There’s no finance with YT as far as I am aware.

I’d use a 0% purchase credit card and make the Euro payment on the card through HiFX

I used them when I bought my Wicked last year and saved £50 over using my bank to make the international payment.

I’ve just done this, specifically replacing optical drive with an SSD and replacing the original HDD with a larger one.

I used time machine to do a full backup to external HDD, swapped both the drives and then just switched the MacBook back on. You select a wifi network, it downloads the OS and then you plug the external HDD in and select the backup you wish to restore from (i.e. the most recent) and, in my case, which of the 2 drives I want to install it on.

Could not have been easier really. I actually put the user settings and applications on the SSD first and then put all the stored files on the HDD.

Well worth having a bash yourself – worst case scenario, if you balls it up you just need to put the original hdd back in!

If you are looking at YT bikes would you not be better considering a Wicked as your do it all bike? I’ve got the 650b version and, imo, it’s more than capable for pretty much anything in the UK.

I’ve used Pro Grip in Larbert twice on my 1 series over the past 6 years and 100K miles. You will honestly be amazed at the difference it makes and just how far our both your front and rear wheels are.

Funnily enough (although not for me!) my car is in there at the moment because I had a spring snap on me this weekend – damn potholes. They are replacing all 4 at pro-grip for 30% of the cost of a pair of springs fitted from BMW.

Only downside with Progrip is that the guy only works weekdays.

Gibbonarms, as someone who just purchased a Wicked i’d be interested in your reasons why. Oh and was it a Wicked Pro with BOS by any chance?

I recently stayed at the Marlin Apartments in Canary wharf – much better than a hotel imho. 2 night in a 2 bed penthouse flat was half the cost of a decent hotel. Thoroughly recommend them.

We got the tube back after a concert at night no problem – actually very well organised considering the number of people trying to get the tube all at once.

eltell, thats amazing that you managed to get it on rtw!! It’s reassuring that you haven’t had any major issues either.

nodrog, that is concerning – i’m hoping they are isolated incidents on the 26″ version – at least the ‘trail’ bikes come with a warranty unlike all the others in the range! What I do find interesting is that the only people who can post on the YT Facebook page is YT! I guess there’d be a whole crowd of angry warranty refugees flooding the page if this wasn’t the case!! I think after sales is seriously where YT need to improve – something I am yet to experience..and hopefully won’t need to.

fluff, I agree that the mech hanger situation is worrying – i waited an extra 2 weeks for the spare mech hanger to come into stock before buying the bike…and even then they didn’t actually have one in stock. As I do have a spare one atm I am seriously considering exploring the possibility of getting some machined here in the UK. Might set-up a FaceBook page for UK YT owners to discuss, issues and how they got them resolved and also possibly sell some UK made spares such as mech hangers.

dlr, I don’t think the 650b Wicked Pro is far away given the various pics with Crossmax 650b wheels and then this one with BOS forks

Unfortunately i don’t have anything to weigh it with other than the bathroom scales dlr – can give it a bash though as an indication!?!

I just bought a Wicked 650b. Not really said anything on here as i’ve not actually had the chance to ride it yet!

I’ve had no problems with the buying process.

My biggest concern was the sizing. I used their online size calculator and it has proved to be very accurate. Having read the bike is long in the top tube I played with the variables to see at which points it recommended a Medium instead of Large as I didn’t want it to be too big. I needn’t have worried, you just need to trust the size calculator.

Ordering was simple and I received a confirmation with payment details shortly after pressing the BUY button. I decided to bank transfer as the PayPal fees are silly if you want to use a credit card. I also used a third party currency company called HiFx to do the transfer as it saved me about £100 in fees and poor exchange rates over Lloyds. (Email me, address in profile, if you decide to use HiFx, we can both benefit if I refer anyone!)

Communication was good telling me when the payment had been received and when the bike was shipped. I got a DHL tracking code and then a Tracking code for local shipping company once it was in UK.

End to end the process took less than 2 weeks but the bike was in stock. I ordered a spare mech hanger with the bike (shipping on this part is 20 Euro if ordered separate to bike) and i was a bit pi$$ed when it was not in the box with the bike. Emailed them and they told me it was not in stock when they dispatched the bike but they were sending it separate. This is fine (and it did arrive shortly after the bike) but it would have been nice to know!

As for the bike….pictures on the YT site don’t do it justice. I’ve got some bike snob pals that thought I was making a mistake – now they think I have stumbled across a bargain and can’t wait to get a shot.

I’ve replaced quite a few components more out of personal preference than poor quality – i’d have happily ridden the bike as it was out the box.

    Saint M820 brakes
    Saint M820 1×10 shifter
e13 XCX direct mount top chain guide
    e13 34 tooth narrow/wide chainring
    Renthal fatbars with ODI grips

Original bits are for sale in my classifieds ad here 😉

I’ve heard and read all the horror stories people are having regards warranty claims etc. (great owners thread over on pinkbike). I say this touching wood (and cloth 😆 ) that most folk are suffering problems with BOS suspension and it’s an absolute $hite to get fixed in the UK so bikes are having to be sent back to Germany for YT to then send to France for fixing……. Also some complaints about e13 cranks coming loose although I think that is common with them and it sorts itself after a few rides with correct torques! I think it’s much safer (hopefully) to go with RockShox, part of the reason why i went with the bike i did.

I’ll feedback on how it rides next week as i’m at FoD, Afan, Cwncarn and Bike Park Wales over the long weekend!

