mikewsmith – huge drop in calorie intake once I dropped the carbs. I average approx. 1800 kcals a day now, was probably consuming nearer 4000.
My partner is also losing weight – but dieting her way and attends weightwatcher each week for a public weigh in!. The support and encouragement of doing this together cannot be understated – its been a huge help.

Just shy of 18 stone in Jan, now down to 15.5. Started just eating less, bit of a hiccup a couple of months in have lost 18 lbs since the start of August. Cut out carbs from bread, pasta, rice, pastries, cut out alcohol, watched the calories . .

Had an all inclusive holiday abroad last week, swam lads but still put on 12lbs although I have managed to shift that extra in the last week.

it was a pasta and alcohol fuelled break!

Similar here, 17.5 stone in Jan, so just cut back a bit on portion size and lost a stone by end of June. realised it was the carbs that were the problem, so just cut them out as much as I could. No processed food, no potatoes, pastries, rice or pasta. Just fruit and veg, and easy on the fruit. Still have 3 to 4 cups tea/coffee per day with one sugar (giving up smoking was a doddle compared to stopping sugar in hot drinks) – down from my usual two. . . found it hard for the first week with banging headaches, but kept up the fluid intake with plenty of water. feel so much better and much less bloated, and dropped a stone in 3 weeks!

Im lucky as I work in the NHS, have not been to the Doc, but work with Spinal Specialist Physios who have basically said the symptoms I have will not improve but that it should be no impingement to excersizes. Fine with anything in a straight line, running, cycling, swimming (cant tumble turn anymore – I throw up!) Dizzyness is definitely caused by the compression – was not there before. Went to an amusement park with my 2 year old and got dizzy on the kids rides with him! I get electric shock feelings thoguh every joint when I run though, or jump off something – which isn’t pleasant . . just something to get used to and monitor. Any increase in symptoms go straight to the doc, or better still A&E.

11 years post ADCF to c5/6/7 and fusion, scaffolding to C4/5. Still have clonus/hyper-reflexes, still very dizzy at times. worse when i’m tired. Get it checked out that further impingement hasn’t returned. I’ve had mine checked, and its fine but have been warned that it may well occur again further down the spine. You learn to manage it . . it doesn’t get better, but it wont get worse. I look at it as a huge improvement post op from not being able to walk . . .

Have 3 100 x 33ft plots. They were Dads and he had them when I was a nipper – so part of the family now for 40 years. Took them on when he passed away 6 years ago as there were too many memories just to walk away.

Have pretty much grown everything – still experiment every year with new stuff – and keep going with it if its any good. Its not cheaper than shop bought produce if you factor in your time.

Damn hard work though, spend roughly 8 hours a week down there in the growing season with the help of my eldest lad – hard to keep on top of the weeding at times, but grow all I need for our extended family – and still keep Mum in supply of fresh veggies as Dad did.

Must confess to having thoughts of packing them in – Have a new young family now and want to spend more time with them . .

file, then use emollient, anything urea or glycrerol based. Flexitol, CSC, Hydromol . . .

Make sure you dont walk bare foot until they have resolved. wear footwear that has a heel cup, not mule type, or flip-flops.

You need a Dick 11″ multicut fine flat steel.

Other steels wont even come close, had mine for 30 years Butchery and Slaughterhouse work.

You wont get the results you want straight away, you need to practice and get comfortable with it, and touch up the blade more often than you probably think you need to as the trick is to keep the blade edge maintained – that said it can sharpen a dull blade if you know how.

Far better than any other oval steel, or carbon steel.

GO! If you feel dillusioned where you are and both want to move then whats stopping you? The kids will be fine. We are looking at doing the same but both have the same job, so very difficult to do as we need both incomes and cant afford for one of us to be without work and looking . . Until last week when 2 postions came up in Dumfries! Job applications went in pretty quick . . .

A fair few altercations during commutes or group rides.

On memorable one, driver turned right in front of me, we had eye-contact as i approached, and I thought the driver was goig to wait for me to ride past , but sure enough, pulled out!
I was just riding my new (original) P7 back from the bike shop. Ended up somersualting over the bonnet of the drivers car. Got up to give the driver an honest apprasial of what had just happenend only to find the most beautifil brunette looking back at me, as visibly shocked as I was.

I couldnt say word, at that moment she had reduced me to a jibbering fool . . . i think I even apologised!

Get yourself and your foot to a Podiatrist pretty quick. Blisters dont last for 6 months, and there is no way a blister can seal and fill up again that quickly without some sort of underlying cause or pathology.

Make sure they are H.P.C registered or get your GP to refer you to an NHS Podiatrist . . .

Even without knowledge of your medical history if I read those sypmtoms of one of our referral sheets I would be seeing you within 24hrs . . . .

Best to leave them (lapsed beekeeper here) if the are Bumbles – they will do their stuff this year and then die this winter – the new queens from the nest will have flown, mated, and will hibernate somewhere before looking for a new nest site in spring. Bung up the hole when the nest has died. You should not have any problems with them if you just leave them to do their thing

If an impression or a mould of your foot was taken, you should be able to order more through the same practitioner, straight from the orthotic maunfacturers themsselves (as our NHS patients do if they want more of the same or spares for different shoes) – if they still have your records. there are loads of insoles available off the shelf – but not knowing your foot-type I would nor reccoment you try any.

If you had to get them made, the chances are you will probable have to go down that road again.

Realy so sorry to hear that, my thoughts are with you. Can only say that for me it was devastating, it happened to us a few times before our little miracle arrived . . . . he’s 18 months and a real blessing. It has happened since as well, but eventually I hope time will heal your loss. It did for us.

“Christ! I’m not even capable of looking after myself!”

^^ this for the first one!

15 years later and the feeling was totally different for the 2nd one (2nd Mrs Carbon), overjoyed but really scared at the same time following multiple misscarriages.

Found out at the weekend that the 3rd is due, we were told there was no possibility of further children, so we just thought that was that and were thankful for what we have. Now I feel nervous as hell again, worried whether this one will make it full term and arrive safely, but so happy that there is a possibility of another one and two of them can grow up together.

    And congratulations! :D
