Used to use Muc Off but wasn’t convinced it was very effective, so now use the hose to remove the big stuff, warm water and a little Auto Glym Car shampoo , rinse and leather dry. I’ve been using dry lubes for the last 18 months so chain degreasing is very rare nowadays but when required the old jar of petrol and a rag works a treat.

Mrs. C and I made the decision not long after we met that kids weren’t for us, we like the freedom, flexibility and lack of pressure in our life that children can have a massive influence upon. Some 10 years later it’s still the right decision as we are happy and have our dogs as our dependents which suits us. Having just turned 40 and Mrs C being 46 it’s unlikely to change so very interested in this thread and to see how Houns gets on as it’s been on my mind.
    +1 for Cougars post.

That does stink … I’d be surprised if flEbay do anything about it to be honest as it isn’t their problem and the seller doesn’t have a great deal of rights.. I’ve heard of this happening before with electrical items where the returned item isn’t the original one sent out and a faulty one returned. It is very difficult to prove.. Contact the shop even go and see them with some friends and make a fuss.

    LOL @ Tazzy

Ride SS for almost everything… have to make myself ride my geared bikes, just to stop the jollop in the tyres from going solid 😉

I take it you are pierced and tattoo’d all over Dan and what are you like at pulling faces and swearing on climbs??

I run bouncy forks on mine, 100mm with a lock out, as the lack of vision on bumpy night ride descents was a bit too much.
Steel frames work very well and 32:16 seems right for the Chilterns with an 18 for the back if we are visiting somewhere very hilly.
For tensioning I use a “tug nut” which sits in the rear horizontal drop out and means the wheel resets back in to the same position if the wheel is removed.
If you are stuck for bits or need advice Charlie the bikemonger is the man.
Great fun bike and very fast when you stamp on it, makes the ladies pants fall off as you ride past, makes you fitter and beer taste better.. 😀

    On One inbred 29er

Either buy the frame at £149 and build yourself from the classifieds (which means more for your money and it’s fun to build your own bike) or a complete bike from On one at £899.

EDIT .. doh beaten to it. er.. +1 for the inbred.

We were visiting the area a year or so ago when they were at the old shop, there was 6 of us who waited patiently for 30 mins or so for them to open only to be told “sorry I’m too busy you can’t come in, you’ll have to come back another time”… pretty poor show to be honest and not a good impression to new potential customers. ( It might of been the other Gooner by the sound of it)

Orange 5 with 140 or 160 forks and a set of DH tyres and you will be able to ride pretty much everything.. Really simple to maintain very tough and a very capable bike that makes descending easier than it should be. You will see plenty of them out there, you’ll discover why.

Can highly recommend Smidge, we were at Afan last year all sitting out in the evening and those who didn’t squirt the Smidge on them selves looked like they had caught the pox the next day… oh and it repels Mozzies too.

Currently running 750 with a 70mm stem, seems to feel pretty natural and works really well for me. Previous incarnations were 711 , then 720. I am 6ft 1″ though and it’s a 20″ frame.

Cracking day out.. have done it twice on a 140mm 5. If the weathers kind you will see some amazing scenery and get to sample the resorts of the PDS… Oh if you are feeling brave try the alternative marked Red route which takes you into Champery..
If the weather is poor then be prepared , we did it in lovely sun for half a day then cloud , rain , sleet with some sketchy downhills and being on the chairlifts in pea soup for the other half..

    It’s a full on day !!

We sold our 05 model with 167k on the clock having owned it since 9k for 7 years and it was still reliable if a little clattery, but I suspect the DMF was on its way out. Never let us down and I would have another one. Servicing was reasonable and all the economy figures the guys above are quoting are about right. We even towed with it, I’d be surprised if you don’t like it.
