Muckynutz bender fender for the front works really well and keeps the forks seals clean…can’t recommend one of these enough!!! when it’s really bad for the rear end I use a Top peak guard fitted to the seatpost…

If the budget will stretch to it.. an unmolested Mk2 Golf late 80’s early 90’s.. they’re not exspensive to buy and you can get classic insurance on them… fit 5 people inside or a bike and a hoot to drive or storm up the motorway, A road, track day, family outing etc….

This was it’s first ride… I have Coil Sektors and have found them to be just right..first time using Rockshox. I did end up using a HOPE head Doctor as the Star fangled nut thingy wouldn’t tighten enough and constantly had play in the headset.. Otherwise spot on

I either pretend I’m crazy and keep saying “hello” half way though their sentance, or if the radio is on say I’m just putting you on hold” and leave the receiver by the radio….

I sell and support the computers that garages use to fix your over complicated technical nightmares of cars, trucks, bikes, tractors even jet skis…. Interesting and frustrating and why I love bikes, cos they’re simple compared to cars…

Feel for you mate… had some very serious stuff to deal with 4 odd years ago , thought it was never going to end… keep riding that bike and walking the dog tho’ best un-stressing medicine you can have…. the other thing i learnt was who my mates were and who I could trust to unload my problems to… it does get better in the end.

You don’t need a long cage as you won’t be running a big ring on the front…

I have kept my 9 speed front rings and used a 10 speed cassette and rear mech & 10 speed shifter on my hard tail with no probs at all… ended up using a KMC 10 speed chain which runs really sweet.

Have used both RRP and the Bender fender….. Both work really well, but the Bender fender is great at keeping cr@p out of the fork seals.

I have found a really good bike shop near to where i work, he’s a mountain biker and has some really nice stuff in the shop… I don’t mind buying from them and have possibly paid a little more than I could have online. I think it’s important to support a small business and build a relationship with someone who could really help you out when your pride and joy is behaving strangely… it’s that or Halfords!

+1 perthmtb re:routing the chain around the RD

I’ve done this and riden along side people who have done the same..it is very easy to do especially when the bike is upside down when putting the chain on… FWIW I am running 10 speed SLX cassette but with a KMC chain and it’s fine.

I have a 2010 20″ frame with an SLX double and bash 36/22.. it works fine ,a little tight for room but I’ve never had an issue with it catching the frame.

Where we ride it is sometimes necessary to ride on some footpaths to connect up bridleways and other routes… If it’s a busy Sunday then we know which routes to stay away from to avoid too much contact with walkers and hikers. there also no point reacting to someone tutting or moaning at you ,it just spoils your ride…. I always try and say thanks and be polite to any walkers we come across, if they don’t like it that’s there problem and we’re long gone!
