Zule-Eleven If you are between 16 and 24, have a side-parting, lips fixed in a permanent semi-sneer and a braying laugh then you should join the Young Conservatives. Activities include throwing bread rolls around restaurants; pipe-smoking (traditionally tobacco but usually cannabis for the modern young conservative); homosexual bum rape by Oxbridge dons; getting drunk on Pimms and beating up a tramp; and snorting cocaine from the ample breasts of a millionaire’s daughter. If you are invited to a fancy dress party, please feel free to dress up as the high-profile child murder victim of your choice, only be sure to remember that Big Dave will have to give your naughty botty a good spanking.

Shag my missus, shoot someone in the face on call of duty, go for a ride or watch Family Guy/American Dad/Mash. Maybe do all of them and then finish the day with a nice tasty Corona.

If the driver was by himself you should have just dragged him out the car and kicked the **** into him in a nice quiet field. But I guess you could possibly get in trouble for that.

Just to clear up the use of the term “ape”. It’s not very scientific and Biolgists used to use it as a term to differentiate between hominids and the other primates. So our friend did not make a “biology” fail.

Buy a Mega. There was a guy on here I believe, running it with 150mm forks just fine.

740mm and 12 degrees of back sweep yeah :D

Come to think of it, the silly sweep has helped my riding more than moving to wide bars did. I feel more comfortable stoop up and I feel as if I can grip better.

Posts that turn into [anti-]religious drivel that go on endlessly

Religious people and God if he exists.

Come to think of it, I hate a lot of people as well. So the entire universe potentially boils my piss. I think that’s why I got into science….. because I’m deeply offended by how the universe was designed and the fact the game was weighted against organisms with consciousness.

Blargh roll on the day when ambulances are told to replace your blood with cold saline to buy time for a hospital team.

When I’m studying I’m constantly reminded that whilst medically we’ve got to the point that someone has been cured of aids (albeit via a very risky blunt force method…bone marrow transplant from a resistant donor)…and we are now starting to see anticancer drugs that take a much better and more subtle molecular path in killing cancer cell……you’re still probably **** if you get a good old simple heart attack and there’s very little medical science can do about it…. :(

Still science progresses…. :| ….bring on routine bionic replacement of organs when your getting a bit old and worn and clothes that warn you of an impending heart attack! I’m looking forward to living in a transhuman world.

I’d like to see cheaper automatic defib machines as well so at risk age ranges and bushinesses etc purchase them.

    Why?
At that level they will be much of a muchness, make a decision, do you need/want specific features like the moving backscreen?
Mpixels don’t really mean shit outside the marketing dept at this level either.
So unless one of the choice has an outstanding feature you want, I’d say they’re more or less the same.

Personal bias but I prefer the pictures Nikons produce.

Anyway, why not a mirrorless EVF camera? What does the OP want to photograph? I bloody love the portability of my girlfriends Lumix G3 and my GX1.

did I say Nikon? Better colours and dynamic range.

Having said that I now use mirrorless micro four thirds cameras such as the Lumix G3 or GX1. Why? Because they are a shit load more portable for cycling. You can carry more lenses at about half the weight.

The G3’s sensor takes as nice photos as the 550D in a package that is much smaller.

I used to have an old red and silver marin shoreline trail that was like that when I was 13.

Worst **** bike I’ve ever owned. The first time I had a go on a better bike it was a Santa Cruz Chameleon (bought just before I’d gone out to the alps) on the Plenny Run in Morzine. It’s saying something that a stupidly stiff hardtail was more comfortable to ride in braking bump/arm pump land than the Marin was in Coed Y Brenin.

Just be patient, perhaps have a swing over and a try out of an SC Butcher, Nukeproof Mega, an Orange 5 or an Enduro if you get really inpatient.

The Euro’s rave about the Canyon. Google is your friend here.

Fair enough then man, if you like the way it rides there’s no need to ask other peoples thoughts. Whatever works for you should be the bike you run. The only time you should be worried is if there’s been a recall or significant reliability issues. Which there kind of was with my Mega but the potentially badly designed chainstay was replaced with the new design for free.

IMO the Canyon looks like a nice bike. Even having a bike that you like the look of and enjoy owning will make you enjoy your investment more, buying something your unhappy with even visually can lead to buyers remorse. As long as it’s reasonable buy with your heart, my head said get an Orange 5 but I’m glad I went with my Mega. I’d have never been happy with a five.

Hope you get the bike on time, it’ll be just in time for the summer :D

Eh Nukeproof Mega’s are going be available with a similar spec build for less money in about a month. I’d go mad waiting till May if I had the 3,229 Euro’s for the 9.0 ES. Why’d you order it without researching first? Are you sure the geometry is what you want?

Because 10mm of travel makes much difference and for the record it’s actually 152mm.

Euro, personal opinion I guess but once I’m using a bike with more than 160mm of travel I prefer the stifness of an integrated stem. Something that you can’t run on a single crown 180mm DH light bike.

Actually JackTheDog more women are getting higher levels of education than men now.

