Guys and girls, please tell me where you get these decals done. I have the need myself

Druid – how/where did you get that done

I am having some problems at the moment as well. Apparently sometimes the bits in the prime BT connector socket can cause a problem. Was told to check this by undoing the two screws on the front of the BT socket (must be the first point of entry to the property) to release the bottom part. Then plug your filter directly into the socket behind

As the hanger was pretty soft I actually did it in situ on the frame so that I could easily whip the mech back on to keep rechecking the alignment. Used a straight edge on the cage to check that it was parallel with the rear wheel, and then lined it up with the small cog to get the vertical alignment.

I guess it also depends on how often you are going to bend a hanger. If its say one a year then buying a new one even if it is made of cheese is possibly not so bad

bigsi, have you tried just bending the hanger back to the right shape? The advantage of them being made of cheese is that it is pretty easy to get them straight again. I did it on my BLT and its been working fine for the last 6 months. Shame I had to buy a new mech though

Funny that Google never mentioned the promotion themselves. Must be a stealth marketing campaign :-)

Thanks everyone for all the diverse information and opinions, not to mention the tags. Will hang fire for a couple of months as the job front is suddenly looking a little unpredictable. I don’t want two cars, so has to be a compromise, and ideally (but not essential) I would prefer 4WD. Therefore options:

    1) Keep the R32 for another year until the new Mk VI R** comes out
    2) Try an RS4
    3) Cayman or 911 – checked on the Porsche web site and you can get roof racks for both – bit of a faff but for once every 2 weeks why not?

Has to be L+P, using a knife to create little pockets so it does not run off. Has to be good strong cheddar.

Even better, Heinz baked beans on top of the cheese, but remember to put plenty of tabasco in the beans first. Must be eaten with Tesco traditional pickled onions.

Second oldgit that even better than that is achovies on top of the cheese, but not with the L+P

Actually think I meant the Baby Class which is all steel and looks much better than the Classic.

The baby is better than the Classic. Better built, higher bar and looks nicer

Wouldn’t touch the R36. It’s so big and heavy the performance isn’t that great, the fuel consumption is in 4×4 territory, and it is not that good to drive. All that came from a VW dealer sales person

You make a good point hora. Only take the bike in the car once every couple of weeks as I have so much riding right on my doorstep. Perhaps the bike will just have to suffer the rack, then I get a non-compromise car for 90% of the time.

Anyone know the name of specialist rack manufacturers?

leggyblonde – new or second hand, but newish second hand preferable because you miss the worst of the depreciation while still getting manufacturer warranty

stumy01 – nothing wrong with that type of car – currently have a Golf R32.

Anybody know what VW are planning for the next Golf Mk VI R**. I heard they will go for the same 2.0l turbo as the S3 because the V6 can’t hack the new emisssions regs

Also anyone know if you can get a bike in the back boot of a Cayman? They are looking very good value second hand at the moment

In England all property transactions had to be registered with LR from (I think) sometime in the 70’s so you can trace anything back through there if needed. I would be surprised if there wasn’t something of a scale reasonable enough to be accurate to a metre or so somewhere in those transaction records

emac65, not going to touch a big 4×4. Not that quick, ridiculous fuel consumption if you push them, not fun to drive, and don’t like the image

By the way, thanks for the tags someone :-)

Hmm, some good suggestions. I am guessing the RS6 will take an absolute hammering on the second had market so might be almost sensible (relatively) prices in a year or so.

Agree with all the comments about Audis. They can be very quick, but also rather uninvolving, so a bit of a trade-off.

On the fuel consumption and budget, don’t mind something a bit thirsty if you get the fun out of it, but would not be keen to take a hammering when selling it on

Don’t like bikes on racks as they get covered in crud and are too easily nickable.

Snigletrack, there is no interpretation on Land Registry. If LR shows you own a piece of land, it is set in stone unless the other guy can produce solid documentation to prove there was an error with registration. If the other guy’s LR details also show you own it, he has absolutely no case at all.