Overall I do feel that buying this bike was a double roll of the dice in terms of 650b and size – I think the gamble has paid off but never say never!!

Oh, and if you ever needed proof that a 650b Wicked Pro would be amazing looking……

Having sold my Trek Session 88 and now having just a Trek Fuel I am looking to sell the Fuel to buy a ‘do it all’ bike for very similar duties and a similar budget.

This is where I’m most tempted to put my money (Warning: YT Industries content!)

Also considering the Nukeproof Mega AM

Just sorted out my folks with a new AV receiver and got the shortlist down the the same as yours. I choose the Yamaha673. Purchased it from Richer Sounds and got, imho, a good deal.

Opened this link in the shop and asked for a deal to match it. Got a pair of homeplugs (£45) and a decent hdmi thrown in for the £449 asking price.

I was amazed at the difference it made over the Harmon Kardon amp that it replaced. A lot of set-up and customisation required. Might be work having a look over on AVForums at the owners thread to really get the best out the receiver.

    Happy shopping!!

I’m not superstar bashing here (can’t fault their kevlar brake pads and use many of their bits on my bikes) but there’s something just not quite right with their floating rotors.

I had the exact same issue when I put a 180/160 floating combo on my trek fuel with xt m775 brakes. There just didnt seem to be 100% power and that was with them fully bled and both pads and disks cleaned with IPA.

I persevered with the disks when I replaced brakes with m785s shortly after – again, just didn’t feel right and I wasn’t getting anywhere the braking performance people were raving about on here.

Finally gave in and bought the non-ice tech shimano floaters (RT76 i think) a few months ago – absolute night and day the difference is massive!

Sorry to say that in this case you need to offload the disks and buy something better.

I did have an AC Components V-Brake booster at home. Not sure if it’s still in my box of random bits or whether I threw it out. Seem to remember it was pretty light. If I still have it you can have it in exchange for a donation to stw.

I am due an upgrade now and want an iPhone4 but am holding off just now as there are a lot of rumours circulating that a 'revised' version which cures the antenna problem is due at the end of September. Could be pure speculation as the iPhone free case program ends on the same day. There are pics over on avforums.com of the new antennas though.

I am holding off just for now

6'2" and riding an 18.5". Preferring my bikes to go downhill as opposed to up I had the standard stem swapped for a 50mm 0deg bontrager (as on my session88) at the shop. Also have a set of 710mm 1.5" rise bars on there too. The 50mm stem was great for downhill but, obviously, dreadful for uphill. Went to other extreme and put 90mm 10deg rise on and that was great for uphill but fely vague when going down! Have now settled for a 70mm 0deg Thomson stem with a 5mm spacer under it. Feels great!!

Al is an absolute legend! I told him I wanted a set of super strong DH wheels last spring (I made the mistake of asking for black spokes – to which I was politely told to go somewhere else if I wanted them!!) and he built me a set of pro2s on 729s with some mental tandem spokes. I genuinely could not believe what I paid in the end for them – I felt like I was robbing the guy! He told me to do my best to bend or break them and that if i could he would build me some more for free!

I have ridden the wheels very hard over the past 18 months with a week in the Alps at Morzine & Les Gets, probably 20 runs at ft. bill, countless days at innerleithen +++++ and the wheels are still as straight and true as the day I collected them!

Not oly did I get to sample the treacle like coffee but I was also offered spaghetti on toast as it was 'tea time'!!! Legend!!!

i had an Astra 888 which had the 1.9cdti engine. had many occurances of the problem you have described and, as many other have said, it was egr valve each time….apart from the last time I had the problem which turned out to be the inlet manifold…..this was last straw so sold it!

Might be worth having a look on Astra Owners Network Forum to see if there is anyone around you with tech2 system that can plug the car in and confirm that it is egr valve.

    Hope you get it sorted!

I work at Grangemouth and my fiance works in Alloa. We were renting in Larbert for 6 months and we actually just bought a flat there. There's not that much to do really at the minute (only a couple of places to drink but does have great chinese and indian restaurant/takeaway) but there is a masterplan for the overall area which will see it develop more over coming years, hence why we bought there as an attempt to make a couple of quid too when we sell.

Good access to A876/M9/M8, 15 mins to carron valley and plenty of natural riding about too. Train station with easy quick access to glasgoe/edinburgh and stirling.

    Am happy enough there

Mavic 729 on Pro2. I've given mine a severe DH/freeride punishing at places including innerleithen and ft. william and they are still straight and true! Cannot reccomend them enough and, if you are anywhere near Glasgow the guy @ Wheelcraft I used to build my wheels did an amazing job – it's not only is it about geting the right rim/hub combo but more important is the quality of the build.

Apologies. I'm sure your pitch would be fine – if it survived MegaV then i'm sure it'll land a few jumps!! Whats the worst that can happen!?! Go for it!!

Grumm, no offence caused by your comment – i'm one of those people that rides a bike wherever they want, however they want and doesn't give a **** what other people say or think! I'm in it for me – there's far too many tarts that aren't!!

2nd pic is Ft. William the day after the world cup downhill this year!

Tbh I think the pitch is not a bad ride. See plenty of them up here at trial centres but tbh, if you are only going to ride trial centre type stuff (i.e. groomed) i'd say the pitch is overkill. If you are wanting to get into bigger stuff and want a freeride type bike i'd seriously look at a 2009 specialized big hit. Seem great value for money.
