i hear you on the mudguards look shite but around 2 months ago i fitted one to my xc bike for the 1st time ever and did a truly torrential ride around, i am now a convert and have them on most of my bikes, i can live with it looking crap for the comfy side of the ride.

i have both, imo the rothan has the edge on quality and as far as learning to ride on is better. regardless of which one you choose they will have fun on anything that you give them….they are kids after all!!
so its down to personal pref and resale value vfm etc etc.

but if it were me it'd be the rothan

i've had one for around 2 weeks, loving it so much i can't see my geared bikes getting much of a look in for a while.

for me, its a quick check to see if any other links are twisted then fit a power link then forget about it.

+1 for spesh captains, i have them on both my xc bikes now and although they dont excel in any one area they are great all rounders wiht predictable grip and reasonable rolling resistance.
mud x's are ok too but i rip the sidewalls from them too easily.

i had them on an old xc bike of mine

and they were terrible, just lost traction without warning and i ended up just binning them as they made me too cautious when riding, on the plus side they last an age!!

sorry if this is hijacking slightly but also i was thinking about (going back to my uni days) any amount of regular cycling affecting the body due the changes to the pelvis during pregnancy i.e unstable pelvic joints under the influence of pregnancy hormones and changes in the centre of gravity creating pain or discomfort.
my mrs swam a mile quite frequently almost right up to giving birth to our 1st but wasn't really into cycling so have no experience of it…i take it you as of yet suffer no ill effects from cycling?

i have an inbred and 456.. if you are worried about bb height i hardly ever (read can't even remember) hitting my pedals on anything because of low bb.
for me and for the price the inbred rules in twisty singletrack, have not ridden a charge to compare.

i'd ask your GP. esp if you are going to raise your heart rate excessively.

115mm the shortest they would go, it seemed really nice in the twisty singletrack today, much more agile than my 456 ever was through it.

speaking as a private practitioner and obviously without seeing any of you custom orthotics should be last resort for PF IMHO + experience.
as stated before i very very very very rarely need to resort to my patients forking out for custom orthotics as most off the shelf vasyli/orthaheel products will (and have) do the job just nice. esp when it comes to PF.
onza, be a bit wary about varus wedges in your cycling shoes, adding/removing degrees of varus under the forefoot (the area of loading when cycling) is vastly different to adding them to the rearfoot for when walking and could lead to joint pain (did he mention forefoot varus a bony fixed deformity or supinatus a soft issue correctable deformity, maybe try to increase the distance between the cleat and the bottom of the shoe by 4-5mm (plastic spacers/longer cleat bolts) thus keeping the perpendicular cleat to floor angle instead of using angled wedges….
