Yep headaches were terrible. In fact the only way to get rid was to take more or go to sleep.

I remember dipping a cigarette in the stuff then smoking as if it was lit but not actually lighting it.

God knows what damage that has done I’ve only got a small twitch these days.

I sold my five recently and bought a Carbon456 with 150m revs.

Pocketed a grand in the process too which was nice.

Do i miss the five? no. Was the five faster than the c456? yes.

The five was very spicifically built for my local area 160mm forks and coil shock – this c456 is far more a jack of all trades at the moment.

I did it too well done it was blowy.

I use look keo classics they are lower middle range. You can get fancier or less fancy ones depending on budget.

You get a nice wide platform and they are lighter than shimano.

I have them combined with s-works road shoes and they are very comfy.

    I rode 6:09 which was disappointing as I wanted a sub6.

My advice go 100% road setup leave the MTB stuff for the MTB. You can get cheap ish pedals for £40 and cheap ish shimano shoes at £50

Aim for Tiagra 10spd as minimum.
Dont buy a triple as it will cost you a fair bit to ditch it later. Get a compact and MTFU.

A compact is hardly MTFU a double 53/39 is

When I said that I meant in terms of a beginner. I ride a 53/39 11-25 and did so on Lakeland loop. Is that MTFU enough for you?

sora is fairly pants – the thumb shifters are annoying.

105 is fairly bombproof, Ultegra just adds that extra bit of niceness.

CAAD10s are great loads of cat 4 racers use them for a reason.

    Thats your problem.

Irish_AL any pics of your setup

Sounds great for long xc rides and races

Mine is standard revs 150 and seems fine for red/black trail centres.

I will say thought its equally as noisy as the Orange five it replaced.

Im due to be in the office at 7 leaving home at 6 – quick BBM to the boss…. he says work from home.

As he sits pissed as a fart in town cos he cant get back home to Tynemouth. Well he probably could have got him if he hadnt made the decision to “go for one” whilst it passes. He is spending the night on a colleagues sofa.

Bonus… I get to clean my roadbike ready for the cyclone on Saturday.

    Nice Ares Stox.

I was very tempted to get one but in the end got this. A few errors in the pics with cranks not being in right position and the chain on the 39 ring. As pointed out earlier my Tomoato plant is on its last legs but my daughters little Bee windmill is doing grand.

    2 roads & 1 MTB

Downspecced my Five for a carbon456 and blasted the remaining cash on making a nicer roadbike.

Havent road the MTB in ages and not really missing it much if at all.

I have my c456 if i ever fancy a dabble again.

proud and smug in equal measure

Nah more smug by a 70:30 ratio

Lived here all my life – people at work ask me “have you never fancied moving elsewhere” er let me think? NO!

Id rather have less cash but a better quality of life anyday.

Your all more than welcome in all honesty – there is no other work here now so we are learning to embrace tourism. Just remember to not bring any of your city ways with you.

We dont do noisy or fast paced up here.

Went a few years ago the hotel was a very good standard, plenty snorkelling plus a quad bike thingy. Was ok came back said it was nice but wouldn’t go again. Now thinking about going again.

Bit sun, lie around pool and snorkelling in the October sounds ok to me at the moment.

I seem to remember there was a guy who set up a MTB guiding school – Priate MTB or something in the mountains (edit Hills) out the back of the resort.

    I’m 179cm and I’d be on a 56 specialized. Currently on a 58 cube but that’s just funny sizing it’s actually a 56cm TT and that’s what counts.

Sounds like you have gone a size too big imo. The store shouldn’t have sold you it really.

This is the problem when people by roadbikes coming from MTB where fit isn’t as important.

You could try a £130 bike fit and see if they can save you needing to spend more on another new bike. If you buy a new bike please go to somewhere decent with good experience of road bikes.

Heres a new angle for you, not saying its right or wrong but think about your son growing up with another man in his life, maybe calling him dad. Maybe getting wrong off that guy for doing something trivial, maybe pushed out from a possible new step family.

The thought of my 18 month old daughter calling another man daddy or him seeing her more than me or possibly him smacking/shouting her is enough to make me cry.

Stay where you are, get off STW and spend more time together doing simple things like walks on beaches etc. Ditch the meal save the cash but maybe treat her to a night of you cooking something special. Set the table put a candle on etc etc

She probably feels bad enough as it is. Remember the wedding vows in most cases its easier to give in and walk, the hard part is to stand there accept her minor faults stay for your family.

Agree on MTB riding, I rode local woods 3 times a week always thought I was fit.. I then bought a road bike and rodethat 3 times a week instead, about the same amount of time as an average MTB ride but from my door instead of using the car meaning I could get about an additional hour in per ride.

    Was 15st now 11 in a year.

Still eat tons but I’m now doing loads more road than I ever did MTB.

I just can’t buy high viz for roading although that yellowy coloured Rapha jacket looks nice.

High viz screams sports direct even though I know it makes sense.

Dont talk to me about inlaws… ok ok im gona have a rant

They sit in the house all weekend, never venturing anywhere, i mean anywhere. Come rain or shine they sit indoors with the fire on. 25degreess outside they will have the fire on, and jeremy kyle.

They wont buy a car so they cant get anywhere except on busses which does my head in since there is only 1 per hour and city is nearly 2 hrs away. He refuses to get a car as there is no need apparently, “you can give us a lift he says”! He uses his dole waller connections as taxis paying people £5 here and there to take them shopping as real taxis are too expensive – I kid you not doesnt stop him going to club every night and spending £10-£15 there.

They constantly tell us how good their other grandkid is even though he is retarded and cant speak at 6, still wears nappies and is having behavioural issue.

He gets my wife to do his all xmas shopping for his Mrs and gives her money back in february, not in advance like you would expect, i tried to stop it but it all kicked off with the wife so gave up.

They have their tea at 4pm everyday, and its the same thing every mon, tues etc etc. So a thursday is always frozen pie from the freezer shop night. No vegtables, just pie, microwaved.

We were getting our kitchen done so they offerd us dinner, however they wouldnt budge from their 4pm slot so i didnt get any, expecting me to take day off work to take them up on the offer and got upset when i didnt go for said microwave pie.

They go to the same hotel in the same place every year, 1 in Amsterdam in September on the ferry for 2 nights as 3 is a “bit much” and have done for last 15 years and the same in Blackpool in Februray when they go for a “little break somewhere nice” (blackpool in feb in a b&b) and so he can go to the pigeon show.

We asked them – where do you eat in Amsterdam, any nice restaurants? Their reply was we went to Macdonalds one night and the next night we had a KFC. 😥

Each to their own and all that but i dont think i can stand them much more, i might just start ignoring their whole existance.

Edit and she is fat, as in 20+ stone fat but of course this isnt the reason she had a heart attack, nor was the 30 tabs a day she smoked. It was the governments fault apparently!
