? Certainly bottom half anyway.

Thanks all – some useful ones for future here as well. I’m booked into an Italian place. I couldn’t get into aP’s suggestion of Da Mario but they recommended this alternative. We’ll see but it sounds good.

Will update if its a winner!

BTW the guy at Da Mario couldn’t have been more helpful, he was full but went out of his way to get us into the other place. I’ll be trying Da Mario next time!

Well it turns out that Mr Quagmire was in the ball park! Thanks for all the responses – pleased to hear that there are so many calm and relaxed people out there that wouldn’t be miffed if it were their £££! Its been a lesson for me but resolved now.

Ramsey Neil – I’ll be as polite as ever to the fitting guys – not their fault. However, as you say, slightest issue and I’ll be sure to make myself an irritant.

Quagmire, If they even came back and said “look, its tough on the timings but how about a good will gesture of 10%” then I’d probably be happy. Not that I seem to have any choice in the matter. I agree they’d probably bloat any new quotes, although my quote would have been reduced by 40% if I hadn’t have paid the deposit!!

They have me bent over and latest contact was again “tough luck”. Not even trying to placate me in any way! The power is with them and they are wielding it with joy! I’ll write to their Director and explain why they are being dicks and I’ll use whatever social media is possible to warn others but I’m calming down now that there appears to be no avenue for cancelling. CC chargeback doesn’t apply here as far as I can tell.

They were recommended to me so my hopes on quality remain high. That recommendation will stop at my door though!

Not a bad shout, the relaxing thing might be needed though – not in terms of quiet, more being able to sit there without feeling pressure to move on. Will try that place another time though.

psling – that’s another concern, they want full payment before they even deliver (i.e. the other 50%).

theotherjonv – Strangely not a single mention of cancellation in the Ts&Cs. Not an item that will be repeated for ever but there would have been an opportunity for them to get another order later this year worth probably x3 this order.

sarawak – big assumption, I don’t agree. Do agree with the ‘lost out’ feeling though, although as mentioned more than once – this is a how to treat customers thread rather than claiming anything illegal has gone on.

Merely looking at options (legal ones) that would allow me not to have to do business with this company.

Quagmire – I recognise that not all offers are equal but doubt they’d be 40% apart!

I understand the point being made and its totally fair. The thing I object to is the time spent talking to them on the phone when they knew full well that there was no hurry. There was plenty of personal contact where they had the opportunity to just say, well wait a couple of weeks and your order will be 40% less!

Maybe then I would have ordered more or been more inclined to order again. Its the difference between good and bad customer service. I also feel that I was hurried when there was no need – hence it being cynical. Confirmed by the follow up email essentially saying “tough, we’ve got your cash so you’re screwed”.

Just seeking views on options, if there are any.

I assume that if I have a TV set up in the corner of the room, there’s not a great deal of benefit to adding two Play 1s to a Beam? They’d have to sit right next to the TV. Guessing that loses any benefit of ‘surround’?

Funkydunc – are you planning on using yours as a soundbar as well? I’m torn between Naim (I REALLY want a Muso) or Sonos.

Naim would also be a QB in the kitchen I think but I’ve read that the Muso can’t handle output from 4k TVs (as a soundbar). Don’t know what this means as I thought the 4k bit was picture rather than audio. This means a Sonos Beam and a couple of Play 1s are under consideration.

The BCA charges are quite reasonable and are detailed in our PCH documents – you should know exactly what is likely to be charged. Then make a judgement as to whether them letting you off those charges outweighs being able to shop around

There was a code for xmas day and boxing day only. Included ultimate collection as well. Normally extra discounts don’t include ultimate stuff (which is what most people want!). Seemed like a good deal. I wanted something with the hydrophobic treatment on the down though.
