I was a radio plugger for about 15 yrs at Radio 1 & othearz etc virtually day. As already & correctly stated there is a playlist committee at R1 which involves head of music head of daytime executive producers producers & so on. To get a record on the playlist it has to be brought to the panel but there’s a lot of work that has to be done before that, the caveat being if the track in question is already by a global star & it’s a sure fire winner.
Different stations have different panels some are really small maybe 2/3 people sometimes just the HOM.
The only presenters that have totally freedom are late night specialists but even then they will only play what they feel fits in their remit or is good for them (except John Peel who truly could & did play what he wanted).
I crossed over into mainstream various specialists inc Roots Manuva Mark B & Blade Pendulum Benga Andy C Jurassic 5 Mos Def Shy FX etc etc the amount of work we had to do to convince DJs to play these artist was quite exhausting & really comprehensive. DJs won’t take a risk unless you convince them they will look cool & you need to lay all the foundations first. Then there’s the edit & the unwritten rules surrounding it – less than 3 minutes long & something has to ‘happen’ within 20 secs.
There’s also a huge pecking order with pluggers who gets access to what producers more frequently what relationships they have with them. Also a plunger that deals with mainly commercial music will never be employed to promote a ground up specialist act & vice versa.
This is still the case those has been significantly disrupted by Spotify & Apple Music etc.

Just returned from there & can only surmise that the driver has either just driven straight into them or sadly they’ve pulled out on the car from a small side road. When I parked there and then drove off looking right into oncoming traffic it’s slightly blind & a car was really quickly in my sight.

It really is just a 20 min drive away from me in Hughenden I’ll go up there tomorrow & lay some flowers. I can use ‘talking the kids & dog for a walk’ as an excuse which I really will do.

Shocking news RIP. I commute a very small section along of there from work in Marlow during winter when the trails are too bad but coming down Old Bullocks Farm or Chipps Hill then turn right on the A40 towards Wycombe. I can’t in my mind fathom out how this has happened unless the driver has pulled out on them from Old Dashwood Road as they are descending. So sad.

My own singular experience is I’ve never met anybody out of the UK that has said a bad word about us & if I’ve brought up instances or examples & they’ve usually replied with “we have people like that too”
I’ve come across a few misconceptions about us the strangest being from U.S. hip hop acts I would look after in the late 90’ – 2000’s. A group called People Under The Stairs genuinely believed the whole country stopped at 11am & drunk tea.
As for people from Scotland & Ireland thats a different story 😉

I took delivery of a Mason ISO a few weeks back & though I’ve nothing to compare it to (never ridden flared bars before etc) but I’ve had absolutely no problem shifting or braking using GRX on Ritchey Venture Max. Shifting is really smooth (mechanical) & I can single finger brake as well with plenty of stopping power. Running 1×11 FWIW.

Tickets to Super Saturday at the 2012 Olympics, obviously didn’t know it was going to be such an amazing event, had great seats too right on the finishing straight really close to the track.
The competition was to nominate people who should be recognised as an outstanding citizen of Newham (East London) & I won. It was for sporting achievements in spite of adversity raced a few 24’s done GB triathlon in spite of asthma setbacks & broken pelvis & other bones from being knocked off bike & also run a kids bike club at my kids local school In Forest Gate. The ground was thin for this type of stuff back then in Newham. Other people who won tickets were mainly involved in anti gang/youth work stuff.

As mrchrispy said also read, though this was a few yrs back now & I’m sure someone will be along pretty soon to correct me, that any power discrepancy between legs is so small it makes no difference to overall performance except at world tour sprinting levels. 🤷

I promo’d all his LPs on Big Dada & my wife was his press agent during that time. Went to the mercury music awards with him it was a real highlight to see a UK Hip Hop artist up in stage with the likes of Amy Whinehouse etc He was a real honest soul.
FWIW there was thread on here recently about the best DJs etc at the start of that film is Shortee Blitz he is who I mentioned as being one of the best DJs I’ve ever heard, he’s a real real nice guy. If you ever get the chance to hear him pls do.
    RIP Ty 🙁

Last used about 3 weeks ago – could be longer lost track of time tbh. I’ve had battery problems before in the winter when its sat still for a while but it’s never effected the ability to open the van but obviously there’s a first for everything.

everything is dead when I insert both keys no lights of any sort/glowplug etc. Neighbour is very good with vehicles & I know he’ll have everything to check the battery & start a process of elimination. FWIW & not sure what this says about the problem but the spare key isn’t electronic.

