Guy that collected our Volvo was a picky bugger and spotted two tiny marks that he claimed were above and beyond acceptable on an other wise spotless 40 month old car – tried charging us £350 for the pair.  We refused, wrote to Volvo and they cancelled the charges and apologised.  Two previous cars were accepted without charge, even though the guys collecting found stuff that we couldn’t even see!

I don’t think its the wild west it once was in terms of charges.

Ah, thanks.  Makes sense, no mention of means testing on our letter.  Bin it is.

Pondo (and others crticising the officer).  First released video and most people would entirely agree with you. Now we have more context (maybe not all but enough), you’re entirely wrong to keep harping on about a defenceless ‘victim’.

You talk of protocol and higher standards, how do you think these officers are trained?  Do you think they get meatheads off the street to smack them and their colleagues in the face and head multiple times and then get them to write a paper about correct reactions?!  These officers were defending themselves from a cowardly attack (how many punches were thrown to the back of the officers heads) and would have been dazed and fearful for their own safety.

The “what me gov?” bloke on the bench that looked innocent as pie in the first video had just seconds earlier beat the crap out of police officers by reigning in cowardly punches from behind.  They were dealt with instinctively, text books mean nothing in those situations.

We always used PCH previoulsy as it was the clearest and simplest offer as far as we were concerned.  They became unaffordable though – an XC60 for example went from £400pm (expensive at the time actually, we could have got something less premium for <£300pm)  to £650pm minimum.

We went Skoda on a PCP deal as it was an interest free offer – saved around £6-£7k over the term!  Bigger deposit needed and fat balloon payment at the end (we’ll be keeping it) but really low monthly payments for three years.  We wouldn’t have done it if faced by the same interest rates that you are.

VED is included in the PCH terms but only for the first year in a PCP, as we just found out.  With the RRP of the car just tipping over £40k, this amounts to £600 pa VED for a bloody Skoda!  It was only added options that tipped it over so they ended up being expensive heated rears seats…

EDIT: I always thought it was the opposite way round to what Kramer is suggesting i.e. low depreciating cars are cheaper to lease as the re sale value is high after the term.

pk – I store stuff in the loft that I need regular access to, I don’t fancy having to run that gauntlet every time.  I’m just intrigued as to whether batting the thing across the loft will have pursuaded them to find alternative accomodation or whether they will just continue using the nest on the floor of the loft.  I didn’t hang around long enough to properly destroy it.

Also, wasps and crocodiles, neither can be dead enough for my liking.

He was obviously forced, he has been very vocal about his desire to keep going (which is refreshing for top level sports people, who seem to be in a race to retire sometimes).  I’m sure he would have preferred to exit at OT but maybe its full circle, wasn’t his debut at Lords?

I’m sure he will appear at OT on the pitch but I would have paid handsomely to be in the crowd had he been playing, you’ve no choice but to pay handsomely at Lords…

Purchaser introduced by any other agent or person seems like it would include you or your parents but probably unreasonably so.  Talk to the agents, it won’t be the first time for them and I doubt they want to get into legal wrangles over a single sale

Thanks all, probably futile to chase this.  As suggested up there, it is possible to claim for financial loss and  / or distress but how can the latter ever be valued?

First quote I received was for £126m2!  Over £6k plus VAT.

Dyls’s numbers were more like my expectations but could have stomached £4k I guess.

I’ll try and get some more quotes.

OK, for context its about 50m2.  Existing tarmac driveway, just 20 years old.  Has sunk a little close to the house and generally very second hand looking.

Have considered block paving and resin but guessing those options will be quite a bit more expensive.

Hardboard is MDF, or rather HDF.  Exactly the same manufacturing process other than increased pressure during the pressing phase.  It will split when wet.  Exception being the internal use of thermoformable resins, which allow re-shaping of the boards under heat and pressure.  Irrelevent to the OP needs.

