Apparently some are and some are not. Suppose the HT2 Shimanos are cheap enough to take a chance.

Im in the same boat – contemplating an uletgra one insted of megaExo

The problem is the width of the crank axle from what ive read.

Firstly for someone new to light road wheels sorry for resurrecting this thread.

    Can someone explain this further

There are obviously conditions to this if the 20mm planet x rims build up to a nice stiff wheel for 1350g for under £300.00 then it’s a bargain despite not being aero

What hubs, where from and who builds these for you to get it all in under 300?

Im looking at RS80 -c24 at the moment.

RIP Gary, I’m gutted and stunned by this. Thoughts with his parents, wife and kids.

What a sad situation where he felt this was his only solution.

Top bloke, great professional and a cracking header of the ball. Some great memories at St James’.

    Old ones rule…

I got a 95 one for 270 quid went through 4 MOTs and came with 12 months of one. Never a bill for 5 years.

It died eventually when Mrs drove it through a massive flood sad to see the old lady go to the scrappy.

    No idea on new ones.

    What is your commuter Scratch?

did you just roll up at an event for your first one or did you know someone who could guide you in with training in advance?

Thanks gents, good advice. Off to find some training resources now. I’m quite fit on the bike but not sure where to direct training over winter at the moment. My club mainly do Sportive training which isnt for me I dont have time to be doing all day 100 milers.

Will chat to club leader tonight and see what he says about other local racing training.

At what stage will i be able to justify a Colnago C59 as helping my racing 🙂

Slight hijack but still on topic.

If you were thinking about doing your first race ever – cat4 on country lanes – would I need to upgrade my R500 bombproof do it all wheels to say something like a PX model B? Or would there be no difference?

Its on a Bianchi Via Nirone AluCarbon if that matters.

Where are you? There is a lady called Cynthia who runs NESSR.NET – Northern English Springer Spaniel Rescue based near Newcastle but have foster carers throughout the country.

Give her a ring and speak to her – she can be quite abrupt but she gives good advice and is in it for the dogs rather than the people. Probably why she is so abrupt she prefers dogs to people I think.

I would take him but already have a NESSR rescue here who doesnt really get on with others, that and a baby its getting rather busy.

should have said rarely drink heavily for the hangover statement.

Just been chatting to Mrs about it, we think it was her pregnancy that kicked it off – me sitting drinking on a random Tuesday night in November didnt seem fair when she couldnt have one. Kind of just got out of the habit. We were about 4 bottles a week between us so not huge amount but then normally a big night once a weekend.

Its difficult talking about others drinking without firstly pissing others off but secondly sounding like some sort of born again dogooder.

Not looking to annoy or aggravate anyone but to those that drink on a weeknight for example, why are you drinking?

I used to but looking back i cant think why, I think it was more a habit then anything else.

I started road biking then we had a baby, there was always something else that needing bought so we stopped buying drink. Before we knew it we are both loads healthier and sleep better, I lost 3 stone since January some through removing drink I imagine but probably more through exercise.

Rarely drink now not for any moral high ground but i just hate hangovers and the thought of outdoing my hard work on the bike.

Think the biggest factor is having a child though did anyone else find alcohol consumption reduced after a baby in the house?

TCR advanced are bloody lovely the SL even more so but more money.

Defy less so – they wont inspire you with the grin you want but it will be comfy.

Shifters/levers cost loads so if you want to upgrade later it will cost you get the best you can. Mechs are cheap and the lesser brands will throw a good one on to catch your eye but will then scrimp on calipers or levers.

If it was my money I’d be looking for a nice TCR Advanced or maybe a composite (lesser quality carbon than the adv) running 105 minimum but maybe try and get some Ultegra on there especially levers on a least years model.

Think ill just chuck a 105 one in and see. They are only £11 online.

Thats the kind of thing I was thinking but are FSA cranks compatible with Shimano BB’s

Had this as an issue on my Five with Race Face cranks and Hope BB not being compatible.

On closer inspection the very bottom of the fork looks a bit ugly or is that just an illusion the way it starts to bend backwards?

EDIT: Not to mention the saddle and stem

I was looking at the Scott Foil yestrday – working out how i can pay for the 20 version. Turns out i cant nor can i pay for the TCR Advanced 2 i fancy either.

I probably can afford the new N2A frame from PX though 🙂

So the main issues seem to be page load and commenting?

For me it is manageable to read threads but to comment on them it is unusable. First few words you can type in but as sentences go on the delay gets worse.

    EDIT – iP4 – iOS 5.0.1 (5.0 was the same)

You lot must like your coffee up there. Seen there was a new one called Bari Cafe we used to talk about “bari” when I was at Thomas Percy. The outdoor shop is handy, jobsons, fair trade shop, even farmway for jules clothes for wife.

That Charlie Brooker article today was excellent and what he said about that awful Littlewoods advert was spot on.

Wont be spending a penny at any of the shops I see advertising on TV.

This is what i have been saying for a while. Its here only where I have the issue.

I typed out mega emails on safari for work using Exchange webmail and have no issues what so ever. No other sites give me problems.

Mods – could this be looked at – do any of you have iPhones that you could at least use to do some testing?

iP4 running iOS 5.0.1 normally the issue is worse towards end of a line of text.

My springer got ran over (my fault)- spinal surgery on 3 vertabrae to relieve pressure caused by numerous discs pressing on the chord – they said when we took him home 3 days later “dont worry he doesnt need a collar he will be far to sore to move” woke up next morning to find him on the sofa with 3 staples pulled out his back – how the hell he did this i have no idea.

We had to carry him out to relieve himself for about 2 weeks (actually had to massage his bladder to get him to urinate. After that he had his ball removed from the top of his thigh bone – femoral head excision is what they call it. Another 2 weeks of no moving.

It was a total nghtmare but thanks to water therapy and his single mindedness for tennis balls hes made about an 80% recovery. Bit of a limp and has a bit arthritis in his spine but other than that he is champion. Thankfully insured as the bill was £4000 ish at last count.
