DT said he didn’t want too long a TT and reach as not everyone wants a bike like this for racing Enduro
“Longer would be nice if everyone rode straight rock lines and IMBA / ride centre flow trails. But most riders do not, and with angles slacker than ever keeping in touch with that front wheel is going to be a challenge for most, so I did what I did.”
Frame weight is quite high 6.8lbs for large given that its carbon, so doubt it will fail.

Ok but do you or LBS remove seals and look at bearing quality visually or just spin them and see what they feel like?
I have pulled the bearing seals off after 2 months and was amazed at the surface changes, not just on a Five but also on a multi pivot.
Mate runs SC 5010, just replaced all bearings on lower link as shagged after 7 months, again used as only trail bike irrespective of condions, he is ex WCup DH er, so it gets well used and abused, and it was reckoned that was quite sometime too late!!

Cos you ain’t looked at the bearings, that’s why !!

    So to follow on
Basically in 2 months in UK conditions the modern multi pivot ilinkage is longer working correctly as the designer intended as the bearings are shagged/ seized!!
    Not clever

    @ andybrad
Yep lots and people get very hung up on modern linkages, back wheel goes up and down on most, none are perfect as otherwise every bike manufacturer would use it!!
Geometry probably more important, and Orange are well ahead of the curve at present.
Depends what you want, eg Santa Cruz bearings lifetime free, but need mechanic to sort £100 and it will be 4 days before can sort it!! I see it all time with multi link bikes watching guys at Goldtec/ BETD fix countless seized multi pivots!!
Need sorting Every 2 months if bikes are ridden hard, most people don’t even realise the bearings are shagged keep on riding and damage frame/swingarm, doesn’t take long with UK weather.
20 mins and £15 bearing ( which are a decent size not skateboard bearings) on my Five.

Long slack and low, in fact one of the slackest 140 trail bikes on market.
Mine is as only bike, so does everything, antur stiniog, Revolution bike park, Cannock, Dales, Mac Forrest Eastridge,
Unless you can gap 30 foot ( Harry Heath) or loop it (phill atwill), the bike is better than most riders out there!!
5’10” and ride medium, poss had large.

Ex WC DH racer locally rides a 5010 with 160 fox on front, most would struggle to get anywhere near him, up or down hill!!
Trashed the carbon frame rear end so now has the alloy one, and still totalled the rear Enve carbon rim!!

5’10 ride a medium, but could ride a large, as cockpit on mine set almost same as a slammed large.
For me the medium felt more nimble.

This guy was 6 ‘ on a large

Capra seems short in top tube and reach, as modern geometry trends seem to be going longer, so large or extra large would prob be ok, problem then lies with a long seat tube if using a dropper post.
To get an idea of current but not extreme geometry look at Kona process or Orange 5 or Alpine, this style of bike is long slack and low BUT with a short seat tube to accommodate dropper posts.

So does a 911 and so does a Caterham ( of which I have owned 3)
    So what?
Please tell me then which bike / suspension is the best out there, cos if there was one all the bikes would be identical!!!
    Buy what you wish
If you don’t like it, don’t buy and don’t criticise others, it’s a personal choice
Mine gets ridden hard 3 x per week all year round as an only bike ( not the I ride a hard tail in the winter bollocks)
I can do all maintainence at home, so LBS cannot say it will be ready next week!!

    Wi
    Pikes at 140
3 sets rims, all hand built, Stans crests,Stans arch and Ryde trail all with different tyres on! All tubeless with Stans
32 thick thin front 10 speed with hope 40
    Dropper slight layback KS
Burgtec carbon 760 trail bars ( absolutely fab bars)
    50 mm Thomson stem
    Flite saddle
5 ‘ 10 , weight 73 kg Rode on two demo days the 17 (442 reach) and 18 large ( 456 reach) I found the 18 too long and tall at front and I perceived not as nimble, however my 17 is set up and is very similar to an 18 I were to set cockpit up same, if that makes sense?!
Rear shock is CTD FOX Kasimer coated 4 clicks back from slowest compression damping, as advised by Chris Porter @ Mojo and boy does that make the rear grip!!
Weight depends on wheel and tyre combo, but even with Handbuilt crests on it will do bike parks!!
So I gues 28 ish to 29.5 ish
The more solid rims with highroller 2s on front and rear make the bike very stable, particularly at uplift days like Antur Stiniog
    Hope that helps
Orange will send your LBS one to demo if you ask.
It needs more than a car park test, a close friend of mine 30 years my junior has gone long slack and low on a slightly different brand but almost identical geometry, and is a very quick agile big air and style rider said it took him almost 4 months to really understand his bike, coming from a 26 150 travel Lapierre

I have new 17, poss could have had 18.
It is a fab bike, geometry for a 140 trail bike is right on the money, has better proportions and angles with 140 than most 160/170 trail bikes.
Ridden at Revolution bike park, local trails, and at Antur Stiniog, where it kept up with all the 160/170 trail bikes ( despite the rider being twice the age !!)
You will not outride this bike unless you can do 35 foot gap jumps ( cf Harry Heath) or loop it ( cf Phil Attwill)
    Long slack and low!!
    Perfect

Not a million miles away from an Orange Segment in terms of geometry, without quite as long a wheel base, interesting, the Segment is a very quick bike, so the Evil should be similar!

