pleader, all original. didn’t check chain until too late so left it all to wear out at same rate…

@tod yes new cables and jockey wheels too….
it will start to add up…

hmm wonder if my hub is 11sp compatible…..new shiny stuff is ace!

i had a go on a mates demo 5 today in a large, my old 2012 5 was a medium, the large felt bang on for me at 5’9 / 10

Gawton and tavi woodlands are ace. Especially now jasper has finished his track 5 ‘rattler’
Triscombe on the quantocks is also amazing…
Haldon cheeky and cafe side ( if allowed ATM) are also well worth a trip but as mentioned you’ll require a guide to make the most out of that.
IMO red and blue trails at haldon are definitely not worth the drive…

mine was delivered a few days ago..Very pleased with quality and build, it looks like a lot of fun, sadly I wont get to ride it for a few days yet…
it feels spot on, a bit more roomy than my medium mega although the measurements from seat collar centre to stem cap bolt centre are exactly the same at 570mm…
I was expecting it to be lots bigger given the reviews but for me its spot on…..at 5’11 or 6′ id be be torn between the 2 sizes,

    @northern
tom if you mail me then ill fire you a pic of my medium mega next to the strive to see if that helps you?

Am a shade under 5’10 and have ordered the medium race…
Unfortunately it’s been delayed by a month so far so not received it yet….I’ve a medium mega but feel I should be on a large…the dimensions are deceiving then?! I’m hoping the medium will be OK!!! If it’s not it’ll just get sent back…

@dk afaik cafe side is still off limits to mtb.

always wear one when I’m in a full face lid. It doesn’t give me a psychological boost but I’d like to prevent any rotational neck/spinal injuries if possible.

check out skates.co.uk loads there..dont get folding as they’re generally unstable and shite, price varies but you can get decent ones for around £70-£100. wider bars are better for control.
grit/sacrifice/mgp seem to be good brands according to my kids.

ah its steep but not scary stupid steep, all trails are flowy and good fun to ride..
definitely head to tavi woodlands if you can, loads of different trails there and the push/ride up is much easier so you can get more done in a day.
post up when your going, a few of us are there every sunday so would be happy to show you around tavi or ride with you at gawton

thanks ed, thats super helpful, I’m medical myself so happy with the woundcare side on humans but not had to do the dog before! If any hint of infection he’ll be off to the vets anyway..
at 11yrs old the rest thing isnt too hard but he is in pain whilst trying to stand on it so will get some pain relief for him tomorrow.
thanks for the reply its much appreciated

we use bravecto its very very good, lots of moorland walks means loads of ticks and frontline never really coped with it as i was always picking off massive ones which had obviously been gorging for ages…..with bravecto i have found loads of dead ones but none alive and none on him which is a vast improvement…

my strive estimated delivery was for yesterday..
no dispatch email so had to chase them, email response later that day said apologies “but it will be delayed by 1 week”….we’ll see about that..slightly worried it wont come given the amount of trouble they’ve had but unfortunately no other bikes really float my boat for the same price….

mines on a 14″ patriot with 24″ wheels…..just a tad too big but copes fine on the rough stuff

5’8″ puts you square in the middle of the medium race size which is more like a traditional ‘large’

mainly trails tbh but i have a 130mm mega and in some places i ride it is all over the place and I could do with a bit more travel and slacker angles…….plus it could double as my mrs alps bike

trail bike would probably be the better option and the spectral looks ace but i cant help wondering if 160mm slackness would be more ace

    ooh thats purdy….
just deciding between a spectral or strive atm…..dont know how much of a pig the strive will be for normal trail riding….

    Triscombe!
quite close to drive there and back
25 (ish) great trails all within a very small area all winch and plummet so you get maximum descending with no need for any route finding or boring slog across open moorland, just ride to the top find a trail and repeat until tired which for me is usually well within 6 hours! rides very well in the wet too..

yes id be looking at the match card with the 27 month 0% unfortunately not fee free for overseas purchases…..the extra would be just shy of £100.

    carlphillips

I’ve checked the post office card and they DO charge for overseas purchases not made in sterling….

so do canyon charge in euro or sterling? their prices are advertised in whatever currency you put them in so I’m at a loss to whether I’ll get the 0% or not….
