As above, you should be able to move the very end of the spacer tube to the side enough to allow purchase of a long punch to the bearing outer edge. It’ll be a tight fit but it only needs to be a mm or so.

Might be easier to try it on the end that is closest to the hub

I have done as Jon suggests before now and worked a treat but dont bother anymore as doing what Tracey suggests is so much easier and will defo last the lifetime of the tyre.

I now have a few mushroom plugs in the toolbox, just in case. Kwik fit were happy enough to hand a few over

If I only wash one thing after a shirty ride its the drive chain. Quick rinse off with the hose, squirt of Fenwicks foaming chain cleaner, run it through the chain cleaner tool, rub round with an old kitchen pot brush, rinse off, dry, lube ready for next time.

OP – If its as bad as it reads, soak it up with soapy water, scrub with old pot brush, then some sort of degreaser, more scrubbing and repeat till clean

Well thanks for all the tips and suggestions. I’ve now had the electronic copies of the documents, and whilst not exactly what I thought I’d get based on other documents I’ve seen, they are close enough.

Main document shows original drawings, approval stamps etc.. from 1896 of our house and next doors in front, side, rear elevations and birds eye plan. Then plan layout of each floor (except the cellar, which is only a strip anyway) It even includes the drain runs

Think I’ll be getting a bigger print and hang it up somewhere. Maybe on the landing at the front to take up a little wall space, of which there is plenty

Saw both the BA 747’s this morning out on their last flights from Heathrow. One was doing laps of and the other had just landed at Saint Athan Airport near Cardiff

I’ve got mine on the bars with a out front mount faced backwards as in the pic by Flashy, but it’s mounted so that the Garmin is directly over the stem cap and it sits central

@gobuchul If its the O-rings as used for the Garmin mount you’re after, I may have some I can pop in the post.

Post up on here if they are and I’ll have a look tonight

Mmm, I know she has normal wired ear phones and they are ok comfort wise, but they don’t have the noise cancelling. Can’t say she’s had issues with them falling out, and they have tips like the Pros do. She commutes by train whilst listening to music/podcasts etc.. so I guess the Pros will be miles better due to the noise cancellation.

Got a couple of weeks yet, so no rush/drama to get some ASAP

Well I contacted the Cheshire Archives and local studies. After my initial enquiry, they did the research for me and have dug up some plans, drawings and other documents on our property from 1896, which I guess is the year it was built as it fits in with what I found on the web and old maps.

I’ve ordered the documents via email attachments and I’m looking forward to seeing what my £4 delivers. If there is anything of interest I’ll buy proper paper copies.

    Fingers crossed

Standard loop for me is – park in Pooley Bridge, Up to The Cockpit past the lodges, on to High Street, follow High Street to Straits of Riggindale, Right past The Knott, Satura Cragg, Angel Tarn, Boredale Hause, Keep Right at The Disused Quarry and stay on the higher Bridleway to the Right of Silver Crag, drop to Ullswater Bridleway and go Right, Right at Sandwick and follow the lanes to Hause Farm, pick up Bridleway to Howtown and continue as it climbs back onto High Street back at The Cockpit, descend back to Pooley Bridge same way you 1st headed out.

Food at Granny Dowbekins Tea Rooms. (The Club Sandwich is awesome)

Just a couple of ideas with varying length and elevation assuming you have easy access to the Portwood end of Stockport –

Pear Hill Mill, Alan Newton way, Rose Hill Station, Middlewood Way to Higher Poynton, Cut up through Lyme Park via Hase Bank Wood to The Cage, Drop to the ticket office and head up Red Lane to Disley, Drop onto Strines Road via the Paper Mill, up towards Strines Station, Left along the track to The Roman Lakes, pick up Canal in Marple and follow to Chadkirk Chapel and then pick up Alan Newton Way back to Pear Hill Mill. 35km, 550m. Some cafes and pubs along the way to suit where you want to stop

Alan Newton Way to Chadkirk Chapel, pick up Canal and follow to Marple, Drop into The Roman Lakes and head to Strines Station, Pick up Strines Road to Hague Bar, Drop into Mousley Bottom Woods and head to Millennium Walkway at New Mills, Take FP106 up onto the Canal, Follow to Whaley Bridge and get train back. 21km, 400m. Whaley Bakery is worth a visit

Car or train to Whaley Bridge, seek out the Cromford and High Peak Railway and follow it to the South end of Fernilee reservoir in The Goyt, Cut across the dam and take the Fire Road back down the West side to Taxal, Wind back through Whaley Bridge past the Dam. Car or train back. 14km, 300m

Its likely to be in prep for a grab and go wagon. We used to do this quite a lot tbh, BUT it was always stockpiled on the customers driveway or property, whilst awaiting collection, certainly not on the road.

Skips have to have a permit to be on the roads, so I’d guess he’s cutting a few corners or hoping no one will notice.

You never know it might be gone later

Time for a different, competent bike shop if you’re not even sure the bearings are right.

Yup, best to start again from scratch and explain the saga so far to the next bike shop/mechanic

Hopefully at least you’ll not have been charged for any work attempted by the 1st LBS

Is there a local garage that you can speak to about fitting whatever sections you need, to the existing exhaust rather than a complete system?

I had a mk4 Golf GTI years ago and the local garage cut the back-box off and fitted an aftermarket one using a fabricated jointing pipe. Worked a treat and never had any issues. Eventually I went for CAT back and reused the back-box

    Thanks all.

We’ve got the deeds, A4 boundary document etc.. that the solicitor sorts as part of the purchase. I’ve also looked on the nls.uk map site (that’s how I’ve worked out rough build date) which is very interesting in itself.

