Thanks Sui and supreme. Watching this with interest. Will go the 4×2 or stilt route with extra rock wool.

Can’t say the stilts appeal but I don’t want to load the ceiling.

I’ve got a 5 in the bedroom. The best thing I can say about it is that it is convenient.

It replaced an old mini hifi thing. I miss the mini hifi. If I was doing it again I’d get an amp that streams and a pair of speakers

The one speaker, while very, very good for one speaker, just isn’t as good as two speakers.

I have chickens and a fox den in the garden. There’s often fox poop outside the chicken run. The chickens are fine and happy, the foxes are now used to them and leave them alone.
I have my rabbits next door to the chickens too and so far, no issues there either (fingers crossed)

My runs are 2.4 x 5, one joins onto the next but the animals are separate. The runs are made from 2.4m fence posts dug in 40cm. No concrete. There are fencing gravel boards top, middle and bottom. Welded wire is used all round and over the top. The joins at the top are sealed with twisted wire. The wire is not dug in.
I’ve then laid paving slabs on top of sand all around the outside.

The chicken coup is the big igloo run. We had the 3m one and soon tired of moving it every couple of days. It trashed the lawn and didn’t give them as much space as I would like (4 birds).

Have a look at the refurb store. Dont forget you can get education discount if you’re at uni etc.

Pencil and paper would be much cheaper …

Cougar – chances are your version on ON in a windows env is different from that on an iDevice or OSX.

I’m not saying ON isn’t good because it is, it’s excellent. But MS hobble their products functionality in other OS

EN allows basic syncing but if you want OCR and other features, you need a sub.

Edit – if I was on a win platform and not an iPad, I’d likely go with ON

Just tried ON very quickly and do not think it’s as good on the iPad as Evernote.

OCR for handwritten notes doesn’t appear to work in ON. If it did, you would find it as useful as EN.

Just tested Evernote as well and even though that does OCR in the cloud, it didn’t take long. One note didn’t seem to work, I see conflicting info – perhaps if you buy a surface, it will work.

Both apps are ideal for what you want to use them for. I would choose your platform and try both, see which one fits your workflow best. I moved over to Apple a few years ago and haven’t looked back although on occasion I get a pang because the office suite has more features in a windows env. I usually find a way around it and do like my scripts in OSX etc.

    Enjoy your studies.

iPad Pro and pencil using goodnotes 4 or Evernote (with subscription) for cross device syncing and penultimate (included with the Evernote sub).
This would allow you to annotate pdf’s, use a keyboard (either Logitech smart kb or apples own smart kb and do handwritten notes and diagrams etc.

Evernote would most likely be my pick at the moment – it also includes OCR with the sub which is super useful for searching notes (including web clippings, PDF etc)

Last time I tried one note on iPad it wasn’t as useful as Evernote. I’ll download it and have a quick look to see if it’s improved

Have you read The Power of Now OP?

I listened to the audiobook on the train to work. Quite enlightening.

I have an IKEA uppy downy desk, the electric one..it’s dead nifty but you can’t get a shelf for it. What I did was to order a shelf from Ikea that uses the same veneer and some feet for a kitchen cabinet and made my own.

It’s now super nifty and still looks awsome.

I’ve got a new play 5. The best thing about it is it is convenient. The audio is OK. I was a little underwhelmed – tbh, I wish I’d spent a bit more and bought the MCR 610 and a pair of speakers.

That’s not to say I won’t do that and use the play five and some play 3/1’s elsewhere in the house. It really is uber convenient..

I had mine shaped when I went from grade 5 to 3-4 inches. Took much longer but meant I didn’t look too untidy (work in an office). I shaved it back to a 5 when I moved role to work for a very conservative client.
Hoping to grow back this winter and do a full yeard :)

I’ve got one of these in my orangery – Its crap!!

For the 10 mins it draws properly and puts out heat, the other 30mins of a smoke filled room is just not worth it.

    POSTED 50 MINUTES AGO # REPORT-POST

I use one of these in my rent and it’s great. No problem with draw, it gets hot and doesn’t smoke the tent out.

Latch the door if you want more draw.

Only downside is you need to have the right sized wood to fit in it and it cools quickly as it’s not cast iron.

I’ve got a 42mm series 2 and think it’s great. Main reason I bought it was for the mac unlock feature which would mean not needing to enter my password at work so often.
I’ve now got a mac with Touch ID so use my aw2 much less.

Will be listing it for sale soon – keep an eye on the classifieds at the weekend if you want to save a few bob ;)

Fwiw the hrm is pretty good, gps also good. Siri awesome. Remote fantastic. Good apps etc

    Whereabouts are you?

