    It doesn’t bother me

    I think you do.
One mans slating is another man’s well thought out and considered constructive critisism. Some people just can’t take constructive critisism.

Some people have time constraints and don’t want to be held up by children. Cuts both ways.

Too true, but there’s no need to be obnoxious when passing them.

As individual consumers we seem rather powerless to turn them down

We have all the power. No one is forcing you download the app. It looks like Amazon are trying to challenge Google Play. It’ll be a battle I could happily watch.

Surprised the “phil” in Liverpool wasnt on the list!

Because it wasn’t built between WW1 and WW2?

On One/PX are great if you have a toddler to give them too after 1 wash. We got 2 3-packs and only have 1 pair that fit adult feet (washed properly along with all our other merino stuff).

Not only me then. Even under correct washing they do seem to shrink a bit.
DHBs on the other hand are will worth the extra money paid and I’ll be getting some more.

Really? Was gun control or lack of it the reason for some US servicemen having to beat unconscious an individual with an AK, 270 rounds of ammunition, complimented with a pistol and stanley knife?

Really? That the argument for the defence?
How many more incedents would there be if there was no gun control? In the UK we have gun control, but hardly anywhere near the number of random killings as in the USA, but we still have killings as no matter how much control there is we know that people will always find a way around the control.
Do you believe that removing gun control in the UK would leave the number of gun deaths at exactly the same levels we have now, or do you think there would be an increase?
That goes to the pre-edit LHS too.

EDIT: Do you think that this feller would have been able to get close enough to kill two people today if he was only armed with a breadkinife?

Not sure gun control would have stopped this one. If someone is hell bent on killing someone like this over a personal grudge then they will find a way to do it. This wasn’t a random murder.

    I think you’ll find that you’re wrong.

(but why not learn to manual!)

Old dog, new tricks. Never had to and never learnt.
Conversely non of the climbs there are at all taxing, to the degree that the old black was doable on the big ring, 100% of it.

You can roll off at 1’24”?

    captainsasquatch

Was there last week, all rollable, i think thats one of their standrds, ie everything is rollable

They do have some blacker than black within the black sections. The main drag is all rollable, but the more extreme bits are a bit heavy – there’s a big drop off some rock for one. I walked away from that bit. No doubt somebodies three year old did it on a push along…

It’s changed since the last time I was there then. Might pop back then. :D

Eh? You can just roll off the end of them all,no launching needed as far as i remember. Definitely can be done wheels on ground all the way round.

There’s a new bit that you definitely can’t roll off, unless it’s changed, it’s a good couple of years since my last visit.
The old black was doable easily enough, it was a nice xc route.

I have no problem with that climb. It’s a nice warm up. It’s the countless other climbs that interrupt the fun and flow far too often in the last half of the red/black trail that I got annoyed with.

The initial climb has to cater for all the routes, doesn’t it? So it can’t be technical or difficult.
The thing that gets me is the boardwalk sections and the fact I’m expected to launch the bike off at the end.
I’m a confirmed wheel on the ground xc rider and enjoyed the old black as a nice hours ride. The new black is a pain in the butt because of the board walk. I always let the long travel hard core boys pass me when I had the opportunity and they could catch me, shame they didn’t return the favour on the climbs. As for the climbs mid way round, like I said, I ride a xc bike. :)

Thankfully not me i was just an observor on many times on these roads, also theres a crossing at Park Drive, new doublw yellow lines, 2 footway build outs at the crossing points a traffic island a speed camera, and a shared use cycle path all on Hoole road.

    That’s what they all say.
The traffic is seldom backed up past Newton Lane enough for those to warrant a mention.

Might react. When I slow down to let tailgaters go I sometimes get down to walking pace before they wake up and overtake.

One bad driver trying to teach another bad driver how to drive. Lolz.

