    More engineering maintenance dept. fun

The electrician who was working above the false ceiling and found a big bag full womens knickers and tights.

The cleaner who everyone was “having some fun” with and discovered the list of said frolicers written on the contractors toilet wall when she went to clean them for the first time !

The cheeky YTS lad who we hoisted up using the workshop crane with a broom shoved down the arms of his overalls, then used him as a target for anything that came to hand whilst sending him along the workshop at anything from 4-25 feet off the ground. He was covered in grease , swarf you name it.

The workshop idiot who wasn’t the brightest spark by any means who became the “safety officer” and burnt his hands and arms on a steam pipe.. there is a pic of him accepting his “safety officer certificate” which massive bandages on his arms and hands…

    @ Gunz

(ended up with him on all fours having a candle whipped out of his backside…
How on earth do you manage to ‘end up’ in that situation?)

Drunk pipefitters can be very persuasive!

We were building a pilot plant for a large pharmaceutical company and the guy turned up to perform the NDT X-Ray of the pipework welds. Upon getting out of his car on he banged his head on the boot lid and managed to knock himself out… So we rushed out and picked him up to find he was soaking wet from the waist down… as he came round his first words were “Oh bollox my bags burst”, he had a colostomy bag and had landed on it!!!! My how we laughed once the ambulance had taken him away… poor sod looked rather sheepish when he came back a week later.

One Xmas during the pipefitters ball we had a stripper in the local pub, who grabbed hold of the project manager (he wasn’t even supposed to be there) and ended up with him on all fours having a candle whipped out of his backside… that never got mentioned again (honest) I believe the picture is still on the pin board in said pub.. happy days!

+1 for Shimano MW81’s I’ve been using these for the last 2 months and can’t really fault them…

I started with a 9 speed chain and it was fine, once it’s stretched beyond hope get a SS chain from Charlie, much tougher and should last all season…
I use 2 chain tugs , 1 each side only because it makes lining the wheel up straight much easier if you have to remove it for maintenance or a puncture.
Welcome to Single speeding you’ll love it!

Great choice of bike mate, I waited for the rings to wear and then went 2 x9 (22/36)with a bash and chain device, no more chain clatter on the frame or dropped chains… Shorter stem and wider bars do make a difference too. The final expense was a dropper post, the new 5’s have a wider scope of seatposts available cos of the bigger diameter tube… Deciding which colour was the hardest decision initially… Enjoy your bike and post some pics.

I’ve found SPD’s work much more efficiently on SS , but it’s the only bike I’m clipped onto and does produce a laugh when you forget and stop without unclipping… 😳

Recently upgraded my Race Face BB on my SS after it lasted all of 4 months to a HOPE S/S BB… I’ve fitted them to all my bikes the longest serving one is 2 years old now and still spins lovely.. and it’s made by a chap on a computer in Lancashire!

Love the pub, don’t frequent our local one as often as we used to purely because of the cost, but our MTB club shirt is sponsored by a pub and the local brewery too!.. Most of our rides finish there and it’s like a HQ for us all to catch up and have a giggle.. It’s on the front of the Good Beer Guide this year and best of all it only serves drinks so no tables exclusively for diners just refreshing post ride giddyness 😆

I like my GD, mine is the classic version tho’ with the lever on the front of the post.

It just works , very simple design, nicely made and hasn’t gone wrong.

I gave it a bit of TLC after 12 months which took all of 15 minutes simply undo it , clean it and re-grease.

Really lovin’ mine , again first 29er singlespeed. Was given the frame when a mate upgraded to a Titanium version and have built it up with a carbon rigid fork. Nice and light and flies up hills especially when clipped in which was a new experience for me too. BTW there are 4 in our club 8)

I use both Hope and Shimano….

Hope’s do look fantastic with that lovely machined finish and mine have been uber reliable in all conditions, plus Hope’s back up and warranty for all their gear is superb if needed.

Shimano: recently bought a 2nd hand set of the older XT’s and they too are brill and do the job just not as pretty to look at.

I have recently upgraded to a smart phone too and got one of the Lifeproof cases which are water-proof and shock-proof… it seals the phone in a polycarbonate case and doesn’t make it overly bulky and you can still use the touchscreen… check them out Lifeproof phone cases[/url], a bit on the expensive side but if it saves your new phone from an early death, then it’s worth every penny.

Just come back from Afan and found the N/N worked great at speed on a variety of surfaces both front and rear, even better when I dropped the pressures a bit, I go by feel rather than using a gauge. Have been using them on the FS and the hardtail for a couple of years and have no complaints other than flints on our local trails love to cut through them, but that can happen to any tyre I spose.