Do you have a relatively local music shop you can wander in to and try out a few of their budget or second hand guitars?

Spend as much as you can on the guitar so you have something that has been nicely finished, is well setup and plays nicely.
Don’t worry about fx – whatever amp you get will most likely have a clean and dirty channel – that’s more than enough for now.

If you stick at it, you will upgrade it all later anyway. N+1 takes on a whole new dimension … ;)

Both love it here fortunately. It’s good fun doing it together – we’ve started from a blank canvas – very daunting.

Last few weeks we’ve been working on palisade fencing, pergola, borders and made a decent start to the veggie patch.

I’m positively excited and looking forward to veggies

As a novice, it would be unwise to leave me unsupervised…

    I use a plantronics legend.

I got the one with the case that charges it. Connects to my mob and my PC

It’s got decent range, sounds ok and has a mute button. The voice recognition on it is reasonable too (I use it for answering calls). I use Siri if I’m being lazy dialling

    I’ve got one of these

    Honda UMK425UE Petrol Brushcutter

After winter start up 4-5 tugs, after that it’s up in 2-3 normally. Just entering its third year of neglect and still going well. Comes with a three bladed job and a nylon reel. I’ve cleared a lot of brambles etc with it. Used weekly/fortnightly.

Really happy with it, I’d buy another.

    I have something like this

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/BaByliss-Men-7810U-Beard-Trimmer/dp/B005CNVDSI/ref=sr_1_7_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1490977111&sr=8-7&keywords=babyliss+beard+trimmer

Good when short or doing fiddly bits. But I don’t like it too short so use this

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007520KCE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Can also do my hair with it as well.

As per the earlier recommendation, find a good barber. I only use mine for in between visits. When my beard was longer my barber was the only one to cut it as it needed scissors.

I’d like to say I don’t need to put my lenses in to shower but I do.

I’m either blind as a bat or hung like a gnat…

And I’ve always done that and worn them for swimming. I wear dailies.

    Ok, thanks crosshair.

I often give him a bone if I’m going out. If there’s two then they could do without and I wouldn’t want to do it unsupervised anyway.

I’d read that some even separate the dogs when they go out, I see that as defeating th object somewhat though as they’re supposed to be mates.

what about toys? Same as bones?

One thing just sprung to mind – what about bones etc?

Some of you have mentioned the need to feed in separate rooms. Can you give one each a bone or do they need be separated for that too?

Thanks for the feedback all :)

My initial thinking is to get a girly dog. I’m not overly worried about aggression but think one of each is a more natural fit.

We are lucky we have the space at home and local walks etc for big dogs. I’m a huge fan of Dobes so it’ll have to be another :)

Realistically, it’ll be another 6-12 months before we get another as it will take a while to get one from the same breeder we got the first (we put a lot of effort into finding a good breeder).

I bought an Oris diver watches a few years ago. Still worn daily and working fine. It’s rare I take it off to do something. Looks a little beat up now but that adds character.

Not sure what my next one will be. I like sea masters but they are quite popular and I’ve already got a divers watch so may go for a pilot watch – either Oris or IWC.

Op when you say put weights on, do you mean a home gym setup?

If so, yo may want something thicker with more boing like stable matting. That’s what I’ve got mine on and it’s pretty forgiving of the odd drop and quiet.

It’s best to steer clear of guitar amps because the speakers are designed to colour the sound in different ways. The make up of the cab will also change the sound and feel depending on open/closed back and other variations. Guitarists will select a speaker / cab to achieve a spefic sound.

You need a FRFR amp..don’t rush it, do your research, listen to some or buy online from somewhere with a no hassle return policy.

Fwiw is use a pair of Yamaha hs8s as part of my guitar rig at home – very pleased with them

    CaptainSlow
    Free Member

Huggis- you probably want some sort of FRFR amp(full range flat response).

Have a google, in the meantime, get some decent FRFR (or close) headphones.

I’m not a drummer (play guitar) but am tempted ‘to get my kids’ something like the kit you just bought :)

Please post an update in a couple of weeks

The downside of chasing into plaster is that if a cable fails or changes spec (hdmi for example).

I was not a fan of wall mounted TVs but the holes and mount were already there when we moved in and have found I like it where it is.

I’d either run external or build an false wall if you really want your TV wall mounted.

A false wall may not be a great option with the chimney? Is the chimney in use?

Mine is mounted on a solid wall. Cables go to the outside, run along the wall in a conduit then re-enter 8O
