    Happy Birthday.

Mmmm, tough call especially if from the Whaley Bake House.

I’ll go halves on one of each with some one. (now filtering off into a daydream of coffee and cake at the weekend)

    @razorrzzzo

Am planning to use the plastic grid base for ease so would be interested how many bags of pea gravel was required?

My 9×12 foot base at 2″ deep took just short of a tonne. (Prob 3/4 of a builders bag)

    Cheers all.

I’ve opted for 25mm rigid insulation and 11 Osb. I’ll get a smaller heater for the winter months to assist with comfort

Good point on the shelving. I had though of getting a rack system, but that’s a bit spendy

Raceface or Shimano XT would be my choice, they tick 3 of your wish list above. Superstar even go as low as a 26T direct mount 6mm offset chainring. You can run a Hope 24mm BB with either straight out of the box and replacement of bearings is easy enough, as you can with Uberbikes offering. Other 24mm BB’s are available too

Had Hope 30mm crankset and thought they were shite. Looked mint, but constantly had to adjust the preload, seemed over engineered, which I think has been addressed in the EVO (2nd versions) but my experience was enough to put me off them. Other issues reported in the originals, were the axle splitting at the end or snapping off iicr. Had Sram and whilst ok, wouldn’t go back.

Anyone use a strobe light as part of a deterrent and got any recommendations?

I’m thinking a proper trippy one that’s bright as ****, far end and pointing towards the door

Does the Reverb work in the fast return position??

If it does I’d try just a lever bleed to start with. Only takes 5 mins

Fair enough. I don’t know what body-type you have, @carlos, but I think I am about as average as they come, so that may have a bearing.

That’s a fair point. I’m 32″ waist, 30 inside leg, 39″ chest and 5’9″ so not a porker, lanky git or a midget. Could be there just isn’t the same give/stretch in the over shoulder straps as other brands.

One think I will say about FDX was that the exchange was super quick, no quibble and dead straight forward.

I would say to buy what you think you need, as opposed to sizing up or down

See, I’d say size up. Bought some winter bib tights off them in Med. Bit snug on the legs and lower half but fitted okay. However, the straps/braces whatever they’re called seemed very short and top half was tight getting them over the shoulders.

I went with Large and still fit nice on the lower half and much more comfortable on the top half.

Bloke at work bought some and he had to go XL to get the top half length. He’s about 6′ and thin as a rake. Bottom half feels a touch baggy but he’s happy enough.

Overall good decent and cheap kit. But ime sizing might be a bit out

Poss a silly question, but is the clamp fitted correctly?? (bolt across spilt in frame)

Can’t you just clean it and pour a self leveling screed?? Much easier and cleaner

Try screwfix or plumb base if you’ve a local one

alkathene pipe or MDPE fittings are what you need

If you can take a small piece of black pipe in with you to be sure what you’re buying fits what you have

    Hi Mate,
LOL, your like the Candyman (mention you 3 times and you pop up). I thought you left SC with selling the link, but obvs still on the HT.

Thanks for taking the time to write all that. I know you like what you like and know what your’re on about. Nice advantage as you’ve ridden with me so also know what I ride like too.

I’m torn tbh. Shock is due a service and this is the perfect time to have the TT done, but as I said in the 1st post, I do quite like the setup I currently have but would like to improve it a little across the board. I’ll give Rick a ring and have a chat with him about booking it in for a service anyway and ask him about the TT again.

Cheers mate and take it easy

    @oscillatewildly to the forum, maybe!

LOL, forgot Dave had his done. He had a Cascade too iirc but think he’s now moved away from SC

I’d consider the MegNeg as an alternative

Ah, should’ve said in the OP really. I’m already running a MegNeg and yes it improved the overall feel. Interested to see if the VTT is better again (apparently not according to Superfli)

Not had an issue per se. But I called them up to check stock of an item which was showing on their website (no one else showing stock). Guy was nice enough, confirmed it was in stock but would be 10-15 days delivery. I asked about collection as I’m only down the road, to which I got a very sharp and flat NO! Asked about collecting it from the shop instead. Again.. No!

He got a bit defensive when I queried if they actually had the item. It didn’t help when I asked even if it was going to take 10-15 days to arrive with me, could an employee actually lay his hands on it in the warehouse today.

In the end it was a NO from me.

