ok stupid question alert – why and whats the advantage ? I’m also on the ‘looks a bit e-bikey” regards aesthetics
carbonfiendFree MemberIts a bit old but makes very interesting reading
Here’s a website that shows rolling coverage of gun violence in Chicago – year to date 267 gun murders & so far in June 17 people shot & killed
carbonfiendFree MemberRapha – always thought it was overpriced & over styled (which it is) but damn is it really good kit & same with Apple products.
+1 to guns never understood them then went to Florida and shot AR15, Glocks & shotguuurns.carbonfiendFree MemberDidn’t think I had anything to add to this thread until today, finished work went to find the key to the van (T5 camper) which I’d put down on a table with wallet & phone or so I’d thought. That sinking feeling when you realise you can’t remember bringing it with you or locking the van. Get to the van amazing it was still there with the key in the ignition.
carbonfiendFree MemberSpoke to my dad apparently he’s been ill with dementia for some time ☹️
carbonfiendFree MemberShit RIP – a legend and dare I say a hero. I grew up with Ron Hill he was a friend of my dads & a competitor in business too as my dad had two running shops in the NW (Bolton & Wigan) at the time of his Running Wild era. Almost every race I did as a kid around Lancs (red rose XC league & countless fell & road races) he was there – I remember reading his book when I was about 12 it was such an inspiration.
He and my dad would ‘compete’ for the best space at races to set up their ‘shop stall’
Very sad.carbonfiendFree MemberThere’s a rabbit hole you can go down between 432hz & 440hz but I’m sure that both Spotify & Apple Music use 440HZ and there’s no option for 432hz 🤷♂️
carbonfiendFree MemberFor those who had unpleasant side effects from Astra & worried about 2nd jab. I was out for 3 weeks with first Astra & was worried about the same again on the 2nd jab but FWIW on my second jab I did have side effects but nowhere near as bad as first & they cleared up within 4/5 days.
carbonfiendFree MemberI live in Hughenden Valley – I used to commute to Beaconsfield I can show/tell you a way to get from Beaconsfield to miles & miles of trails – there are few small sections of road but once you get to where I am & Naphill/Walters Ash you can go all day. DM me.

Aquarian DreamcarbonfiendFree MemberDon’t forget Pidcock’s also won junior Roubaix, Baby Giro, junior TT world champs & he also’s won junior nationals on the track 😳 maybe that DH worlds doesn’t sound that far fetched 😂 😉
carbonfiendFree MemberWvA & Evenepool don’t race XCO. None of these riders in the current crop have ever done what he is doing – this is his first season as pro athlete in UCI road & XCO. WvA is a well established season UCI pro rider – look what Pidcock did at Amstel Gold in his very first attempt.
Maybe it’s me but in the decades I’ve been watching bike racing I’ve never seen anything like Pidcock 🤷♂️
Sunday was insane – some of those riders take years if ever to win an XCO WC race Pidcock just almost cruised to one on his second attempt and lost a spring classic by millimetres.carbonfiendFree MemberHe’s truly one of a kind – I thought MvDP was special with his all round ability but this guy is like something we’ve never seen before, he won the baby giro too.
Physiologically he’s like a small child but with the power of grown men and his efficiency must be off the scale, I can’t remember the name of the junior rider from some years back that had the highest VO2 max ever recorded but never made it as a WC pro & retired – it turned out that as he pushed to his highest levels the cost to his metabolic rate was too high maybe this is where Pidcock excels – his peak outputs don’t cost him as much as what it does the others 🤷♂️ either way he’s fantastic.carbonfiendFree MemberJust watched short course replay – no spoiler if anybody hasn’t but that was very tasty 👍
carbonfiendFree MemberI think MvDP is fully committed to XCO he’s stated this is his favourite discipline & Olympics are his objective – hasn’t he said its the TDF he’s doing for the team & publicity & he opted for his recent road campaign due to the non event of XCO in 2020. He won at Nove Mesto last time he dropped Nino on that technical climb.
I fully expect MvDP to take over the mantle from Nino in the not too distant future & think its Pidcock that will edge further to more road & probably huge success – though watching him last week it seems he’s got the potential to clean up everywhere – either way last week was awesome & I expect this coming Sunday to be exactly the same – War ! 😀
MvDP uses an SRM power meter on his Canyon Lux.carbonfiendFree Membergood event that was as well – they only did it that one year I think. I had a rear mech break half way round one lap had to run the rest back to the pits but luckily I had decided to bring a spare bike – trusted ol’ On One Scandal 😀 got me round the rest no problem.
carbonfiendFree MemberI don’t know the course but I’ve raced at Pippingford in about 2010 at the the Muc Off 8 hour – I can’t remember all the course but if memory serves me right it’s your standard endurance woodland terrain – some descent climbs as well.
carbonfiendFree MemberThere’s no Torq 12 this year unless something has changed over the last few weeks – I asked at the last Gorrick (torq breakout event) they can’t get the land apparently. ☹️
carbonfiendFree MemberHad my second Astra jab on Friday more of the same headache, overall fatigue & lethargy but less of a ‘feeling beaten up’ that I had after 1st jab and these haven’t been as instant gradually building up over the days in fact.
carbonfiendFree MemberNot sure if ‘won’ is the right way to describe it as I was nominated and chosen to get tickets for LDN olympic finals which turned out to be Super Saturday.
carbonfiendFree MemberWe have no means of controlling our thoughts and we don’t know where they come from or where they go. There are though meditation techniques that one can use to recognise what they are – transient – they don’t own us & we are not slaves to them just witness’s.
carbonfiendFree MemberXCO World Cup is on Red Bull TV (free app) The race in question last weekend was on Swiss chanel Swiss Sport TV.
