+1 for ManyTears
Got one of ours from thereAptly named website as it always gets dusty when I look at it
canny1Free MemberHave you factored in the cost of a new shimano freehub in to your calcs?
canny1Free MemberJust be very careful with bike size and geometry.
Whatever you get, make sure it has plenty of adjustability esp the bars/stem.
Position is everything, I wouldn’t ride a 73 seat tube angle, and some head tubes are ridiculously tall on some tt bikes
I’d look secondhand on that budget, have a look at the tt forum
http://www.timetraillingforum.co.ukcanny1Free MemberTo those that have checked their speed against GPS etc, do you keep checking as your tyres wear down?
Genuine question as I assumed the error of the speedo crept in as you wore your tyres down, ie driveshaft still spinning at x revolutions but you are travelling further, hence faster, on a new set than on a set at the min legal limit? or am I talking bobbins and the impact is too small to notice? 🙂canny1Free MemberBased in Denia, not used them personally but friends have for training camps
canny1Free MemberCampag UK Service Centre
http://www.velotech-cycling.ltd.uk/index.shtmlOr Mercian Cycles always good for old spares Campag parts in the past
canny1Free Memberhttp://www.bourgdoisansbandb.com/
Friends of ours, stayed there a few times
canny1Free MemberWe didn’t want kids, together over 20 years, then she hit 40.
OMFG that timebomb went off big style, I couldn’t escape!!
Now got 6 month old twins at 44……..canny1Free MemberTechnically your club should be a member of the mkca ( http://www.mkca.org.uk)
to let you ride. You should be ok, but there has been a bit of hassle in the last Cpl of weeks with helmetless riders and some with no lights and cars driving on the circuit.
This week someone from the committee is popping down to check up on these things as they have had a few complaints.
Just explain you are down for the week if asked, ride clockwise and stay left unless you are on a charge
I’ll be there from around sixcanny1Free MemberStart off steady, really steady, first cpl of minutes should feel relatively easy, then the pain slowly builds 🙂
Do not charge off from the start, you’ll be breathing out your arse in two mins and your whole ride will suffer.
No bottles needed for a ten
Whatever’s comfortable but aero, maybe borrow clip onscanny1Free MemberWatching post with interest.
Both my tabs broke, Garmin won’t warranty and its £70 for a refurb unitcanny1Free MemberStayed at Tinqueux Campanile last Sunday. Just north of Reims, straight off peage, about 10 hotels to choose from, all budgets.
Big supermarket to refuel car etc, 24 hr McD’s if you get desperatecanny1Free MemberNot riding it but its on a new circuit this year. Local roads to me
Main concern would be the shocking road condition on the S bends before the Calvert turn. 1/2 way from Gawcott. Potholes and expansion cracks everywhere. Its bad enough when there is just a cpl of you let alone 80 odd.
Definately try to look at that bit before hand, middle of the lane is smoothest.
There are also a cpl of narrow bridges that will be pinch points so best be near the front for them
Oh and enjoy it 🙂canny1Free MemberAlso be aware how depressed/shit scared etc they will be in kennels when you meet them.
We almost didn’t take our fella as he was such a miserable sod on his trial walk with our existing bitch. (Both mini schnauzers) He was not interested in any of us or anything. At the end of the walk luckily he saw his regular kennel helper/walker and went batty, jumping up wagging, tail etc just as you expect. Then he was back to depressed/confused as we drove home, kept looking at me with his big depressed eyes no doubt thinking what the hell is going on.
Still took plenty of months until he finally came out of his shell with us. Had him 4 years now and he wakes up every morning full of the joys of life, he’s almost puppy like still.
We think he sat on an old ladies lap for his first few years, wasn’t socialised, still doesn’t like men & kids until he knows them well.
He has a few bad habits but if i’m honest I cut him too much slack, due to his past.canny1Free MemberThere are a few campsites in the valley around Bourg
It gets rammed a cpl of days before on the Alp itself.
You can ride up on the morning of the race, road is closed about 4 hrs before the race. You wont break any records tho, too many walkers and last minute cars going up.canny1Free MemberWhen i played football, i had this. Camera up japs eye etc, having to wee a little on doc to let camera into bladder!!
Ended up as joggers bladders, ie blood vessels on wall of bladder bursting with all the bouncing around. Went away by itself.
Most embarrissing was peeing into a trough in the away end of the old Highbury stadium. Unfortunately i had played footy that afternoon and was at the furthest end of the trough away from the drain, had bloody piss and had to watch in horror as it trundled along the trough past 20 odd blokes, cue lots of strange looks and a quick run out.
canny1Free MemberSimilar situation to us, 1 of our 4 cant travel due to broken back, all pinned back together now and he’s on the mend
Advised by Thomson/agent just don’t turn up and then on return ask for a no show invoice to present to the insurance company.90% fee to cancel or £70 to change name
canny1Free MemberBe wary of the Anglian Windows
conmensalesmen.‘got to keep the finance going for 12 months to get the discount etc’
Initial quote £30k+ got down to £15k, slightly less than both neighbours paid. Cash price £17k, finance £14400, didn’t need finance but took it anyway. Salesman kept telling us we had to keep finance going for 12months but if we did we would only pay £15k in total. At 20% odd APR those claims were lies. Paid it off asap.
