it took all of 5 mins and involved unscrewing top caps draining oil and re filling with a tad heavier oil but at less volume, they feel lush now.

i would start off buying cheap deals from friendly folk on the classifieds and making a killing selling them on e bay.. works for a few people on here… 😉

on the plus side the ssc cups are designed so you can easily drift the bearings out so when they do go (and IME about 4 rides) they’re easy to replace

ive got hayes rotors shitmano brakes, same wit avid brakes never had any problems tis only a piece of metal the brakes wont know the difference between brands..!

yeah i was thinking along those lines as the axle length was same as mine at 144mm, and its an old 2nd hand frame 😕

why would you want to face a BB, then fit plastic spacers which distort upon tightening also the bb shell is threaded so facing wouldn’t really be of much benefit as the cups will follow the angle of the thread not the form of the outside of the cups??

headsets are a different matter though ive never had any faced and have never ever had a problem with sets wearing out quickly etc etc.

the SSC cups were indeed a p.o.p to drift out, it makes you wonder why shimano have designed their cups to be a PITA to remove/reinstall bearings eh 😉

my aunt is one of the top five mid-wives in the UK

as an allied health professional i wasn’t aware of any league tables within the professions, i wonder where i’d come in? certainly i hope within the top 5!!!

and FWIW the NHS has provided me with excellent facilities for both my children’s births, 1st rate, and i’m pretty damn sure my 1st born wouldn’t be sound asleep upstairs now without there dedication and bloody hard work/professionalism.

ah i have some ‘barely used’ SSC BB bearings which need replacing 😡 i may drift them out tonight see how i go..
the BETD tool is sounding good atm.

fagus cheers i placed an order for bearings online, im ringing them in the morning to discuss this,
Gaz, im confused to how you drift them out with the 21mm socket as the internal diameter of the bearing cup is the same as the inner race of the bearing meaning you can’t drift or press it out..? which cups were you using?

if they are £25 then im buying one!! sweet will ring them in the morning. im a happy chappy 😀
