    Loved it.

A few bitch cranks and a loooong intro but otherwise the best thing I’ve seen in ages. As above would love to know where it was shot.

I met a girl on Monday, took her for a drink on Tuesday. Never heard from her again.

So long as you were able to chill on Sunday that’s all that matters.

Tip number one: never ever call it “jogging”.

Thanks for all the jogging tips!

sounds like a good jogging idea

    Like your style!

For stretches I use the ones from the Insanity training DVDs (just fast forward to the stretching bit). Will try to find a link for you

Be interesting to see if he can beat Richard Sterry’s record for the triple – around 37 hours I think it was?

    Edit: 37hrs and 4mins

Hi Mark, Rob has to open gates himself…. but I’m sure he will be appreciate encouragement and a friendly gesture

Wish I was around to ride along with him. Would be awesome having someone else open all those gates for a change!

@caspian – how do you actually get on/off the bike with a kid in that rear seat?

Is there a nack to it?

Not sure about fitness gains but this is enough to have your eyes pop out riding up the slightest incline

You jest but if you donate to Shelter or The Trussle Trust you get exactly that from both of them

I give to Shelter already but beyond a generic newsletter with the odd ‘case study’ I have no idea who the funds go to.

For only £8 a month you could feed the Surry family and recieve a magazine with regular updates.

    See above.

Does Kazakhatan have a welfare system?

Not a very good one. Income tax is flat at 10%. VAT is 12%. This plus a history of famines has probably helped people take wealth redistribution into their own hands. I was pretty inspired by it anyway.

    Some interesting attitudes.

On a train in Kazakhstan a few months back I was trying to explain that in the UK wider families (non-immediate) do not often share their wealth. The local woman I was talking to was absolutely baffled by this. Seems that families in this part of the world always spread their money around – i.e. if you have a rich uncle he will support your parents, you and your siblings.

Conversely I have an uncle in the Rich List and you’d be lucky to get a tin of beans out of him if you fell on your arse.

Seems from some of the comments that there is a lack of trust. Why doesn’t a scheme exist online or elsewhere (correct me if one does) whereby rich/willing & also struggling families register and ‘marry up’ i.e. help each other out directly? If I had a few quid I would happily sponsor a struggling family on the basis of regular visits.

    Same as Julians.

In the past ten years I’ve had two contracts end on zero notice. With kids it’s scary, you feel like you are letting them down. Both times three months no work. But both times a better contract came along with better people in a better location.

I dreamed of doing this on my bmx 20 years back, but up the front of the lambo with it moving towards the bike so as to get some height. Funnily enough never came to fruition.

Then five years back I bought a 911 which my drunk cousin rear ended within half an hour of ownership using my other car.

    Thought police.

£210/month on electricity my wife admitted recently when a £1,800 bill showed up.
I must’ve been drunk when she conned me into buying an electric Aga.

Next time I will just fry eggs on the bonnet of a V8 petrol Discovery idling in the garden – would make more financial sense

Pain is on the top inside corner of my kneecap, when pressed, especially when bent. There’s no swelling and it’s not hot. It feels like I’ve clonked it on something hard, but I havent.

These were my exact symptoms two weeks ago after an aggressive ride way longer than I was used to. Since then been working abroad (hence not riding) but a combination of rest, glucosamine tablets, aspirin and ibuprofen meant it is now plainless and yesterday I ran 10k on it without any pain.

Were I in your position I would take the train for a week’s worth of the predicted journey, take 3-4 days’ rest somewhere interesting, take the meds and start again slowly with a different saddle position. Again, not an expert by any means.

    Good luck!

I am back to commuting every day by bike (not far, but 4 miles each way, for 8 miles total).

    You are almost certainly:
    – Commuting via the shortest route possible
    – Finding that the worst part of commuting is the faff of getting ready and un-ready at the other end.

Therefore, if time / kids / wife / work allow, why not turn the commute into a longer ride?

    Or run it!

Never tried it so shouldn’t really be posting, but the last party we had I swapped out Veuve Clicquot champagne for White Lightening extra strength cider and no-one noticed. Poured the drinks into champagne glasses in the kitchen.

Not sure what that says about my friends. Or me for that matter.

    Thanks – that explains it!

For comparison, my Bestinvest ISA returned 7.8% last year. OP could do a lot worse than Fundsmith, then. Particularly as they are not that exposed to the ‘toppy’ FTSE 100 (see chart a few posts above)

Fundsmith really does look good – thanks Surfer for the tip. But funny how they don’t let you see their performance data prior to 2010. Assume they made a boo boo

I work with Americans / Canadians and they cannot believe we have such holes in our laws, despite having one of the oldest legal systems in the world.

My brother has been gazumped four times in a row. He’s a commercial lawyer so you’d think he’d be savvy enough to come up with some sort of sale execution bond/agreement in parallel (as mentioned above) but no, just more renting and a lot of bitching and moaning, understandably

Really 4 times in one go? Of the SDW?

Edit: just googled your name, I’ll take that as a yes! Good luck!

The final chapter of Richard Sterry’s SDW triple book suggests a quad attempt might be the craziest thing since a crazy thing

Don’t underestimate the downhills! Sounds stupid but a totally different set of muscles and can mess you up (cause damage) if not prepared. Someone off here recommended the Mike Stroud book (Survival of the Fittest) which had practically half a chapter on it. In short he came a cropper due to the downhills.

Hence a loop may be far more beneficial than a stair trainer in a gym.

100mm FS 29er such as the original Tallboy or a Krampus

Smugly enough I have both and live on the south downs way. Unfortunately I’m either at home changing a nappy or working away so have not had the luxury of having to choose between them for the task. Can I give you an answer in 2018?

    Not a rigid single speed……..again.
A rigid singlespeed with 29+ tyres….I learnt my lesson.

Rorscasch (sic) my dyslexia is too acute to process this properly but I take it you mean 29+ would be desirable as opposed to whatever you had a go with the first time?
