I’m dreading this….my folks are in their early 80’s thankfully fit and well, but time is ticking away and we don’t live in a massive house for granny annexing or live that close to them to simply pop in. It will come down to me and Mrs C to look after them too as my sister is in Oz and my brother can’t even remember their birthdays or pick up the phone regularly.
They are pretty organised tho’ mum has discussed funerals and where the wills are and such like which is pretty surreal when it’s your mum chatting to you like discussing the weather or shopping. Whatever needs doing we will be there for them

We opened a mates tyre on a ride, due to a puncture and found the sloshing was actually just water and the latex had formed into a ball shaped object that was rattling around inside.

    Good idea though MTG

VW Touran is a good place to start, most will be diesels tho’ or at least seem to be on UK roads. Very flexible seating options as the rear ones can be removed , un-clipped or moved into various positions. We really like ours as it is so flexible and comfy easy to drive economical etc.

I’ve been using these for nearly a year having switched from CB’s and they have been superb. No real maintenance just fit and forget and keep clean (ish).. Regarding the platform it’s not too obtrusive and I haven’t clouted it on anything substantial, it is also handy just to get your foot onto the pedal before positioning the cleat securely. Compared to the standard version they just feel a bit more secure having that extra bit under your foot.

I suspect if the forks have been sat upright for 2 months and not moved then the foams and seals have dried out in the top of the legs meaning zero lubrication… but it still seems a bit extreme to wear out so quickly. Makes me wonder if they put any oil in during the service?

Our MTB Club is full of Inbreds..(the bikes ) Most of them are 29ers running Singlespeed but they are great, cheap, tough frames…

Have purchased and sold lots on here and thankfully obtained some cracking kit, dealt with some nice people and consequently recycled my unwanted parts/kit… as above all good advice.. Pinkbike is a strange one, the only place I’ve been messed about so very cautious on PB.

Someone is selling a set of rear Hope 2 bearings in the classifieds.

I think so long as you are upto 23kgs, you should be fine packing the box out with other stuff.. I locked mine and was never asked to open it, our experience with BA to Geneva last time was great but we made sure we got to check in early to ensure the bikes arrived at the same time as us.

er…. no with the battery connected to the car it will go flat, certainly on a modern car… be careful jump starting the car too it would be worth taking it off and charging it with a battery charger slowly to avoid damage to the cells.

Hmmm on the flipside you spend a lot of your life at work and if you aren’t enjoying it or getting much out of it and becoming bored or depressed then you are going to jump ship at some point anyway , or worse it could damage your home life. Regarding the travelling is it worth getting a small car (Peugeot 107 or such like) for certain days of the week when you are tired through lack of sleep etc….

Go for the interview anyway , travel the route and see what it’s like, get the interview experience then make a decision….after all(without sounding cruel) you might not get the job mate.

    That’s it done and dusted…. 😀

Quite painless really and not too awkward or uncomfortable.

A face to face chat with the bosses and colleagues individually and now it’s the count down to emptying the desk and offski. Thanks for the suggestions and replies.

Polite and professional option is the winner to be honest despite the temptation to vent a spleen or two. This really should have happened before but time flies and unless you are forced to do something it’s easier to just stay put and keep turning up… I have now got an opportunity to retrain and go back to the tools working locally and in an environment that isn’t the same office every day. I did vow to myself that was the last time I was going to be told “well done great job , oh sorry no pay rise this year” as they shake your hand 😡

The reasons for leaving are reasonably straight forward:

    Prospects for promotion — NIL
Payrises in the last 5 years despite hitting my targets — NIL
Training budget for staff — NIL
    Career development — NIL

The realisation that I am going to be doing the same thing as I have for the last 8 years possibly for the next 8 years — VERY HIGH
The boss telling us that there is no money for pay rises when they book holidays to St Lucia, pay for son and daughters new cars, driving lessons and insurance and university fees ,private regs on all of the company vehicles.
There is more but I can’t really divulge that…

I have got to get my timing right too… we are due a bonus the first sales bonus for 2 years!. If I quit before they cook the figures then my bonus will be a boiled sweet or something of similar value. It is pay day so I think an exchange of envelopes is called for…. I suppose I could just write I QUIT on mine.

I’ve promised myself to keep it professional and not go off on one.. but it’s tempting to blaze up the pitch fork and issue the hob nobs to my work colleagues.

Hurghada is just as bad to be honest, never been to Dahab but consider El Gouna as a resort to visit, much nicer cleaner and not a building site.

Nearly done this but without the bike, my faux pas was with our old camper van with the plastic pop top. We left the campsite, had a bite to eat came back to site quite late not realising they had pulled across a barrier to stop people nicking caravans… The noise of barrier hitting plastic roof and ripping off the skylight was pretty horrible and made a bit of a mess…. my how we laughed.

Love a beer or 3 but not when I’ve got to drive. Believe me if there is ever any doubt after an incident and you have had a beer you are already in the wrong, pissed or not.

Plug in a proper diagnostic tool that will work on a Ford PCM (Power Control Module) This will give you a fault code and description, then it will hopefully point you in the right direction of what the problem might be.

A GP friend of mine did his own blood test when he was feeling pretty pooped and a lack of go… turns out he had glandular fever, so it’s not just for teenagers then?.. might be worth a trip to the docs.

Had mine for 4 years now and still love it… If I had to reduce my bikes to 1 it would be the Orange that is the last standing. I like the fact that the same bike that I was hanging off the back of on sketchy steep Alpine descents will also happily do the local club xc ride with just a change of tyres. A doddle to maintain and look after and a hoot to ride downhill, if not the ultimate climbing machine but that’s what a hardtail is for.

I count myself lucky, I have a really good bike shop where I live and in the town that I work in. I try and use them for everything part related although I do most repairs/spanner work myself. Recently they price matched for some Hope brake bits and both of them offer club discount. If anyone is in the Bucks/Herts area and wants to know who they are then please msg me.

Poor service doesn’t deserve repeat business.

+1 for a 5 there have been some real bargains in the classifieds over the last few months. if you need a slacker version treat yourself to some off set bushes.

Enjoyed the venue as there was enough room to move around and actually have a good look at some of the bikes and stands. Nice atmosphere, bit of track cycling, beer and free stickers in hand. The South Pole expedition fat bike recumbant was pretty special.

I de-stickered my Flows after the advertising started looking a bit tatty and agree they look much better without.
