Crikey. What a shame he couldnt have completed his ride and have a calm sense of satisfaction in the disapline and focus required to see it through and claim a new record.

monkey child.its a pointless exercise thinking disco pads are inferior.Tney are not.Its the same with superstar.Your pads wore so quick because of bedding in and then time of the year when sometimes conditions are such that pads barely last a 2hr ride if you are lucky especially in the surrey hills.

Always a subject that stirs alot of emotion.
Wax lubes run cleaner, way cleaner then your FL wet lubes but they are not user friendly in some areas. You need to apply the lube to a fully clean chain first off which is the case for any lube really.Once you`ve cleaned your chain a wax lube needs to dry first otherwise it work nearly as well. You will use more wax lube then a wet lube for sure but you wont be buying degreaser. If you ride epic rides in crappy conditions you could exhaust the capabilities of a wax lube, maybe 60 miles ish plus then its useless trying to apply a wax lube to a wet chain mid ride and expect it to work very well.
Conditions, application, area you ride all contribute to how a lube performs and are the reason opinions are so varied on this subject.Im managing to run a wax lube year round but im thinking a little about what im doing which you dont have to with a wet lube.I hate degreasing chains and i really feel ive got minimum wear from using a dry lube unlike a wet lube which is a grinding paste so giving thought to lubing the night before a ride has been worth it.

with any chainlube to form a proper opinion you would need to degrease your chain to start with.
Once you have done that and apply Squirt theres no further degresing.Ive ridden weekly since April in all weather and my chain and sprockets have zero gunk build up and i havent degreased.I havent ridden the miles like i did last year and no GDR races for me this year but im probably a good example of what most riders do on a regular basis.
Have a look at velo news and Travis browns leadville bike.Travis is a total convert to Squirt and runs the sticker without payment.

if you stop and think about what you are saying here and it is good advise it begs the question why would you spend money on chainlube only to wipe it off.Because it becomes a wet grinding paste attracting all the crap and turning everything black so why use those type of chainlubes.

Im biased because i believe so much in this product that i help promote it and i hate degresing chains.I would rather be riding.

try Squirt chainlube,no degreasing, last, runs dry and clean and you dont have to wipe any off.

smart move.Mate and me last year looked on in envy all those with partners in tow.Trying to seperate wet clothes from dry in one large kit bag all week was a nightmare.Part of the fun though ;-)

If you like strong coffee bring your own plunger and beans.I really missed decent coffee last year.
Failing that come and see the guys from Squirt lube for a caffeine kick in the morning.

totally biased opinion from me regards Squirt.spent the entire winter riding with just about every lube on the market place because i had to.Some good, some awful.
finish line green top or rock n roll in my opinion offer the best performance for longegivity but they get real gunky and require alot of degreasing to keep the chain clean.
For a new take on dry wax based lubes try Squirt