“Jayne Dallas, a senior studying advertising who was seated across the table, grumbled that the population of male undergraduates was even smaller when you looked at it as a dating pool. “Out of that 40 percent, there are maybe 20 percent that we would consider, and out of those 20, 10 have girlfriends, so all the girls are fighting over that other 10 percent,” she said.” – http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/07/fashion/07campus.html?pagewanted=all

note “reduced risk”. As that website states, you should still see a doc. Your life though, a doctors visit is not that much time out of your day compared to a few weeks in ITU.

I had a round circular reddish/brown rash on the inside of my thigh when I was a teenager, with nasty flu symptoms (sweating, nausea and flu). Never went to the docs, later on at university I found out how hilariously wrong that could have gone for me. Any medics who got those symptoms would shit bricks.

Jesus **** christ.. I can’t diagnose as my training is in Biomedicine…but see a doctor. Tetanus incubation is usually around a week but can be months. It is not a nice disease! From memory it has a pretty high mortality rate as well.

It’s the Reverb post, Hope Tech M4s and 2.35 high rollers that are adding the weight…. I won’t add a Reverb until I’ve dropped enough weight to make up for it. It’ll add 3/4 of a pound to the bike. It’s like getting fat….once you’ve put a bit of weight on then you suddenly start putting on more…more easily and it’s all downhill from there! :D

I find I prefer faster rolling tyres than the High Rollers on anything but full on DH courses. When I’m on those, I will just swap my tyres out…but High Rollers are not my everyday ride. That is where most of the weight is saved I reckon. If the trails aren’t steep enough or fast enough that I’m riding on edge of the of my grip on Rubber Queens then I won’t swap to bigger tyres. I find they dig into soft terrain and give me as much grip as I need on “mini-dh” courses/trails. :)

I really find that anything that weighs more than what I’ve got now spoils my fun on long rides to find natural trails and that’s why I think this whole idea of “mini-dh” bikes are a bit of a gimmick in the UK. If you have to lug it around you might as well get a DH sled.

As you say though, it’s all opinion and personal preference.

“Plus the advent of the new Red Trail at Wakerley Woods has improved the riding in the area no end.” HAHAHAHAAH…..I’m from near there….it’s shit…I’m going to have to move to Sheffield or Wales as I seriously can’t handle it anymore. Have to drive everywhere…that’ll be one to tell me missus….”We’re moving up north!”….”Why?”…..”Cuz the mountain bikings shit round here duhhh”.

Well,, either you weigh 200lbs, do BIG hucks or ride like a tool.

    Heres my build list

    Nukeproof Mega – Medium
    Rock Shox Lyrik u-turn
    Stans Flow Wheels
    FSA 250 steapost
    Random Selle Italia 200g seat
    Syntace Vector Carbon 740mm
    SLX groupset
    Formula K18 brakes
    Conti 2.2 Rubber Queens UST
    Thompson 1.5 50mm stem

Avg weight on three different scales – 32.4 lb

Your Nomad weighs almost as much as my 180mm travel SX trail did with burly as **** wheels on it and 2.5 Highrollers. My mates 200mm Scalp weighs 37lb. Such a heavy build defeats the point of having a enduro bike, might as well get a DH bike if your lugging 35lb round with I’m assuming massively wide high rollers or minions.

If I spent $$$ on my Mega it would be down to 29lb. I didn’t….I bought used and components that were on sale and still managed to get a reasonable weight. Having said that I built the wheels myself so I know they were built well and they get lovingly looked after so I might not trash wheels on a regular basis like some.

If you can afford to run two bikes why not just run a hardtail and a full DH bike if the Nomads running that kind of weight.

My family of shotgun wielding, spaniel and hound owning, fox killing toffs would agree with TJ. Any dog that bit them whilst on a shoot would most likely be gargling on buckshot.

As long as youre not getting medical tachycardia, where in this is your heart rate for periods of time whilst resting (eg sleeping) then no. Your just a bit unfit :P

Ease up on the mince pies and do some more rides. Maybe if youre getting to that age have your doctor give you the once over to check for heart disease risk factors. Seriously though a resting heart rate of 63 is fine and 173 sounds normal for strenuous exercise.

I had an SX Trail with a 180mm Rock Shox Totem, dont go near mini-dh bikes and if you do… do not build it anymore than 34lbs, preferably at least 32lb. This is the reason, they have all of the negatives associated with a 200mm downhill bike with sod all of the positives associated with a lighter bike. On top of that a proper race bike is loads more stable in the gnarl. My SX Trail was 37lb and I hated every last minute of riding that bike, it was a nice idea on paper but it was gay on DH runs and gay on singletrack

Get an all-mountain/enduro frame and downhillerize it or buy a full on dh race bike.

Eg get a Nukeproof Mega/SC Nomad. Put some 170mm forks on the front of it with low stack height cane creek angleset and get the headangle down to 65 degrees, put some wide low rise bars on it, some light but strong wheels and some 2.35 grippy tyres of your choice and you will have a ripper of a 30-32lb bike that you can easily pedal on epic rides to find natural/hidden downhill that you can then come back and section on a big bike.

Look for a long, slack 160mm frame like the Mega (for me the Nomad would definitely need an angleset) that is reasonably light eg 6.5-7.5lbs.

DH “light” bikes are for Canucks who have a lot of money and like hucking off big drops on chair assisted swoopy whistler trails.
