Nope Kevlar don’t squeal IME… I’ve used them a lot and found them to be a good middle ground between Organic and Sintered…

I will always enquire if someone needs assistance 9 out 10 times they’re ok… we came across 3 yoofs at Swinley the other weekend who had managed to rip the derailieur off and bugger the chain on one of their bikes and had no bike tools at all between them. Fortunately we did and split the chain and removed the dangler so they could at least coast and push back to the car park… we only let ourselves down when it came to trying to give them directions… they might still be trying to find their way out now !!! 😉

True mate and yes good point about spinning the wheels up especially if you are doing XC in the Alps and not all downhill bike park bashing.

No Mikewsmith, you misread my post mate, I’ve never had an issue with punctures using the dual ply and downhill tubes that’s why I recommended it..or go tubeless.

I’ve run an RP23 on my 5 for the last 2 trips to the Alps and it was fine , no worries at all… I’ve had the same thoughts as you as to whether to go down the coil route but will stick with the RP23 for this season too, the cost of the shock is the same as the weeks trip 😯
Regarding tyres I can highly recommend Maxxis Minion 2.5 tacky for the front and Maxxis Highroller 2.35 or 2.5 for the back. Oh and dual plys too you’ll ride over lots of rocks.
It’s also worth getting some downhill tubes unless you go tubeless.

I had the Fox , funnily enough i only looked at it the other day, it’s not very original, most parts were replaced either due to crashes or wearing out… but it is all there although I can’t find the Futaba controller anywhere…
A big gang of us used to meet after school and race them around sports bags on the tennis courts/playground, in the rain too with those funny bags you had to put over the motors to stop the water from destroying them and with torches strapped to them at night….. some very fond memories.. got into planes and gliders in the end.

    Great thread

If you are going to wear a helmet to protect your head , then it makes sense to wear some protection on other bits that tend to hit the floor in a OTB or even a slow speed off where you bump your knees and elbows…. the 661 d30 pads are really comfy and flexible… We’re due a week of Alps XC in the Summer and I’m taking my pads just in case I lose concentration or become complacent…

Oh by the way enjoy the Alps, it is an addictive place to ride you’ll love it.

I go into my mates office to discuss things of no importance and play him a tune.. then scarper whilst locking his office door.. he does retaliate but I’ve got him on smell every time.. we even echo test the bosses tea cup when he’s peed us all off. Farting is funny, sorry but it is.

Just had a bidder change his mind after winning an item, first one in ages… So I rang him after sending an invoice reminder (twice) and asked if he was going to pay for the item, he just dismissed me and said “nah i’ve changed my mind”… So if you get a bidder called jashans85 he is a 1st class time waster IME. I would love to be able to leave him negative feedback but can’t… Unpaid item case already opened.

Spent 4 years as an apprentice learning how not to strip threads and bugger up things…but for peace of mind and safety on certain parts of the bike it’s a bit of a no brainer. IMO

I had the same problem and after a hefty ride at Afan it was passing enough to actually drip down onto the frame… So performed a strip down, which is really easy just remember to let the pressure out or else you’ll be collecting parts from the neighbours gardens :D… Once cleaned and relubed it is better but still passes a little fluid.

I was concerned enough to contact Mojo who basically said if it is holding pressure then it’s not an issue, just a little messy.

Using a Superstar XCR mounted on the BB and it works a treat.
I had to use a washer to get the adjustment right and it was a little noisy at first but now it’s been used a bit it’s fine.

Love my 5 for big days out such as Afan , Alps trips and the Peaks, where it makes the riding enjoyable and i feel in control and don’t feel completely battered by the end of it.

For everything else such as local night rides and rides from the door ,20 milers, I tend to ride a SS hardtail which takes all the punishment and wear and tear.. leaving the 5 ready for bigger things.

With Ford TDCi’s the Turbos let go if you don’t service the car.. well change the oil at the very least.

The other thing to consider is that you might also have to replace the starter motor and the clutch too.. the fuel injectors on Fords also compensate for the DMF being out of synch so might need to re adjust which they will do them selves quite quickly… pain in the ass but worth it once it’s done, they are great motors… Oh and I’m pretty sure ECP don’t own LUK, Lucas they owned for about half a day before shutting down all their service centres.. 😯

Mojo technical basically said if it’s holding pressure then it’s not an issue, the constant over lubing of the seal although a bit messy won’t actually do any harm, 🙂 probably more good.

It holds pressure (195 psi)and has no other issues apart from this weeping of float fluid. I’m sure it is float fluid as it’s blue. It’s puzzling as the shock is such a simple design and the seals were replaced with new ones.