What thickness is the hardboard, usually really thin so should have quite a degree of bend in it before you hear the crack…

I had my first shipment of ink from the Instant service (cartridges they originally supplied lasted ages).  New ink caused all kinds of problems to print quality.  I complained and they sent out new cartridges without a second thought.  Plugged these in and the printer just refused to work – kept complaining on the screen that they were not instant ink and were shop bought versions.

Refused to come out of ‘printer maintainence’ mode so now I have no ink at all…

    Well that wasn’t much fun.

All service history intact, spare good, log book, 2 keys etc etc

    £660!

I was prepared for a couple of hundred off but that just wastes everyones’ time.  Upped it to £750 as I was on the way out.  Seems a few of you lot had a pretty good idea of the likely outcome!

    Lesson learnt.

    Update

What I thought was going to be pretty straightforward is proving to be a right PITA.

It is Lufthansa, I fly with them a fair bit, they are often late.  However 14 hours late getting me to my destination was a record!  We took off an hour late and I wasn’t even close to making the connection.

The pilot apologised stating that they had been delayed by strong head winds and therefore the incoming flight was delayed.  This had been happening all afternoon as the 15.05 flight was only just boarding when I walked by at 15.50 that day.  Just as we were about to depart, there was a report of a fire alarm in the control tower so we had to wait another 5 minutes.

I filled in the online complaint form and Lufthansa are blaming Airport and Government authorities!!  Point blank refuse to issue the standard EU compensation for >3 hours delay.  Now with SOP, the German arbitration service…

Anyone know if I can just issue a Letter before Action and drag them down to the Magistrates Court!? I’ve not asked for the lost hotel cost either – just the EU standard compo.

If you can wait one more day you can get some Cruz bars from Roofbox on next day delivery.  I was also in a hurry and went to Halfords and they had stock of the Thule ones. Cruz maybe 80 quid cheaper

Yes, work trip but I own the business so keen to get this done.

I ended up arriving 14 hours later than I should have.  To be honest, in hindsight, no way I’d book that rouet again with a 50 minute connection at an airport the size of Frankfurt!  Arrival gate Z, departure gate B!!

Disco – what was the level of compensation?

Surprised to see Mowgli only getting the one mention, considering budget was limited – really nice!

The one thing that I miss about London is the number of good cheap Japenese places that do a proper Katsu curry – any recommendations in Manc as I’ve yet to find one (not Wagamama!)

Thanks all, can’t get clearer than that!  Harder to notice in the dark and rain and unfamiliar roads but fair cop.

Fortunately I sent these customers back to their hotel in Ubers for the next two days or i might have racked up a few quid in fines!

14 year old Mondeo, £250 full comp; went up to £330 but comparison brought it back down.

Swapped it for an iX and its £990!  Tesla was minimum £1300.

Thanks – seems I’m there now.  It all went blank and back to the menu then half an hour later an email arrived!  Not sure if the test charge ws happening in the intervening period but the car was already plugged in, so maybe!  All done, thanks for help.

Thanks – still frustrating!  They tell me that my car is compatible and then I get chucked back into the ‘main menu’ on the app, which doesn’t list Intelligent tariffs in the options available to me.

In your situation I wouldn’t get a dog.  That’s not preaching, dogs are there to enhance our lives not the other way around (plenty would disagree). The lifestyle that you have wouldn’t be enhanced, you would have to make some compromises.  Breed choice would mitigate that but if it is all likely to fall on you…

I’ve had a PodPoint installed this morning and looking to switch over to Octopus Intelligent tariff, which I appear not to be intelligent enough to master…

No luck online and now I’ve been guided to ‘use the app’. There seem to be several apps related to Octopus!

Going back online and I found another route but its asking me if I have a SMETS1 or SMETS2 smart meter? I have a smart meter but that was installed by Ovo at the beginning of 2018. Any idea how I would tell if that is SMETS 1 or 2?

    Thanks