3 local roads to watch it happen, Hoole road in chester 30 mph speed limit, tailbacks into the city

Coast road at Ainsdale to Southport, cycle lane goes alongside it, so plenty of viewing opportunities,

and the A 483 from the Ruabon to A5 turn off. If ever on these roads at busy times check it out.
You want to overtake on Hoole Road? Asking the question and using this as an example says more about you and your driving, and my impression is not good.
This is a busy road with cars parked on either side with many side roads where traffic want to join the flow. I have driven down here leaving space for cars to join Hoole Rd or turn right into Faulkner Street.
Why do I do this? Because I know there is nothing to be gained by being nose to tail and if anything, not allowing other traffic to flow is likely to create more problems. You’re not going to gain anything as you’re likely to get caught at either of the two pedestrian crossings in Hoole and Flookersbrook, if not there, you’ll get caught at the Brook Street lights.
I look forward to your “Why won’t people let me pull out of the side road?” thread.
EDIT: I challenge you to drive down this road at 30mph and I bet a huge gap opens up infront of you too.

The A483 is likely done by locals who know that there’s no point racing to the McDonalds roundabout as this is the likely cause of traffic building up, and the dual carriagway going from 2 lanes to one at Ruabon. Why not sit back and enjoy the view if there is a traffic jam? If you’re in that much of a rush, wait until you get past the roundabout and attack the traffic head on as you drop towards the Gledrid roundabout. either way you’re going to get wound up at the lack of passing opportunities once you get past Oswestry anyway.

I question your ability to judge traffic and drive safely

Because its all floating about out there anyway. If it bothers you that much revert back to a pen and a physical address book

That’s excellent. And how do you deal with you low self esteem?

    captainsasquatch

If you’re that much of a para wreck that this concerns you then you probably need to regress a bit, technology wise.

What makes you think that people who don’t want their address books rifled through or their photos accessed are para wrecks?

I think you are a little naive. If it really is that innocent then why not make it easy for people to opt out.

The coding would be too complicated for your average app writer to get their head around.

Nothing that we didn’t already know or already be actioning. What the article doesn’t say is that “with your permission” is a condition of using the service.
So we’re back to square one, if you don’t like this permission, don’t download the app.
I’m happy with that, but I’m sure there’s plenty out there who are not aware.

    Personally I’d rather be neither.

Me too, but if we’re calling people tinfoil hat brigade, it must be fine to call the opposing view brainless sheeple.

If you don’t like it, don’t use it or turn it off in the app settings. Simple.

I think we’ve worked that one out already and are happy to do so.

For the tinfoil hat brigade –

I’d rather be tin foil than brainless sheeple.

Yes, they can not instal the app.

I completely agree with this, the problem might be that there’s a lot of people out there who are looking at the shiney Spotify and not looking at the boring T&Cs and inadvertantly letting these apps have access to their details.
My earlier point was that if enough people know, and are not happy, and don’t download, the app designers will have to change this policy.
Obviously it’s not an issue for many, so they will continue. I’m more than happy not using Spotify, there are plenty of other ways of listening to music that don’t need access to my contact list.
For the record, most of my friends think my musical tastes are weird at best and wouldn’t thank anyone for recommending something from my record collection.

There are non-sinister reasons for them to need to access all the information that they’re asking about and, as above, any streaming service is going to look at the same information.

So there’s an opt in feature that let’s the end user choose, no?

Hey, don’t worry, I’m in your home a 3am for non sinister reasons. I’m not stealing anything, I just want a look around. :D

    captainsasquatch

Move on to what?, I suspect most streaming apps will operate similar policies,

Ah! So they’re all at it. That’s OK then.

    captainsasquatch

If you use a proper mobile OS like iOS, the OS gives you proper control over what Apps can access, so you can stop an App seeing contacts etc.

Or people can simply not download the app. How soon will it be before these apps and ultimately companies stop treating our devices as something they can dip in and out of for whatever information they want.

Local law may require that you seek the consent of your contacts to provide their personal information to Spotify, which may use that information for the purposes specified in this Privacy Policy.” – Spotify

We’ll take and use your personal information but it’s your responsibility to tell anyone inyour personal lists what we’re doing with your ind¡formation, just in case you’re breaking any laws.

    Nice.

If you want a designer to give you advice on developing your visual brand, this will cost a fair bit more. But there’s more to a brand than a logo, so money spent now will be money well spent..

Choose your designer carefully, don’t get drawn in by all the flashy sales pitches.

Aren’t they going to be a bit expensive once Strava have added on the cost of using their logo?
