To demonstrate their pedalling performance here’s a video of some guy on a fatbike riding a hard pack trail centre descent pedalling the whole way and barely managing to keep up with an old slow guy on a normal mtb.

To put this into perspective, The old bloke takes about a minute longer to ride the trail than most decent riders on Hardtails would

I believe the question was “are they as hard to get up to speed as they look?”
and the answer is Yes, if you are the type of rider that likes an fast accelerating bike, look elsewhere. Fatbikes work best mainly pedalling while seated and pedalling rather than sprinting to speed, freewheeling and repeating.

£30? What’s wrong with simply asking the landlord.?

Dogging. CO. UK membership would be handier IMO so you know which carparks to avoid or not depending on your persuasion.

Au contrair, in comparison to any other off road cycle racing 4X could easily be the most interesting to non cyclists as a spectator sport.
Needs really clever track design though.

No. Never! Not on any bike ever!
But then I don’t run stupidly long forks, stupidly low bars or run my levers at a stupidly downwards angle.
Can you see what I’m getting at here?

Either stop playing or stop being such a hypocrite then, you’re pretty much single handedly ruining this thread.

You seem to have no idea how complex the programming and attention to detail in each seemingly random AI in the game actually is in comparison to characters you don’t even interact with other than in set pieces and cut scenes.

    No spoilers in here then?

Glad I’m not still completing the story 😉

All the AI in the game have characters, lives, relationships, jobs and even family.. Do you just ignore their dialogue on the street Molgrips? Kinda handy you are able to exhibit this sociopathic trait to hold onto your questionable moral high ground..

If any of the less sensitive souls on here see a bunch of roadies drafting while playing as Trevor, make sure you run them down his dialogue is priceless

I take it you only watch PG films and stick to the kids section of Waterstones Molgrips? Whatever you do, don’t watch Disney’s “Bambi” 😀

Are folk really too shy/socially backwards to thank people without the safety of the Internet to do it through these days? Or have you simply spent the weekend thinking of how you can maybe hook up with this modern day trail centre hero? 😉

The entire story mode was a bit too easy IMO, a big criticism of previous GTAs was the tedious repetition of having to re-do entire missions from the start if you messed up anywhere along the way, Rockstar have addressed this by adding multiple checkpoints but without suitably difficult objectives this only makes each mission a breeze for any half competent games player to complete. This was confirmed when watching my 11yr old who. has never played any GTA before sail through it easily bespite only ever having played LBP, the sims, LBPracing and Lego harry potter previously.

Really don’t understand how a grown adult copes in the real world if they can’t handle Trevors character/story line. “that” scene really is nothing compared to what you’d expect in adult film/literature

    Ha ha.. Hilarious! 😀

You obviously haven’t witnessed the toilet seat and PJ parade at Glentress playpark (12-3 sat/Sundays as long as it’s not spitting)

Full facers reduce line of sight considerably for dirt jumping and knee pads are much more useful protection than an upper body suit for bailing a dirt jump.
I’d rather wear no helmet jumping than a full face.

the bells househusband recommended are great, the sound they make is so polite if you ring them, approaching a group of seniors out for a walk they won’t get out your way but all look around thinking they’ve somehow entered an antique shop.

What’s obvious is that you haven’t skited along nearly enough to categorically state which option slides or rolls better and haven’t even thought about which is more likely to dig in or allow least restrictive movement during the slide/roll/ejection.
Relying on body armour to save you is not always the best option. 😉

Utter bullshit! They aren’t tied to madison as their sole shimano supplier.

First, General riding where? (surfaces?) what do you and the bike weigh? how much clearance does the bike have?
Next, what are you after? comfort, low rolling resistance, all out grip or durability?
    Then, what’s your budget?

I realise you seem to be STWs resident DH expert these days Northwich but only a complete noob to crashing would say body armour makes rolling and sliding out of crashes easier.. It doesn’t at all. How many dirt jumpers and bMXers wear it? Where bailing safely is pretty much a requirement .

Armour can’t stop a broken collar bone or vertebrae unless the break is from directly landing on a rock etc. Which isn’t often how these breaks happen.

Yeah, I know! he gets Shiggy to, someone who seems to know quite a bit more about tyres and has a website all about them but as is evident in the tread patterns he comes up with doesn’t really fully understand how to design a tyre tread himself, not that it will worry many on here as all they want is large volume and soft compounds in a durable not overly heavy package at a budget price. If that’s “jolly good” enough for you great!

Cheap l/H triple shimano STi levers are available separately on Ebay. £20odd plus postage from Asia brand new.

Bike shop staff will have you believe otherwise

Just buy a cross mark, Brant hasn’t got a clue what makes a decent mtb tyre tread, if it actually turns out any good it’ll just be blind luck or an outright copy

Depends really, my 11yr old is 5’3″ and rides the same size DJ frame as me 14″(22″ TT) but that’s as a general mtb whereas mine is actually used as a jump bike (I’m 5’11”)

Most decent DJ frames actually come in long or short sizes, ideally for anyone under 5’5″ you want the shortest TT and stays you can find sub 21″ and sub 16″ and if you find more than one or two bikes to fit the bill, the lowest standover out of them. Any shorter than that height and 24″ wheels probably make a lot of sense.

Kinda makes a little more sense now you’ve gone into more detail over how you ride the mtb, unless you’re a sprinter roadbikes are more efficient once you find a comfortable aero position and you shouldn’t really be using your core so much, as you describe throughout the whole, ride. ever looked at most competitive road racers upper bodies?

Sounds a pretty decent avg to maintain on knobbly mtb tyres (although as you mention TT I’d need to assume not much climbing)
Personally I can’t get within 30sec of my road bike times on a 2.5min climb on a my mtb,

I assume you’re timing a short local road loop from the door for your comparison?
How exactly are you timing these rides?

There’s no way the mtb (assuming off road tyres) is as quick, it’s something you are (or are not) doing efficiently on the roadbike. Whether that be position, fit or something else.
No number of pics of you leaning against a fence is going to help you with this.

On the road you’re basically only fighting against wind resistance, gravity and finding your most efficient position.

Don’t worry though, if you stick with it long enough you’re sure to figure it out at some point.

Ha ha.. You seriously think being expensive ensures a bike will handle well?

I find quite a few riders become even more cautious when they finally buy their first uber expensive bike, especially now there’s so much carbon involved.

You’ve only got to look at how much heli tape some folk’ve applied.

Not sure why everyone’s tip-toeing around saying what they actually see here, You simply look too fat for a roadbike, stick to mtb or buy a £6k cervelo and full matching lycra. 😉
Walleater’s shop will even lend you one for a large deposit til you bend it.

If you really are as fast on roads on your mtb it’s far more likely you are simply uncomfortable riding a roadbike as fast as it can be pushed and holding back somewhere.

Your gentle blue run at a trial center is what a downhill race course looked like 15 years ago. Your red run is what a downhill race course looked like 10 years ago. And now we all want to ride the black run, and do 5ft drops to rock gardens. And we can on a £3000 bike.

Ha ha.. Where the hell did you race DH 15years ago?
15years ago Ft William was rougher, far more natural and way less “trail centre obstacle” sculpted. Like wise for Innerleithen and most of the Scottish and Welsh tracks.
Nowadays it’s all manmade jumps, nicely carefully built rock gardens and sculpted berms all over the place, you’re lucky if there’s a single rut in a lot of tracks and we all know trail centre mincers can’t ride ruts (no one runs skill courses on ruts as in the cafe all everyone wants to brag about the pitiful amount of air they managed on piss easy jumps)