Maybe plans isn’t the correct word, but blueprint seems a bit.. err.. new for a late 1800’s house.

The document I saw was framed, roughly A1, had front, rear and side elevations along with a floor plan for each floor inc cellar, even the drain runs were shown. It was all done in a sepia pallet with neat calligraphy text

Percy – Good shout about the Heritage Centre, there is one in macclesfield, but I think its more a museum. Defo not in the Attic

Richie – Our has a cant towards the rear from about 2/3rds down the right, so as it adjoins another property I was thinking it’d not be a pattern build. I’ll try the local history and records office if they are open

Zilog – Defo not stashed in the Attic or anywhere else

@oscillatewildly Had a measure up and even the C1 version looks like it’ll be tight so he’ll stick with a 150mm.

All good here. Shame about the forest and Goyt for sure, but could be a good thing and generate new stuff. Should be a bit quieter up there now as people can move/drive/ride elsewhere.

Hi Mate, Don’t think it helps but thanks;-) He has the conectamajic (sp) on his current Reverb and you have to allow 92mm for that when working out max insertion. I’m meeting him later so will go armed with a tape measure and have a look as his seat height is different to mine.

Off topic – How you doing? Been round the Forest much or have you embraced the flat lands?

Hi Mate, This is something I looked at briefly when I had my shock sent off for warranty by Rik, but decided that I’d see how things went without it. So far its all ok, but come service time I might take the plunge.

Shock currently feels ok most of the time, which I accept as I ride a very varied selection of trails, as you know. I might drop in and see Rik at some point to get more info off him

If you do get it done, I know you’ll do a decent write up about it, go on, you now you want it ;-)

Sweet video and tune. Some real nice riding on The Mynd, very much a winch and plummet kinda day but a rewarding one. There is an online map that you can print off and use to make a selection of loops. Minton Batch was running ace when we went last, but it looks like the campsite descent has washed out some. That’s one rut you do not want to be in at speed.

As jamj1974 says, its defo worth a bit of exploring as loads of other bits to ride.

Drove through Ambleside yesterday and out on the Grassmere Road. Places was very busy at 9:45am. Carparks busy everywhere, laybys pretty full, cars just parked up anywhere they can tbh on verges. Out over Grisdale Tarn, Patterdale Common, Boredale Hause, Glenridding (packed to tbe rafters), Kepple Cove, Helvellyn and birkside were all busy with walkers, runners but only saw 6 other mtb’ers. There was maybe 50+ at Helvellyn trig with people coming and going up all routes. Plenty sat there having picnics too.

Plenty of space fir everyone out on the hills, but very busy in tbe towns and villages

    I’d hammer in a torx

    This^^

Refit rear wheel and axle for support, lay bike on its side with an additional solid support directly under the axle, squarley tap in a slightly larger torx bit, put some good weight/pressure on it as you turn (remember – lefty loosey😉😉). Might also be worth pouring some boiling water on it just before you try to unscrew, which might soften any threadless

You’re lucky you got to speak to someone who can deal with your issue!!!

We’ve been invoiced incorrectly by Virgin, its more than doubled, but we’re on a fixed £24 ppm till March 2021. The Mrs has been trying for five weeks to get through to someone who can/will deal with it. No response to emails, live chat takes forever, she’s been cut off whilst being transferred numerous times on the phone, and has now sent a letter which has been received (signed/recorded) so will see if that prompts anything. In the meantime she has also cancelled the DD so they can’t take the payment, hoping that that will encourage someone to get in touch.

We’re happy with the service and even moving house in June was seamless, but we just can’t resolve the billing issue. Bit of a PITA tbh as don’t really want to be sourcing a new provider, but if it comes to that, so be it.

Well finally managed to get through to someone who wanted to help resolve our issue. Yeah it took 45 mins on the phone, but its all sorted. Back on £24 a month deal with applied rolling discount.

All it boiled down to was some numpty not applying the rolling discount to the account after the house move.

Thats the one only been up it carrying MTB but did ride up it on 250 enduro bike bit hard going.

Its ace descending West – East once you hit the rocky stuff and until the stream, then it gets tough climbing out. Think the best I’ve done is to the 3rd corner. Its either loose after the Enduro bikes have been up/down it or wet and slippy.

Just dug out the loop I did back in 2015, but prob not what you’re after as it was 52km and 1800m.

I remember it being a decent ride but not a lot of tech. Quite an out there feeling about it though even if you’re never to far away from places

Edit – Pretty much the two routes posted above

Called to cancel this morning and was offered the same deal as before at £26 for 18 months without any real haggling.

A plea to those of you who have had 1st gen cranks fail:

Would anyone like to sell me the Hope crank tools that came with them? The catch is you would have to post them to New Zealand (I’d cover the costs, obviously).

Hi Mate, Pretty sure I still have mine. Send me a private message with your email address on and I’ll have a look and send over a couple of pics. If I’ve still got them you can have them for postage but we can sort that out over email

Can you get different sized anchovies?

Had a 5mm ish slice puncture in a brand new maxxis and a normal anchovy wouldn’t fill it, plus it was on the edge of the tyre by the sideknobs so kept dislodging with impacts.

Get a tyre mushroom (I asked nicely at my local Kwik fit and the chap gave me several, and wouldn’t take anything for them) and forget you ever had an issue.

Just be sure to clean the inside of the tyre well to remove any sealant from the area you are patching. I tend to use a quick squirt of brake cleaner, leave to dry, apply glue till its tacky, add a bit of glue to the base of the mushroom, pull through firmly and press into place. Job done

Ah, gotcha. One with a threaded centre tube.

    Sorry can’t help with sizing, but I’d guess at 89.5 – 92mm
