I had a 2001 C5 as a company motor for 2 years, it was very comfy and enormous and had a few quirks such as the dash refusing to work and it winking at people with one light… prior to that a 205 diesel which was great until the heater matrix sprung a leak, which matched the leaking sunroof but it’s all character I s’pose.

I thought the French home market got discounts or subsidies for purchasing a home built motor .. or is that Le Urban Myth?

Hmmm some little darling decided to drag a stone down our car and most of them on our street, we’d only had it 2 months… one of the very rare occasions I’ve seen Mrs C cry… I’m not a violent person but i would have genuinely snapped the perps fingers off and shoved them down his/her throat…. we don’t park on our street now so it’s not en route to the pub local shop etc…

It’s difficult to pinpoint the defining point in the Alan Carr book but it changes the way you think about smoking and it worked for me 6 years ago. Although stupidly I relapsed last year and had one or 2 when pissed but never became hooked again I could just switch it on or off at will becoming a casual smoker having one with a pint or 6 when pissed…
After the lung cancer thread on here recently and a friend suffering the same fate it’s time to stop it for good so I’m re-reading the book.. I got it off ebay for £2 second hand.

You should read this book .. Allen Carr “The easy way to stop smoking” then you can stop with the e fags too…

Some of the below is subjective and may not be true but just my experience of Singlespeeding over the last 18 months.

You will learn to blow out of your arse,
You will ache in some funny places,
Your legs will look like a blur on occasions,
Gurning and swearing on climbs is normal,
Your upper body and legs will develop new bumps in them called muscles,
Girls could become pregnant when you ride past them,
Growing a beard will feel natural and be a good idea despite what the missus thinks,
You will be quicker than your friends with gears,
Real Ale will taste better after singlespeeding,
    You will get fitter!
You won’t want to ride much else.

VCDS will not re-flash an ECU… Only the VAS system that the dealers use has this ability and that would be downloaded from VW.

Pat at WR is hilarious , we had to pluck him from a trail when all I could see was the top of his crash hat… he isn’t slow by any means. Alex on that Orange 29er made everything look so easy , then it was your go 😯

The comfiest thing I’ve ever worn , heat wise it seems ok never felt over heated in it or the need to remove it to wring it out… Same as above if it becomes too hot for the Summer months then I’ll revert back to something more vented to suit.

To have more/total control over my working day.
Not to waste any more time than absolutely necessary on people I don’t like.(see number 2)

I have to disagree with the OP too, I use Hope 2 evo and non evo on my bikes and they have been very reliable, bearing changes after years and miles of abuse that’s all.. The Singlespeed hubs haven’t been open yet after 18 months and some 1800 miles.

No feel pretty chipper to be honest despite having a boss with a face like a slapped arse and she’s not speaking to me, who is going to be doing our pay (sorry) er reviews tomorrow with fark hall chance of anything to do with a pay rise involved in it for the 4th year… Then ‘cos we are so skint we are having our works doooo at lunch time ! the excitement is just not happening.

The best bit is it is actually Wednesday and I’m going to ride my bike with my mates tonight in the howling wind and have a larf. Then some beers at the end… now that does make me happy….

My hermes I’ve found to be the best for Handlebars… about £4-£5 iirc

Royal Mail small parcel signed for is about £2.70 +60p

I think the big small debate depends on the size of your hands and how close it is to you eyes…. 😛

An ex girlfriend of mine pinched her fingers in the car door so big brave boyfriend here took one look and went all “McMoonter” too… Everyone thought it was hilarious and it took her mind off her fingers whilst I was being scraped off the floor.

I’ve taken to servicing my Fox forks myself , it’s relatively easy so long as you take your time initially , switch your phone off and plan what you are going to do before starting… I found a work stand made life much easier but isn’t essential.. Go for it.

There is a very good book by Allen Carr ( no not the annoying one with glasses) it’s an easy read and gets into your head.. it changed the way I think about smoking, no patches or gum or e-fags just an easy way to quit.

These are PSA engines(Peugeot /Citroen)shared with lots of manufacturers and are known for going pop… Oil change at smaller intervals such as 6000 miles and make sure it’s the right type for your motor is the best advice, also let the engine cool properly after a hard run or high (for a diesel) revs and don’t thrash from cold.. but they are not a good engine for reliability to be honest.

    It ‘s not really a Singlespeed you have 3 speeds;
    Standing
    Sitting
    Stop.
The most challenging but also the best bike I’ve owned.

Try it if nothing else it wil make you fitter.

@Bamboo… The fork failure was with The White Room, they were brill about it, arranged a cab to collect the bike and we used one of the guides bikes (Iona) to finish the day. You can’t ask for a better service than that.
The forks had a defect and couldn’t have been foreseen by the guys and gals at WR and thankfully no one was hurt.

Take what you know… 140mm is fine for the Alps with some dual ply tyres fitted.
On our last trip some of the guys hired the rest took their own bikes.. I personally felt much happier on my own bike especially when we had a massive fork failure on one of the hire bikes…
    Recall anyone ?

You will die twice… once when the Mrs discovers that South Wales isn’t on the way from Southampton to Leeds and secondly pedalling up the fire road on the SX….

Personally I think your 456 will be spot on for the blues and reds and then the climb.

Although you can queue and pay for uplift on the day… which could bring the SX back into the equation ….
