It truly does depend on the fracture & where abouts, the pelvis is a big bone. I broke mine when knocked off bike about 10yrs ago but it was a fracture of the iliac crest which doesn’t really do much except give your hips the width. I was off the bike for about 10-12 weeks (suffered other injuries also) no hospitalisation etc just a crutch & pain killers.

I live in east London they are very strict with the policy here due to the ethnic diversity in LDN there started to be a serious problem with family visits to Poland Ukraine Russia Pakistan India Bangladesh Saudi etc etc. you get the idea so the education authority had to take serious approach also school places are a premium here

Actually on holiday now in lakes with my 4 kids I have to have them back by Monday when term starts that’s how it works.

I have never noticed the weight difference TBH but if this helps I am also gonna be building a 29 wheel set from JRA & I will uses ACs instead of 240s mainly due to price.

I have a set for about 3 yrs very light & fast but had to replace bearings on each twice no big deal but had a set of DT 240’s for over 6 yrs never had to replace bearing yet

I would also say 240’s roll faster

Came from running cx & fells round lancs red rose league as a kid & blagged my way to inter counties (fail). Did virtually whole of Barnsley marathon when I was 13 with my mum (waited down round from start & finished at same place). Was managing sub 40min 10k when doin triathlons later on.

Now just randomly & slowly plod along in the forest with the dog when I fancy a change & enjoy it so much better

Great thanx y’all basically from what everybody’s saying I will at the very least be able to find routes around there to ride the CX & get in some trails. Looks like my next stop is CRC to purchase a bucket full of inner tubes :-)

Unless of course a giant anthem “accidentally” finds its way heading north bound out of LDN with a family of 6 (and a dog)

I for one will miss it I liked its expanse & freedom in content from philosophy, history, illustration, photography to racing, materials & people. It didn’t try to tow any party line which is an element I love about MTB riding. I think it really tried to capture a spirit that runs through all of us regardless of what discipline of dirt we ride. Shame hope all involved moved on to better things & most of all keep riding

Got ACs on Olympic rims used them for over 3 yrs raced em all over done trials centres & lakes no problems. I weigh about 60kgs. My understanding of race 7000 though is they have a limited life 5000miles I think ? The hubs are ace though so u can always get new rims if they go.

Was great event bit of slog for me doing solo with no support. Highlight has to be the non Lycra wearing rider carrying some ‘extra timber’ trying to chase Matt hart through some singletrack – it didn’t last long & the girl from Canyon bikes 8O
Downside had to give it two riders both barrels in the banksy section who coz I was clearly a solo rider as dark approached also thought I had the ability to mind :(

Just returned took my eldest lad (11) on the north red route at whinlatter his first time on anything near as challenging & his first time on SPDs he handled no probs. had a couple of minor spills and a few rests on the long steep fire road climb but if your lad is older & more competent he will love it. Whinlatter also has a pretty cool blue route as well that’s well worth a ride. It’s a nice centre good cafe & other activities. Parking is expensive though.

If you do get the time seriously try & seek out & ride some of the HIgh St (roman road round ullswater) it’s an epic & so beautiful.