Not checked battery or fuses as the indicator light on the key fob is flashing red, hence my presumption it’s the fob also when it has been the battery the electronic fob still opens the van ?

Lee Perry at Reading sometime in the late 90s monumental waste of f**king time. Massive Attack at Finsbury Park similar year(love them to death) but so boring live quickly jumped across tents to see Aphex Twin & big dancing teddy bears.

The Sasha at The Hacienda thing is a bit of a myth, the main DJs there during 88-89 years were Pickering, Park, Jon Da Silva & on the odd occasion Laurent Garnier. There was also the legendary night that Colin Faver came up & played. Sasha really made his name later at Shelleys in Stoke.
There were 3 other Manchester DJs that never really get mentioned during that era that I’m sure by the sounds of it Rusty Spanner will remember – DJ Nipper, Jay Wearden & Steve Williams all played at the Thunderdome alongside The Spinmasters (808 State’s Darren & Andy).

Alex Knight & Dave Cawley still run Fat Cat records the label down in Brighton – Dave discovered Sigur Ros & Animal Collective, Lee Grainge got into films, John Reynolds became a postman last I heard & sadly James Dyer who went on to run J Saul Kane’s DC label passed about 3 yrs back to Cancer.

I’ve seen the Belleville 3 & Carl Craig, significantly better producers than DJs especially Carl Craig. If you’ve seen Jeff Mills you’ve nailed it IMHO. I managed to see virtually all of them inc Aux 88 & Drexciya during a secret night Fat Cat records put on in Camden before Kraftwerk did Tribal Gathering – they’d all come from Detroit to see them.

I used to warm up for Sasha at Oz in Blackpool & a good friend of mine was his manager during that whole era he was fantastic but so was that era.
Seen Russ Winstanley & many others from that era & pre ‘acid’ Colin Curtis Mike Shaft Ian Levine Chad Jackson Greg Wilson.
I was lucky enough to work in the industry from 89-mid 2000s inc doing the PR for DMC world finals for a number of years so seen Skratch Piklz X Men, Craze, Enforcers (Pogo Swift)etc.
Two of the best (club DJs) I’ve ever seen are Shortee Blitz & EZ their mixing & blending skills & control of an audience were insanely good. I’ve seen some awful DJs as well that had ‘reputations’
Andy C has to be seen but not sure if he’s using records anymore as well as DJ Hype & used to see Bukem at Speed @ all the Metalheadz lot @ the Blue Note.
Jeff Mills Claude Young Masters at Work Frankie Knuckles Danny Tenaglia Coldcut DJ Food all exceptional.
Never saw Funkmaster Flex but the DJs I wish I had seen are the obvious icons – Larry Leven @ the Paradise Garage, Ron Hardy @ The Music Box, Roy Thode Tom Moulton etc @ Fire Island & Daniele Baldeli @ Cosmic & Baia

Never worn Assos but worn plenty of Rapha, my experience of the Rapha Core is they are excellent shorts for the price but I found they lacked durability particularly the Lycra soon stared to thin.
I currently run 2 pairs of Cargo bib shorts which are amazing (not the core version) a pair of pro Team & during winter the thermal bib shorts, they’ve all been outstanding. I would suggest going the full hog with Rapha if you want the best out of them otherwise as suggested DHB are very good.

You don’t need a series to to set a scene surely Breaking Bad did in the first frame almost & The Wire was a slow burner for sure but the narrative was exceptional and you (or at least I did) felt like the characters were worth investing time into.
Better Call Saul was an exceptionally slow burner but the characters had depth not convinced about The Deuce which is a shame I thought it would be so much more NYC in the 70’s Times Sq Method Man Black Thought David Simon and the best it could muster was a brief head nod to The Loft & Mancuso & the Curtis Mayfield intro, which not sure about anybody else but “if there’s a hell below…’ I never once felt like any of the characters were gonna go.
Will watch season 2 though as yeah I hope I’m wrong and it is a huge build up to something awesome.

From the fact that it lacks any sense of real drama, lacks the grit, sense of danger & realism that was in The Wire. It shows glimpses of it then ponders off down a long dark tunnel of over stylised pontification and as for Maggie Gyllenhalls endless existential crisis… please

Had 800/810 & now 820. The main advantage I can see over the others is live Strava (which you don’t use) Bluetooth & WiFi connect & maps already installed & IQ apps which are a decent novelty but Touch screen is lousy & battery life is shocking never had longer than 4 hours on maps without it wanting to go into battery save mode.
