You expected a 380g carbon rim to be noticably STIFFER than a 500g Alu one?

one ride reviews here are awesome! keep up the good work

Sub zero doesn’t even require gloves, minus 15 mibbie a thin pair of Troy lees.

Not really sure why folk recommend ALDI or LIDL gear when it’s generally only on sale one day each year. Or are hey selling these tomorrow?
No matter how warm these gloves are they look rubbish for mountain biking.

20 odd years ago I witnessed a car sideswipe a bus, leave the ground and crush a pedestrian against a wall while waiting at a red to cross a busy city centre crossroads. I wasn’t wearing a helmet and usually jumped that red light (if I had that day I’d have been right where the dead pedestrian last stood) . To this day still don’t wear a helmet on the road and still jump red lights.
Sorry, not sure I understand the original point.

Ha ha.. I’m a roadie, downhiller and dirt jumper but not a dissenter. I have a reverb for days when 125mm drop will do. (Ie. No sweet jumps or super steep/tech gnar)

Grum, I was at my local indoor skate park last weekend for the first time in ages and skaters out numbered scooter/BMX riders 2 to 1..the scooter riders were all under the age of 10 and I was one of only a few BMX riders there. I was surprised too. A couple of years ago you couldn’t move for scooters and 10yrs ago it was in liners, that seems to have completely died

I can drop my seat post easily enough without stopping, there’s no need to dismount or wipe any mud off anything.

South Wales mud is way more fun than any Scottish mud.
    Scottish mud is slower FACT

    Both.
And upgrade to PS+ so your save data is stored online instead of on the hardware. It’s well worth the 4quid a month for the free titles anyway.

Agreed. and if you can’t control your own toddlers or have the common sense to keep them out of harms way don’t take them on a shared path and certainly not near busy roads.
Pmsl at toddlers not having the same capacity for training as dogs ;D

Trail rat, I’d have to agree 100% with MSPs comprehension of what you typed, if you want anyone with even a basic understanding of the English language to understand what you are trying to convey I’d suggest brushing up on your grammar, spelling and punctuation. Even with your poor explantion backtracking concerning what you meant, you’re still coming across as a stuck up strava hating idiot!

Innocent old dude gets hurt intentionally by rope placed to hurt another human (by who we do not yet know). There is absolutely no justification for the actions of those who put up the rope . only an arsehole would argue otherwise.

Racing defaults to “catch up” meaning any following car/bike is slightly faster, being out in front on long straight races is rarely an advantage to taking the win. But even on shorter twister circuits keep an eye on what’s going on behind you (radar and rear view) . Also suss out how the opposition play (especially corner) and take advantage of any break you’re given, ie. If you’re in third and know one of the drivers in front is a dirty bustard you’re almost guaranteed to get by them when he tries to take out the other driver so wait patiently.

I was knackered last night and couldn’t play for shit. (early starts this week)

might be on tonight after night ride, post ride beer will dictate. How well/badly I play.

Thanks Yeti_man, didn’t have a clue where was a decent spot to start from in survival at boneyard tonight and just kept getting myself shot in the back so thanks for dragging me through many waves before I finally admitted defeat and camped right next to you.. Thought you thoroughly deserved the 7k bounty 😀

On its own, nothing at all.
It’s a percentage of your performance against others over your best 100 segments. Without being local to you and riding (and actually trying) on each of those segments, anyone else’s score is hugely irrelevant to you too.

    I don’t wear one.
Why? I detest war, the military, weapons, and everything to do with it and would rather not remember it each year.. There are still ongoing wars, what do you wear to commemorate/acknowledge those? Nothing! And what good would it do if you did?