I have one. Really like it. Maps are pretty good, battery life is decent. Other than maybe a slightly larger screen, can’t really say it is missing any major features.

However, I’d have preferred a touch screen as easier to navigate when in map mode

Based on what you are fitting on the rear, I’d say a 32 Oval NW up front would be a good match.

As said, there is a compromise one way or another (loose high gears and climbing ability or loose low gears and flat out speed). Only you will know what sort of riding you do and how each of the compromises will benefit/effect your rides. Then go for the size that suits your route/riding best

I used to use Shimano sp41 outer and a 1.1mm stainless steel inner.

I have a full sram nx groupset on a boost frame. I’ve broken one of the crank arms and don’t really want to buy a new one…

If its the NDS and you’re not to fussed about aesthetics and crank arms matching up. I’m pretty sure I have an alloy 175mm NDS Sram crank arm in the spares box after I moved to a RF set up. Post back if interested and I’ll have a look tonight when I get home.

Don’t think Sram list both parts. I’ve only ever seen the inner (nearest the spokes) part of the cage available. Happy to be proven wrong though.

What speed, cage length and spec mech is it?

It looks like it just lifts the calliper a few mm as per your last pic and you’ll use the standard Hope bolts to bolt direct through the calliper, mount and then into the frame

140 to 160 flat mount looks like its a Y mount according to Hope

As above I’ve used them before as prices were very keen. But now with Brexshit there will be VAT and extra handling costs that will make the prices less attractive, and likely more expensive than purchasing from a UK shop/retailer.

Pre Brexshit postage was a bit hit and miss. Some parcels arrived in a week, another would be 3 weeks. Only ever had one not turn up and it took almost 2 months to sort a refund.

    Is it an ebike?

Doesn’t look like there is a display unit on the bars

Not a museum, but a private car storage facility went up in Cheshire just before Christmas. Over 70 cars were in there, some quite rare and pricey

I’ve used the Sram PC 1110 chain for a few years now. I always tend to give the bike a rinse after riding and dry the chain on a rag, then wipe over with either an oily rag or apply lube. you will get a bit of Orange if you don’t do this and leave it a couple of days, as I’m sure you would with almost any chain. They seem to last ok, but at less than a tenner they get swapped out at .5 anyway and 150+km a week on the MTB in current conditions will surely wear whatever you have fitted.

I think they are a Nickle plate as they are quite Grey/dull

@ Carlos – did you read my post? I’ve been made redundant, supply teaching (plan b) non existent, plan c electrician training 95% complete but final assessment was due to start 5th jan. and was cancelled. so I’m not planning to change shop rates but need to charge something

Sorry must have missed all that. I answered your question which was “What would you expect to pay (labour only-not parts)

And took into account your reply

I’ve done the work – doing some bike maintenance for friends during Covid-aclypse given plans a, b, and c all stopped

Rock shox Sid (quite old), they weren’t fully seized, just totally dry
It’s a 2008 commencal of some sort. martin is a 60 year old machine (430 miles in 24 hours anyone? (In road obviously) and rides bikes into the ground.

Reckon it took me 4 to 5 hours, was thinking £100 plus parts

Sorry to hear things aren’t great for you at the minute, but the info about being made redundant, plans a, b and c etc…was not part of your original post. I hope things turn around for you as that situation could be any one of us.

So taking into account your situation etc… I think £100 is a bit light

I’ve done more than that for mates and been very happy with a few beers, biscuits, cake, lunch next time we rode or a simple “thanks pal, I really appreciate it”. They have skills i don’t, and I know i can always ask if I need assistance with what their skills cover.

If I was charging, I’d have been upfront with a cost, either fixed or hourly. Either way £100 seems fair mates rates

Yep, just laid one for a 10×7 shed. I leveled the area by eye first, then a quick check with the level. Once I was happy enough I laid a bit of stone, placed on the grid, leveled this all up again and filled in with 10mm gravel (I’ve got about 100kg left out of a 1 tonne bag and did an area of 9ftx12).

This is the one I used (8×6 off Amazon is £72)

Has anyone tried heated gloves for MTB ?

Not personally no. But three riding buddies have them and they think they’re ace. They even had to take them off last week as their hands were to hot, it was only -2 then I guess add a bit for windchill. Not 100% sure which they had but seem to remember Sealskins being mentioned