Would suggest you spend £100 or so to get a solicitor to write a letter setting out the legal position, but that you intend to allow him permanent easement for his drain as a covenant in your deeds. So he knows you mean business, you should probably add that if he does not accept this course of action you will take legal action which will involve him losing the land anyway but also having to pay your legal fees

NZcol, agree that the RS4 would be the dogs. RS6 according to all the reports is overweight (2000kg), zero fun and stupidly expensive at around £75k with all the toys on

Can absolutely guarantee with Ryanair that it will be impossible to find on the website so they can nail you for a huge extra at the airport. As an example they are the only airline in the world that doesn’t allow IATA standard sized bags as carry on luggage without charge but you have to go into the minutae on the website to find this.

Also, I really like thefirstpancake’s and nickc’s bikes. Methinks that when I ding my DT 4.2 cheese rims next year some white replacements look like they might be top of the list

Minish Man, to rise to the bait as its Sunday
    1) It is my only bike, gets ridden twice a week and has had loads of prangs – bent mech hanger, broken bars, bug**red rear mech etc etc
    2) I got all the red bits thrown in as part of the deal on buying the new bike.

Sorry snigle – I’ll try to drone on more next time

But the point still remains – why is there separate recycling when it all goes into general waste – let people know their plastic is being dumped

On connected tack, I heard that none of the green glass gets recycled in the UK because we don’t have any significant demand for green glass in this country. So I get that just gets dumped in landfill as well

BTW, did anyone see the film Soylent Green?

Second ton and dave_aber on the scrumptiousness of the Tunnocks Caramel but they should probably be classified as more of a chocolate bar than a biscuit. Next fave would have to be jammy dodger or plain chocolate digestive.

Reckon the key test as to whether it’s a biscuit or not is whether you could eat 2 or 3 with a mug of tea. Dodger or digestive yes, Caramel no.

I would also propose for nomination another top Tunnocks comestible – the mighty tea cake

Second the other that said you need to get north and get out into the wild. I am sure the southern centres are good, but probably not that different to the better trail centres in England. Head for Aviemore or Fort William as a base and go from there

    Life :-)
Work :-) (but highly stressed and temporary contract so not sure how much longer that will last)
    Pay :D (as above)

Have done some research as I will have to have a knee joint replacement in the next year or two. The issue with the knee joint as opposed to say hips is that there is not so much bone to bolt the replacement joint to. Currently knee joints seem to be lasting less than 10 years, but that is due to failure of the bond between the new joint and the bone rather than the artificial joint itself. Seems that technology is moving pretty rapidly, so I think that the longer you can hold off the better

Second Sony Ericsson C702. My wife has one but it looks like the screen scratches a bit too easily in her handbag. Alternatively any phone plus one of these Aquapacks – not cheap but will last forever and will even allow your phone to float if you drop it in a loch

Commiserations to everyone who is effected. May be joining you soon as I currently only have a temporary contract until the end of March. The only tiny, tiny silver lining to the cloud is that from redundancy experience two years ago it gives you plenty of time to get out on the bike – takes your mind off things as well.

Get something with pocket springs and ideally a memory foam top. Much more expensive than the other type of spring (whatever they are called) but it will change your sleeping life forever

Agree with V10 about pressure loss. IMHO 25% sag is too much – manual says 15-20%. I do what is probably termed aggressive XC, and I’m happy with just under 20% sag and equal +ve and -ve pressures. Don’t see why more -ve pressure reduces travel unless you go way over the +ve pressure. The -ve is only to overcome initial travel stiction.

As Keva says basically, but start with equal pressures and midway on rebound and go from there.

If you are wearing tweed trousers make sure you wear long pants underneath or your thighs and bum will look like something on a butcher’s slab

Anyway, you going to tell us why tweed? Is it a gentleman mountain bikers campaign for more city shooting?

Be more rigourous with your bathing/showering. Sorry, had to be done

More seriously, try to get some kind of mesh bag to put the removeable padding in, then stick in the washing machine. Both my knee pads and knee brace came with same

Been using Pan Cinder 2.25’s for a couple of years – seem good all round, including wet/rooty/rocky stuff here in Scotland. Will probably go for Minions or High Rollers next just for a change. Tried Maxxis Advantage on the new bike and found them awful on slippery descents – just wiped out all over the place – absolutely hopeless