carbonfiendFree MemberHopefully along with Evie Richards he’ll raise the profile of XCO racing as well.
carbonfiendFree MemberFrom what I understand – (told by my mate who been a roadie for eons) Pidcock is on his own agenda with his own coaching schedule, team and agenda at Ineos ?
carbonfiendFree MemberCompletely agree about the course but really excited about him racing XCO – Shurter Avencini MvDP Sarrou Fluekiger Cink Marrot & now him 😳 it all kicks off this weekend 👍
carbonfiendFree MemberAccepting freewill as an ‘illusion’ doesn’t absolved people of responsibility, it allows for greater understanding of deterministic factors. If somebody is a danger to society – they are a danger to society and we protect ourselves from those that wish to do harm. But it can allow for a greater and better understanding of our behaviour and in my eyes more compassion and empathy. We all fall foul of judging peoples behaviour on a daily basis yet we hardly stop to reflect what is the cause of that behaviour that so annoys us and what is causing us to behave in the way that might be of annoyance to others.
We will never really prove determinism and as been stated it conflicts with our understanding of the universe on a quantum level but we can use it to be more understanding and compassionate of each other – and god knows we if there’s every a time we need it’s now.carbonfiendFree MemberMy very rudimentary understanding is the answer to that question is we just don’t know and if it is yes (though we can’t really measure true randomness as it then wouldn’t be random) – it then tells us the universe is random.🤷♂️
carbonfiendFree Member👍 +1 for Sam Harris on this subject and on a slightly different tangent his wife’s book on consciousness is a fascinating read as well.
Scott Aaronson, Eric Weinstein, Max Tegmark Sir Roger Penrose Nick Bostrom and many many other rabbit holes to disappear down if you like this kind of topic – I do.carbonfiendFree Memberhopefully they can re launch that then and the YT channel like GNC becomes a platform for the paid more ‘quality driven’ content or just something you dip in & out of as you feel – sometimes its good sometimes its not so good 🤷♂️
FWIW – I don’t mind paying for content – my most used apps are behind paywalls and I’d pay for GCN if I didn’t already have EurosportcarbonfiendFree MemberThey are caught in a strange no mans land where they’ve built up the subscriptions & followers on YT but now need to move on as they are dependent on the paid promotions and ads which eventually diminishes quality (quantity becomes the driving force).
GCN has overcome this by creating the app that has paywall subscription & access to the Pro Tour Calendar and have worked out some sort of deal with Eurosport.
GMBN is really stuck here as all the MTB content (correct me if I’m wrong) is accessible via Redbull and they certainly don’t need GMBN to raise their profile or expand.
Until they can work out a way of building a paid subscription based platform with exclusive content then its more of the same.carbonfiendFree MemberI’ve got a Boardman sport/e youth frame that runs 700c wheel & I also have a set of Fulcrum CX5 wheels. The frame is rolling stock as it was my sons and I took off the original Shimano groupset that was on and upgraded it to Tiagra which I’ve now removed to switch to another bike. It still has the brakes and cranks but would need shifters & rear mech – its not disk though.
This isn’t the actual bike but its one of these

carbonfiendFree MemberI’ve just bought the latest TCR Advanced 0 and I have to say it’s probably the best bike Ive ever ridden. I went through all the reviews before hand of which there are plenty & they are exactly right. In respect to descending I live in Bucks very close to Whiteleaf hill which is rapid very steep short descent – the bike is so fast going down it took me by surprise but I gradually got used to and it’s no problem and handles the speed easily plus the disk brakes are amazing. The caveat to this though is that I would concur with those that have said confidence might be an issue as I was a very capable descender with top 10’s on Strava leader boards but last year I had a couple of spills one in winter (hit some ice on a descent but pretty slow & one high speed on a corner hitting loose gravel) both really hurt me and I know that they took an impact on me psychologically. I’ve also experienced a speed wobble and on deep rims (pre sram Zipp 404s) but also had gusts catch deep rims wheels – in my experience they are two separate issues.
carbonfiendFree MemberSay what you may about his image & rhetoric in the public eye but I tell you honestly he’s very genuine person with a huge giving heart and does work that I hope none of you will ever be in a place to appreciate or need.
carbonfiendFree MemberIt depends on the axle spline of the GRX crank – on my Mason ISO I have GRX 810 but an XT 8000 crank with a 4iiii PM.
carbonfiendFree MemberLooking at all that you’ve posted and the potential covid scenario and running aspect I’d suggest having a deep dive into the Phil Maffetone 180 formula.
carbonfiendFree MemberIs this the end of your biking ? One answer to that is no but are things going to change then yes. First the drugs you mention have no correlation let alone causal link to your diagnosis and as stated that is almost certainly smoking – so focus on what we know is the cause and effect here. Seek all the necessary help (and there’s plenty) to stop smoking. There are good outcomes for long term smoking cessation when using the tools and help provided and engaging positively with it (I’ve seen the data).
In relationship to biking – this is only going to benefit your cardio vascular health but the duration & intensity is something I would seek consolation with a health care professional who has expertise in this field (PNA & exercise) about.
Your mental health is the one area I would pay close attention to as well and there are areas that also have good outcomes here that you can explore including obviously exercise. I’ve seen you’ve asked to link up with someone with a similar diagnosis – community is one of the areas that gives positive benefits regards mental health.
This forum gets stick at times but its also a great place to reach out to with good people here and I’m sure if you carrying on doing that and working towards a positive outcome in spite of your diagnosis then there’s people and riding to help and still enjoy – good luck 👍carbonfiendFree MemberHe was out before he hit the ground with no attempt to break his fall – lucky it was only plastic that he hit his head on.