Have a look at the Brickyard site
I had 2.5 l 130 6 speed and it had noticeably more grunt than the 104 5 speed ( new shape ) I have now
But that engines Achilles heel is the fact the water pump and the power steering pump are within the sump. If the seals on either go it’s expensive
An alternator is front of van off to get at too
Cost of either around £800 ouch

The best synopsis of the disease is on the BASS site ( british association of spinal surgeons) under patient advice and nerve damage.
MOST people are not aware that the disease has an hereditary predisposition augmented by various repetitive activities….. Ie blame your parents!!!

One year on from acute severe far lateral prolapse of L3/L4 so affecting front of leg ( femoral ) not sciatic nerve 3 MRI scans. Two top consultants neither would operate, rest and pain relief initially, Physio made it worse, swimming moderate, just went back to riding bike gently and worked from there, still have some discomfort.

Not convinced anything works as ultimately the immune system and desiccation of PID will resolve most of discomfort. When all said and done this is a few millimetres of protuberant disc material pressing against a dorsal root nerve , just along side the spine, how are most therapies going to help bar surgery ? Most improvements are anecdotal, in medicine to prove anything you need randomised double blind trial work, and the relevant statistical analysis .
Given that the disc can protrude or prolapse 360 degrees it’s only when they press on a nerve pain is elicited, many PID go totally unnoticed.

Irrespective of the rear suspension design, which is a personal choice there are few true 140 mm travel trail bikes with as good a geometry as a Five, the Banshee Spitfire is very similar.
Likewise the Banshee Phantom is similar to the Segment in concept, as is the Kona 111.
I don’t think 27.5 lbs ( without pedals) for a 650 Five is unduly heavy, despite not being Carbon?

A simple question , so if Orange did make a multi pivot bike which linkage would you all like VPP DW MAESTRO or one of the bastard derivatives, so an old school Horst link or even a linkage activated SP, your choice !! So which one will make you stand out from the crowd? Mmmmm
Probably one of the reasons Orange don’t go that way, as there’ is no best linkage, otherwise all bikes would have it !!!!

Regarding sag set up, I ride with an ex World Cup downhiller, ( bike is 5010XL), and I struggle to compress the forks particularly, and shock, the reason he rides it so stiff is to maintain the geometry of the bike so it doesn’t wallow.
He also rides a lot faster than the average, pops the bike and floats over the trail instead of hitting it!!
He also take much bigger air time , than most would so needs to a avoid bottoming out!
So on that basis even with a Nomad, it would be set up very stiff, so until it was being ragged flat out downhill some of the suspension would hardly be used!!

Don’t have a hosting site, but if you have an email address I can send some!
Spec is Five frame , xt cranks. Hope BB, Burgtec carbon bars , hope brakes 160 rotors , hope stem head set and hubs,
Stans Crests hand built , tubeless nobby on rear damf on front. 10 speed with 32 thick thin cog, khs dropper post , flight saddle. 27.5 lbs plus pedals usually flats, occasionally xt clips.

I can get away with light rims (hand built) as try to not ride into things but hop over then or choose better lines!!
    It’s a fast bike!!

It’s slicker fitter and quicker than the 26 version, mainly due to geometry. Slacker , lower BB longer front centre.
Mine running 10 speed single drive ring without pedals is 27 .5 lbs Stans tubeless , dropper post carbon bars !

Springers do have recorded problems with hypoglycaemia particularly working dogs.
Male dogs at 3 yo are a common age to start idiopathic epilepsy .
Brain tumour would be less common at this age of dog
    Heart/.respiratory condition can present similarly
Video footage of an episode would help. As the difficulty is determining the difference between seizures and collapse/ fainting
So the work up for these dogs can be quite tricky and may if neurological go right up to MRI scan.

    Would agree with Wi
I have changed from 2010 five to 2014 650 five irrespective of wheel size the new five is a slicker and fitter bike. If you couldn’t tell the difference, choose a different sport!!

Release pressure in left hand leg, undo six sided alloy fitting on top of leg, pour in 5 – 10 ml fox float fluid reassemble and inflate to suit ( I weigh 73 kg and have around 90 psi)
