Graham you must have smashed the rest of the course then i rode the big hill every lap! training on hills helps, so does being 71kg 😉 thats a hell of alot of calories as well i did 3000 according to garmin!

@KINGTUT hope you recover quick, I was the chap on the Niner 😉 and well done to Graham I didn’t realise how close you was to catching me! the course was fun but overtaking was a struggle, i didn’t like to stray to far off the course edge because of the hidden boulders under the leafs! but most people were very kind at letting people through

that 29er looks lovely, i hope the carbon fibre version isn’t to far off as for the money it’ll be hard to beat!

if you’re going from a nice reliable Joystick to a cheapy chinese light i think you may be disappointed, yes they are very bright but they have much shorter burn times, much wider beam patterns producing less focused beam, the go from very bright to no battery very quickly plus they won’t fit on your mount unless you machine the body. I saved up and bought a Exposure Diablo much less to worry about an a much better light. Saying all that if you don’t race 24hrs etc or night ride very often they’re quite good 😉

just got a swift as a winter bike, wicked so far, not as racey as my Niner mainly because i cant run a negtive stem, but i like that in a winter bike. Eccentric bb looks like it will cope with muddy riding well

I found on my first 12hr solo my arms and shoulders suffered, but that mainly came from a lack of long hours in the saddle, just make sure you get out for some 5+hr rides to see what pains you might get and to try and fix it before the big day, also chamois cream is a must, helps prevent serious soreness

All of Rob Dean’s advice on bikemagic and here is really good, he’s the man in the know =)

I’ll be there trying to set a respectable lap time on a singlespeed, should be a cracking coure and atmosphere, someone needs to stop Ian L making everyone look like they’re not even moving!

Ergon grips are good,i use them but i still get some troubles, but only with one hand but then I ride rigid forks, but as graham says just keep moving hand position, and try avoiding gripping too hard!

I use a Exposure six pack and diablo with a triple cell pack, weight is unnoticeable on the move, each to throw on in the pit, battery indicator is very usefull and they seem to have dropped in price if you look in the right places

i’ve had 2 x pace bb’s, killed the first one with a winter of ss riding and over tightening the pre load cap, the second one is going much better, 2 x 12hr races and many hours of training on my ss & still lovely and smooth, just needs to be regularly greasing with the tool jobby and careful settup