Then it took 5 months(and about 5 visits) to cure a cpl of snags, one leak, one bubble in glass and a couple of scratches. They first tried to polish out then admitted defeat and ordered replacement glass.
Paying on finance i had effectively paid in full upfront so had no leverage to get them to resolve issuescanny1Free Memberhammerite – Member
Is there still training round the bowl on a Tuesday night through the winter?
Posted 16 hours ago #Report-Post
Yes but not sure if its started yet, keep an eye on TeamMK.com.
Think it’s CycloX training on Tues at the momentWavendon Gate here, all good as far as i’m concerned
canny1Free MemberLast year the course iirc was only in the Bowl itself. Under BC regs the bits thru the trees are too narrow i think.
So lots of off camber tricky corners on the grass
Oh and some steep bits 😉canny1Free MemberCarl, Hill climb was Sun am, RR and cross was Sat? 😉
About 30 people on bikes spectating, it was cold and damp, better off Stava’ing in the warm sunshine with a nice tailwind. 😆
Also clashed with Hemel’s Hill climb up the Beacon so i’m told
canny1Free MemberI wear one ever since there was a fatality for some poor guy. No id, he was wearing one of our old club tops. Police called up number on our website, with vague description of him & bike. Lots of worrying follow up calls along the lines of ‘Hi is that Dave, good you are still alive’, dreaded calling & getting someones wife.
Eventually we worked out he must be a lapsed member from a few years back and gave police our suspected name. Unsure how they finally confirmed it, guess they went round to his house 🙁canny1Free Member£498 rings a bell
Partner just had her online account hacked, half a dozen amounts just below £500 ( 498 496 494 etc)so prob not CRC
Seems like Santander missed the first fewcanny1Free MemberFriend crashed heavily a couple of years back, big bang on head, coma for two weeks etc, just about ok now thank god, touch and go for a while.
Anyway he wasn’t insured, heli’d off mountain to hospital, bill was getting expensive at £1500 odd per day in hospital.
E111/European card covered 80% of costs, his family paid for repatriation by private jet with nurses, that was expensive! approx £10kThe balance 20% was eventually paid/ignored/netted off against the French running up bills in UK hospitals
canny1Free MemberChris Rea i’m afraid.
We were in Bourg last year for Alp D’Huez stage. Roads close early about 4hrs earlier i think, although the Alp was effectively closed all day due to volume of people/walkers/cyclists & the Dutch.
We were staying with friends and tried to make run for it about 11pm afterwards. Whoops, did 3 miles in about 3hrs on the road to Grenoble, luckily we were heading south, so cut off up the Col D’Ornon, which was almost traffic freecanny1Free MemberDownside explained to us was that your parents risk losing the roof over their head if you hit hard times/bankruptcy etc.
Presume you would will it back to them if you went first?canny1Free Memberhttp://www.tour-qtr.com/epaper_4_2011
Has a nice article on building your own steel frame pg6
canny1Free MemberOk i see now,
i was/am on the French system, looks like they are stopping us Brits from using that and now a UK co. is going to handle it at increased cost.
I’ll see if/when they cancel my existing tag or at least tell me about it, til then i’ll stay with the French.canny1Free MemberWhen we started using it you got a discount on the tolls iirc of about 7-10% so it paid for itself.
I did hear they were stopping/reducing the discount but its so convenient having the tag, haven’t bothered checking it outWorks on any car, so family etc have used it, obv. paying my cc bill when it arrives
canny1Free MemberBeen doing this for years.
Best advantage is at the height of summer, it allows you to jump some big queues using the tag only lane. 😀
canny1Free MemberBeen suffering for the last 4 weeks, slowly clearing up now but boy was it itchy and stopped me riding. 1st time i’ve had it in nearly 20 years riding. At first didn’t think it could be Jock itch as pictures all show it creeping down the thighs, then last week it hit my inner thighs!
Daktacort cream here, clears it up but all the warnings say don’t use it for more than 7 days as it thins the skin and thats the last thing i want happening to my perineum!
So after 3rd doc visit, panicking now i’ve got a training camp in three weeks!, using hydrocortizone cream (Daktacourt/Canestan Hydrocortizone) applied sparingly to relieve the itching/inflamation etc.Clotrimazole cream, couple of times a day, i got it on prescription but again canesten do a version with it in.
Just for good measure i’m blasting the area with Lamisil Jock itch spray once a day.
All the blurb says continue treatment for at least 2/3 weeks to kill it.
I was basically treating for 7 days (as instructed) then riding and it was coming back, you’ve got to carry on treatment long past when you think its gone!canny1Free MemberNot sure why the other smaller group always got two guides
and OP’s larger group (who rightly didn’t want to split up) only got the one?canny1Free MemberSheldon Brown is your friend
http://www.sheldonbrown.com/cribsheet-spacing.htmlThey are prob close enough to get away with it .
CTC would suggest alternating the cable clamp route http://forum.ctc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=28705&p=233480&hilit=shiftmate%3F
one of these maybe if needed http://jtekengineering.com/shiftmate.htm
or put a 7 sp shimano cassette on with a spacer as thats still 5mm spacing (obv you lose a gear tho)
