On One do chain tugs for £10 each , these work really well for tensioning up the rear wheel. It’s what I use.
    On One chain tug thingy

Maiden ride with solid fork update:……..

Having riden bikes with forks since they had elastomers in them, this was quite a change but found the experience really very good. Nice direct positioning of the bike despite having big wheels (first 29er too) and the shocking to the wrists wasn’t too bad , you just need to pick your lines and lift the front wheel to skip over anything that looks solid and rooty. Only close one was going too quick into a narrowish gully and being bounced around where suspension would have soaked up the pounding and kept more control.

It’s still horses for courses and wouldn’t really want to ride this bike around Afan W2 or too much steep fast stuff , will leave that to the FS but for XC mileage eating it was fantastic.

Here’s mine, with White Brothers carbons on the front. Ended up being a very light bike for not silly money, maiden ride tomorrow!.

Will find out tomorrow… Maiden (proper) ride of my 29er single speed with carbon forks and tubeless tyres. Few of the other guys ride these and have found them fine, granted it’s XC and not leaping down mountains, but on the test rides I’ve been on they feel good.

I’m lucky and have found a really good LBS where I work, he gives me club discount, price matched a set of Flows rims he built up for me and when I needed a spare power link took one out of a new chain box until he got a replacement. I prefer to build bikes but have used him for everything else including clothing, spares, HOPE goodies etc… Bike shops who don’t care or give me poor service aren’t visited again.

Did it last year on a FS which was overkill TBH and the conditions were awful as everyone else has mentioned…. You will need Smidge, Brake pads and a sense of humour for some of those climbs. This year we’re back because we have unfinished business with this event after not finishing it last time. It is probably the hardest thing you’ll take part in and a proper challenge. The beers afterwards taste great too.

    Mk.2 Large frame

Love the brand and think Cy has created a great bike that is lovely to ride. Built this one from nearly all 2nd hand used parts, although have recently upgraded the wheels to ZTR Flows. 2×10 and 140mm fork works fine for me.

We use the Milk Man for our milk , not sure if it’s much better for the farmer but certainly for the environment as the bottles are re-used entirely.

We sell diagnostic equipment all over the world and have done for over 10 years, the only sales we have where customers mess us about is on ebay, not paying, ordering the wrong thing then leaving bad feedback because they chose the incorrect item, rather than pick up the phone and talk about it. Not all customers are bad though and as a buyer i have used ebay for bike kit and got some nice results but generally not a fan at all TBH plus it’s full of fakes.

Only regret is not doing it sooner..

    run 2×10 and 2×9 both 22/36 and 11-34.

Only time I run out of gears is the mad dash down the hill to the pub!

I’m just in the process of having my DT Swiss XR400’s replaced with ZTR Flows as the DT’s have flat spotted quite badly front and back. OTOH On my FS 5 I run Mavic 317 front and 521 rear and they have survived some serious abuse still run true and no dents.

Another pair of gloves…. I found after riding in the same pair for a couple of days the seams start to bite and the hands get sore, by having a different make/type of glove it resolved the problem and let me get on with riding…. oh and if your chalet has a bath radox too! or chuck it in the jacuzzi 😉

    Sorry but farting is funny….

After L2B off road, the pub in the village we were staying in was holding a wedding in the function room and we were sat in the lounge/bar area. So after a day of carbs/gels an indian and lots of ale the farting competition was getting out of hand to the point where they opened all the windows and doors in the pub and most of the guests had decided to vacate the area…. 😳 😆 still get reminded about that quite one regularly.

UKbikestore.co.uk are very good they supplied me with the bearing removal kit and bearings…. but their bearings are expensive compared to your local bearing supplier.
Check with HOPE which ones you need and shop around mate.

I got mine from LBS for £5 each the stainless ones have (RS) after the number.. I think your right drowning them at Dyfi might of finished them off mate.

I agree with you TJ. You can actually cause bearings to fail by over packing them with grease as they get too hot. more often than not new bearings failing early is due to damage when installing.

I’ve just done the same job on my Hope front and rear hubs, but left the freehub alone. Bearings wise were they stainless steel ones you fitted?

Did you use the proper drifts from hope to install the new bearings?

I suspect your installed bearings are goosed by the sound of your post.