Quite the opposite experience of dropper posts for me. I used to think nothing of riding for 2hrs with my mtb saddle completely slammed, never ever even thought of sitting down while descending and rode a lot of BMX. My core fitness was my biggest strength and never ever felt knee pain. Fitting a dropper was a huge mistake, for one thing 125mm below optimum pedalling height is nowhere near as low as my usual slammed saddle height and just gets in the way riding very steep technical descents or jumping. But worse than that, the ability to raise the saddle on the fly made me very lazy, to the point I even found myself raising it mid descent. My core fitness and strength suffered and BMX began to hurt my knees much more.
Dropper post is removed again now and will only be fitted for rides where I feel there will be a real benefit from now on.

To answer your question though, YES you will become stronger the more you ride stood up, sounds like you never did this enough with your saddle at full height anyway. Do you ride a full suspension bike? I find a lot of riders use their suspension to aid sitting down comfort rather than utilise the extda grip, stability and tracking that it’s designed to give.

High 70s I only have 2 road KOM,(maybe another 15 mtb) around here road segments’re all pretty much sewn up by a few professional roadies and one or two top amateurs. Even the descents are out of reach by quite a margin. A lot of road KOMz are wind assisted or attained in a group too so times are not all that helpful on their own

Thread wasn’t meant to be about Strava, tho, there’s a STW strava club if you want to see how you stack up digitally

Pity you’re not online, if you send me a friend request I could “gift” you pretty much any car you wanted to make levelling up a little more ejoyable

GTA5 isn’t as good as GT5 for pure racing but it blows away NFS most wanted for fun racing/stunts (burnout paradise still beats it too other than the dated graphics) .

GT6 should be out very soon, can’t say I have any interest in it unless they’ve got completely different tracks (which I doubt very much)

Ah, ok.. GT5 single player was hard for me to get into at first, took far too long to get to interesting races/cars and felt far too close in game play to the original PS1 game but with long pointless waiting/selection screens added but by midway through it was great, they addressed a lot of those problems and adding the seasonal races made it much more playable.. When you get online you’ll find some of the clean racers insanely good and if you’re rabecausecing against custom cars you’ve often got no chance, they’ve often tuned them specifically for one or two circuits because of this, I only ever race dirty (no rules) races with the cars selected randomly from the same class online. Never did complete single player as the endurance races are far too long.

a local riding buddy had his carbon 26″ XC (whippet?) frame’s seat tube (of all places) snap JRA not long after buying it. replaced quickly and his replacement has been fine (Exact same build). He hasn’t heard of any others suffering any problems.

Bit of a willy waving thread but I’ve had a beer so why not.

nevermind waving a bit after a beer, you should be spraying us all with champers as we look on in awe. 😯 they’re well impressive times/results.

difficult to say from your description alone, but still worth a try, you never know, stans may offer a reduced price for a replacement?
plus, someone at the bike shop may be able to give you a better idea of how dodgy (or not) it is to run with a tube.
even if you put detailed pics up here the advice will be dubious at best.

cheapest option would be to contact the shop you bought them from and enquire about warranty and see how that goes.
But, why not just run it with a tube? sorry, you haven’t been very clear about what sort of crack it is and where abouts on the rim?
I’ve had mavic rims that developed cracks and ridden them for years aferwards without the crack getting any worse if that’s any help?

cheapest replacement option has gotta be as Neil says above unless you can find a complete wheel super cheap and someone willing to pay over the odds for your used s/h hub.

would have thought a seasoned SSer would have no trouble getting to the top of a welsh trail centre on 1×9. I know I can get round any trail centre on 36/28 on my 2×8, only need the 22T ring for natural/longer rides. (i’m no SS whippet, more of an old greman shepard who’s had a few too many treats)

if you’re struggling, fit a 34T ring, you won’t spin out 34/11 at a trail centre unless you take the fireroad and NEED cake quick.

switching to 10speed will require a lot of new parts, going to single ring up front will require a chain device and possibly a new ring at most

dunno what your daughter’s like, but my 11yr old goes to high school with boys with internet access on their mobile phones, a little sexual content/nudity/swearing in a fantasy game is the least of our worries.
