Just about to send one off to them for repairs, so that’s great news, can I ask who you used as a courier

    @z1ppy
    – I used Royal mail next day. Insured upto £500 and I made sure they knew it was a bike light with a battery that cannot be removed. No issues and was just over £7

I’ve just had my almost 6 year old MaxXD repaired as the rear screen illumination had failed. The light still worked well and held excellent charge, so dego repair rather than replace.
Spoke to Matt, posted out to them Friday, another chat with Matt Tuesday recieved back with upgraded rear cap on Thursday.

Excellent service and very reasonable repair cost

Suppose it depends what you class as reasonable. We (12 of us) stayed at the Traquair Arms Hotel for a night which included a great breakfast. Very secure bike storage, lovely food, cold beer etc.. only slight issue was parking as their carpark was already busy when we rocked up, but there is plenty of on street spaces close by.

I’ve used Yellow Jersey and Dogtag before now. Fortunately I’ve not had to make a claim so cannot vouch for how good either actually are when it comes down to it.

The PPDS used to include insurance for the event. At least it did when one of our party was air lifted off the hillside a few years back.

    I just don’t see where it says to put oil in the manual when doing an air spring;

To change the air spring you need to remove the lowers. The oil that you need to add is for lubrication and is part of the refitting process for the lowers. See page 24, item 4

Following on from Sharkattack who has summed the E4’s up nicely, if you can’t be arsed or don’t have the skills Hope will rebuild them, replacing all the necessary parts for about £60

Long time since I had Sram brakes so can’t comment on how good/bad they are.

Probably going to be the wrong side of Kinder, but one of my fav walks starts at the Sportsman in Hayfield.
You head up past 20 Trees on The Snake Path to the Shooting Cabin, Drop Right towards Kinder Reservoir and head up William Clough. Turn Right at the top onto The Pennine Way, past The Kinder Downfall and round to Kinder Low. At the top of Jacobs Ladder go South and then South West over the Slabs to South Head. Straight over the top of Mount Famine and where the gate comes in on the left head straight on, along the ridge to pick up the top of the Campsite descent or down through the trees. Cross the River Sett back to the pub. Probably looking at 4-5 hours with a snack stop (10-11 miles).

You could park in Edale and head up The Pennine Way (Jacobs Ladder) and start the route from there turning Left to the top of Jacobs to pick up the slabs etc.. then lunch in The Sportsman, picking up the loop back as above but this would likely add another 8 miles

Also starting in Edale but no mid walk pub stop – Edale, Ringing Roger, Kinder Downfall and then back via Pennine Way, Jacobs Ladder, Upper Booth and into The Old Nags Head for a pint. Prob about another 10 miler

I had the Mac-allister one that Chrispy has posted up. I found the harness a waste of time and it felt unbalanced, also to much of a faff with the smaller hedges, so got rid and bought a standard one. Much lighter feel when using it, easier to handle and manoeuvre and cheaper.

Yes, I have to use a platform to get to the top of the highest hedge, but that’s sturdy and solid enough with the Mrs steadying it.

Unless you really need along one for tall hedges, imo a standard one is a better all round shout

I think what your describing is a rear mech protector/guard. Although not seen them on anything other the BSO’s

Ta, you’re not going to like reading this but Yeah it was good news for me. Had another x-ray and saw the consultant. Shirt off, reach over shoulder to touch my back and round the back to reach over to the otherwise. He had a good squeeze/feel of the area and commented how pleased he was with my mobility and the solid feel of the broken area. He basically told me the best thing moving forward was to carry on as I would before the break and itll get stronger again over time. I asked about physio and strengthening but was told that what he’d seen, if wasn’t necessary.

I had the sling on 24/7 for 3 weeks, then I started to take it off at work (desk jockey) so I could type with 2 hands. I wore it for walking about for another 2 weeks just to support the arm weight.

Doesn’t sound great for you though. Defo a good thing to have gone back to A&E, pity it wasn’t more productive for you, I’d prob feel a bit fobbed off too.

Got my 3rd appointment tomorrow after breaking the clavicle into 4 bits on 13th May.

I’ve been out on the mtb and road bike the last week or so but taking it easy (no dicking about, pulling on the bars etc..) and it feels good.

I did ask about surgery but was advised that it’ll heal ok without and at the last appointment (4 weeks ago) they were happy with the healing progress. Don’t really want a plate unless I have to, but as I’ve not been in pain, just some discomfort in the early weeks I’m happy to let it heal naturally.

Each injury is slightly different, the aches I had were across from the base of my neck to the end of the shoulder, which I assume were the tendons/muscles recovering. Apparently when bones heal they also ache.

Yes, back in the day a claim via M&S who directed me to wheelies, who couldn’t supply a like for like on my custom build I asked for the cash option as per my policy.

Same here. 18 Bikes sorted out a like for like build cost, submitted that to M&S and was paid out in a couple of days. I was also offered assistance with repairing any damage that was caused to property during the theft.

Still with M&S but bike is now specified

That’s a lot to cough up, personally I’d hear bells ringing.

If its for materials tell him you’ll pay it once they are on site or pay the supplier direct. Last thing you want is him paying off his debt with the supplier with your cash!! If its labour then he can whistle (I don’t get paid in advance and I’d not be paying anyone in advance either).

