Lydeard Hill if you’re coming from Taunton.. take a ride along the ridge and drop down into one of the many coombes at each side. fairly self explanatory to be honest and if you get a little lost just head back uphill to the top ridge..

Fair enough! Can see why you would need the steriods as well. Mine only cleared up quickly as i was handilly able to diagnose and treat it myself.. bit of a busmans holiday…

How do they know its a fracture? Probably just irritation. Try the orthotics first before yoy have the steriods, a simple 3 degree medial wedge fixed mine, no pain after 2 weeks.

Leave them there.. We have heard a continuous buzzing noise coming from our attic above our bedroom, and have discovered that bumble bees have moved in! Decided to put up with the noise as they will all die off apart from the new queen this winter, when she hibernates and then goes of to set up a new colony next spring. Going to investigate once the buzzing has stopped, clear out the debris and try to secure the roof so they cant get in again. Far too few bees about these days.

moki, theres loads of thing it could be, i was just pointing out the obvious (im a podiatrist). Could well be as simple as soulwood described…but could be many other things… most of which remedied effectively by a good practitioner..

    Age?
When does this start? Worse in the mornings?

    could be loads of things..

Onset of H.A.V. (Hallux Abducto valgus) otherwise known as a bunion! Any family history of this?

Arthritic changes to the 1st metatarsalphalangeal joint.

    Gout.

    ….amongst others..

Get yourself along to a Podiatrist to check it out for you. Your Doc can refer you or you can shell out and go private.

Could be just you.. Could be singns of impaired glucose tolerance so get tested by the GP for diabetes just in case.

Friend had the same problems as you, same age. Changed thier diet, left the car at home and walked to work/shops etc and lost the weight…problem solved..

Or it could just be bad Aids..

Had a box full of those hubs to strip and rebuild. Just take it apart and lay it out as an exploded diagram, clean it, take any worn parts to your LBS and replace them. Rebuild. Its a 20 min job once the internals are out.

It was my initiation as a bike mechanic to rebuild a box full of them, with no help or instruction, just “get on wi’it lad”…

good luck with the rod brakes though!

Try the ice and rest, with painkillers, anti inflams if needed. rest as much as poss. Wear your trainers or good supportive shoes, if pain doesnt reduce withn the week then see you Doc for referral…

Would go into causes and possibilities but not sure it would serve much use..

    email in profile if needed.

How long has the pain been? is it just when walking or at rest? If walking is it all the time or does it start after a small distance? Have you tried ice, rest, strapping etc? ’tis what i do…..

Made the switch back in 1999. Got rid of an Orange clockwork, ‘dale tandem. Made sense at the time as i started to compete and enjoy training with our local Tri club. Training was easier, no need to drive to the start of any rides, easier bike maintenance, attained a greater fitness by far than i had ever done on the MTB.

Lasted about 6 years before I just became bored with it all and didnt ride for a few years.

Last year bought an Orange R8 pro and a Saracen Tufftrax for my lad and regained my love for the dirt.. Have the road bikes hanging up collecting dust in the garage,… I plan to get back to the road, but not at the expense of the MTBing. Its probably because that i throw myself at anything i do with such a blinkered focus, to the detriment of everything else, and find myself feeling stale and wanting something different. Gotta mix it up a bit to really appreciate both IME.

Start with a cheap one marp, and keep practising.

thered talked to his local butcher, good idea. I was one for more than 20 years, no point trying to explain, you need a demonstration if possible as there are as many techniques as there are whetstones to choose from.

Buy a decent steel and learn how to use it properly, thats the secret, sharpening a knife is one thing but keeping the edge keen with a steel is the difficult bit!

Theres loads of difference. Buy a cheapish double sided stone and practice on knives that you dont mind messing up so you can perfect your technique before sharpening the good ones!