Before sending them off I’d whip the lowers off and have a look at the lower part of the air shaft as I’m sure that RS print/etch in the size and if its a 650b or 29’er.

On mine its about 10mm from the bottom

They want “us” to make the first move.

Which is to stop riding the stuff that is currently there I guess?

Bust my left Clavicle 6 weeks ago today, if there is a plus to that I’m right handed.

I did a half decent job apparently as it broke into 4 bits, one of which was a bit pointy (upwards) but nothing that the consultant was too worried about, as the alignment wasn’t overlapping or out too much and assured me that natural healing as opposed to a plate was a better option for me.

I would say hang fire for a few more weeks if it looks like you have decent alignment. surgery is not always the best answer and comes with its own risks

^^^^ This is basically what the consultant said when I asked about surgery. She then went on to explain a little, but to be fair I was offered the full on consultation, which I declined (for now at least) I said if it doesn’t heal as you plan or I’m in pain then it’s an option I would like to discuss in more details.

So far, 4 weeks in a sling, then second lot of Xrays 2 weeks ago which look promising and I stopped using the sling then. I go back in another 2 weeks for another check up/Xray and I’m confident it’ll be ok as it’s not giving me any jip. Yeah, it still aches a bit but I’m not sure if that’s the healing or if its the injury and I’ve got a lump on my shoulder. Bruising has gone from dark purple to a lighter shade and the area is getting smaller.

I’m heading out on the bike for the 1st time tomorrow night, albeit along the canal for 10 miles and back again, defo no dickin about. Then I’ll see how I feel on Friday, as that will determine what/if I ride at the weekend.

    Healing vibes to all

I love the Beast. Cut off the top fireroad loop though, it’s pointless except for a fairly good view (turn off at waymarker 118- and go up the horrendous steep road. It’s horrible, but short, and takes you straight up to Gomez)

Or miss out most of the shirty steep road by keeping on the fire road and take the 1st left (marker 119) at the road go right then through the forest barrier, Gomez is about 200m up on the left

If you do not want to go down the zip tie method for now (It works great btw) just remove the pawl with the broken spring and run it with 3 till the new springs arrive

Well thanks for the recommendations for the Evoc Hip Pack Pro I got one and it’s great. I’ve not worn it on the bike yet (collar bone is still in 4 pieces) but I have used it for some hiking in Scotland and The Lakes.

Its super comfy, plenty of space for stuff, doesn’t bob about much like I thought it would when full, elastic hoops on the top allow a rolled up top/jkt to be easily carried, very well made and I can see it’ll be perfect for those short evening rides and maybe the odd long day epic.

    Thanks again

I too really can’t see that cleaning them with Fenwicks is the root of the issue. 🤔🤔

I remember 18 months back that a mate got his bike out of the garage after putting it away the night before and everything worked. Before the end of the road he only had one working brake (same symptoms as you).
They weren’t Saints but where Shimano

If yours are 5 years old, maybe they’ve just decided thats it and unfortunately failed both at the same time.. and it just happens to be convenient for you to point the finger at a brand of cleaner without any real evidence

Do they use the bleeding edge port thingy? Have you tried opening them both a little more and are they both engaged properly.

LOL, wait till you want a refund for something that hasn’t turned up!! I think it was best part of 3 months from the initial “where is my tyre?” which was prob two weeks after they claimed to have posted it.

I did order another one off them and that came within 7 days. Never saw any sign of the first one though and eventually got refunded.

Not helpful I know but point is they can be quite hit and miss

Ah, right. So, if it is a pucker footpath, they have to leave the gate unlocked?

Yes. Although the place is like a sieve if you don’t mind big stiles

As far as I’m aware the only gates that get locked are
Main Driveway gate on A6 (you need a code apparently)
The one leading onto Red Lane (left of the ticket office if coming into the park from the A6)
West Parkgate next to the lodge
    East Lodge

in the other direction, this track is ok through towards Whaley Bridge

We usually ride the FP above the that track and over from the school to The Dipping Stones. Not had any issues in prob 2 years, but then got caught by the farmer who lives at Cliff. He chased us up the field on his quad and went absolutely F’ing mental. We managed to calm the situation, but have given this FP a miss recently. Not sure I’d want to pass right by his house??

I have tried operating the second, newest shifter whilst applying tension by had (just the cable, no outer) and it worked fine. Refitted the shifter and back to square one.

Certainly reads like its the outer then, but as tthew says – Like a lot of these threads, there’s a lot of guess work and speculation without being able to see it, but sounds like you’ve eliminated the shifter as the source of the fault.

    carlos
    Free Member

    To rule out shifter issues,
Remove inner from the outer but leave it connected/threaded through the shifter.
Hold inner in left hand and pull to apply tension
    Operate shifter as normal
You should feel the inner getting pulled/released depending on which lever you’re operating.
If its all working as it should be, move the adjustable lever to where you want it and repeat the above
If its still OK change inners and outers

Just paid a company in Sandbach, Cheshire £2100 ish for a 10×8, 32mm flat plank, pitched felt roof on 20mm T&G and membrane lined shed/workshop. 1x single door and 2x windows. They put it up but I had to sort the base.
